Ten hours on my save file, the Nintendo Channel has it at eight and change (?). Other than the first game's jacket (to better view my T-Shirt) and then Neon green skull and crossbone shirt I didn't buy anything either. Really missed a lot of the first game's clothing options. They seemed to have more...something, at any rare.

Finished it. Pretty disappointed in it after all. Spoilerish things follow.
The boss characters were the best thing about NMH, and that was not carried over into NMH2. And nothing else was really improved to make up for it or otherwise give NMH2 its own personality.
It's nice that I didn't have to grind money to get into ranked fights, so after buying the two katanas and training up a bit, money became useless, and I stopped playing the minigames. It's great that the minigames were improved, but they were underutilized.
The combat was pretty much identical to NMH. At least the boss finisher QTEs were nifty.
The riffs on other games were tenuous at best, but mostly just poorly done and pointless.
And the commentary on commercialization and corporate ownership of America is tired and really not worth looking into.
Just finished the last boss today, and I'm comfortable saying saying that I liked NMH2 much more than the original. I agree that the bosses had less personality on the whole, but the main narrative and main characters were much better realized this time around and I thought that was more than enough of a counterbalance.
But I was never one of the nutjobs who were convinced that the old Santa Destroy overworld was some kind of commentary on the banality of modern gaming, so if you are one of those people - nutjobs, I mean - I guess I could understand not enjoying all of the streamlining that went into NMH2.
Edit: I never invested much into NMH's clothing, but I did find NMH2's selection kind of limited. Didn't really factor in my fun though.
Edit2: fuck the knockdown recovery in this game. I took so much goddamned boss damage just trying to stand up.
It's the kick spin thing that boned me so hard. It's the fastest way to get up, but you can get hit while you're doing it. So, since bosses are generally not going to be interrupted by it, you're just opening yourself up to another knockdown. My main complaint is that, in a boss battle, the camera will break its lock so you can't predict the impending facefuck.
There is a way to pull off a soft landing when you're knocked back - I think by shaking the wiimote? - but I'm not sure if that's possible against bosses. If I play through again on bitter I suppose I'll have to learn these things.

I want there to be a metal band called Impending Facefuck now.
Don't force yourself up. When knocked down against a boss, try and wait out his next attack so that you're not getting up into it. It's still guesswork, but it's educated guesswork.
I agree with Renzo's spoiled list... but I also would say I enjoyed playing NMH2 more than I did the first game. I feel the same about L4D1 and 2, MGS1 and the rest of the series, Silent Hill 1 et all. I missed even the simple title card for the assassin I was gunning for even while loving everything else.

Carved may way up to rank #2 last night without too much difficulty.
Is it sad that I was more excited about clearing the last Muscle Training than I was about beating most of those bosses?
Step and Slice is beyond ridiculous with Rose Nasty. I just turn mooks into a fine mist. The fight in front of the supermarket (Rank 3?) when you have to plow through a seemingly endless see of mooks was a cakewalk. It helps that when you activate Embrace Your Force you automatically fully recharge your battery... I've been switching weapons to avoid too much recharge as well.
I'll try it again tomorrow. I'm having a really hard time managing the camera so i can see him will trying to get my bike up to ramming speed on this little disc.
It's completely random, but try to boost into him right at the start to knock him off. You're pretty much screwed if you don't get him within 5 seconds because the controls and camera are horrible. You're never going to knock him off, you're just going to play keep away until he either knocks you off or he flings himself off the edge by accident or because you lured him into it.
I can't replicate it, but I know I've birdie-stunned Ryujin on the bike. Figuring out how to do it reliably is probably the key to winning the duel.
Clearing the rest on Bitter, though, is another story. You get one bloody opportunity to DSD in any given combo, it seems; everything after the first attack guard-crushes me. Ugggh.

Sorry. Proper term: "dizzied". Paralyzed, unable to defend himself, with stars circling his head as little birdie sounds play. The same condition that would normally let you do a wrestling move on the enemy. So I have definitely dizzied Ryujin while he's on his bike; I just don't know how. (Possibly, you have to hit him from the side or behind. I'd have to test-- and will have the opportunity next time I boot the game. Damn Bitter mode...)

Odd. I'm at #1 and haven't played in like 2 weeks. Granted, I've been busy, and perfecting the Viewtiful Joe air combos in CvsT is an end in and of itself...Odd, because I really, really like the fighting in Desperate Struggle...but the sequel's taught me something about my play preferences.
I like spending time AS the character in the world. Being, in the absence of enforced purpose.
This isn't a loveletter to the old overworld exactly, but being Travis without being somewhere along an action-item list meant more. NMH is always about the ranking fights, but you could really slum it up as much as you wanted in the first game. It, kind of, makes sense in the second game that that's not going on. Travis is driven in this story, understandably. Maybe a reasoning held that he wouldn't be wandering around chasing Lovikov Balls and dumpster diving with a blood oath to a fallen friend burning in the corners of his vision...
Really want to get it done and get into the deathmatch mode.
Just like in the first No More Heroes, there's a trick to most of the bosses that turns them into a cakewalk.
Pyro guy:
Step one: with Peony (preferred) or whatever other swords you have, open up the arena. You absolutely cannot effectively engage him in as tight quarters as the environment forces on you. Nearly everything in the room is breakable; run away from him and smash everything you can see.
Once that's done, you'll be much less vulnerable to his various projectiles. Hover around mid-range and use the emergency dodge if he ever jumps at you. If he starts charging you (told by a louder shoe-thumping sound), back up against a wall and let him do the running swing. Don't forget to roll away, naturally. If he misses you, his axe will embed in the wall. This is your chance for free damage! He seems to go dizzy a lot when you hit him in that state, so watch for the opportunity to throw him.
Besides that, don't over-commit to any single counterattack, and you should be fine.

I found that simply not finishing my combos was key to staying alive during bosses. weapon depending, every combo has a "point of no return" swing that will stop you from dodging for a second or so. Invariably, this will be when the boss initiates his or her most crushing combo.
You can prolong your combos by switching stances after a few swings, so get your 3-5 quick hits in and then dodge the fuck out of there.

Well
I suppose, you know, what with the non-bloody version most places get...someone could be (adjective of your choice) enough to get away with that price justified in the mind of a buyer, outside of the US.
But in NA is it really that hard to get a copy of NMH1? My blockbuster has used copies, my gamestop has a copy or two, I know my Best Buy has it in original and Red Steel bundle, easy... I mean we're talking about a game that was an underground hit, and a significant success story for the Wii. It's not like it's Doshin the Giant or anything.
Unless Ubisoft somehow repurchased the unused stock for the Red Steel bundling gimmick and there just aren't pristine standalone units most places, but I find that hard to believe.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid. My want of the first game is one of the reasons I now own a wii, and not finding it on the futureshop or best buy or ebgames or gamestop websites have made me a bit nervous.

This is what I did. A couple swings and then a dodge. Ended up getting most of my damage done in exctacy mode.
Everyone after the pyro guy has been a cakewalk though. I just got enough money for peony right when I was given big rose, so the next fight should be pretty fun playing with my new toys.
I've noticed that, for the most part, the combo system gives you as many swings as you give it button presses. If you quickly tap A three times, you're going to swing three times. It punishes button-mashing, so keep your thumb under control.

I don't understand why people have trouble with the pyro. He was a cakewalk for me and I didn't even know you could break stuff, I just did a few hits then ran away. He almost never actually attacked me at all, just stood there. Wish I could tell you what I did, exactly.

Ah, you see we used everything but the shades for that very reason...also we didn't have enough to afford them!
Yeah, I am kidding.

Because I seem to be really underpowered when compared to the creepy pyro. And of course I didnt stagger my saves.
No exit, my friend.
If I can't find a copy of No More Heroes 1 I will cry.
And with a little patience I beat that guy. Also ripped the next boss a new one
