Like the Sith, the original species died out but their followers who carry on their traits/ideals etc. still carry their name.
Would still be a good "race" choice though.
i disagree
i think it is more appropriate if they are a faction, and anyone with the right skills can join (they are warriors of all different races, although KotOR presents them as almost entirely human)
Well, then again, you only meet two Mandalorians without helmets on.
I think the whole "any non-humanoid race can be adopted as a mandalorian" went out of style a while back, even before the Old Republic era.
Family is one of the central tennants of their culture and if you bring someone in who can't interbreed with other Mandos, it disrupts that.

i do not think there is anything to support that claim, especially considering that the original mandalorians aren't human.
Admittedly, though, the majority of current (as of SWtOR) Mandalorians are human. But really, any race conquered by the Mandalorians can be press-ganged into becoming a Mandalorian crusader/warrior/whatever.

about the group stuff: They're prolly going to make Tank/DpS/Healer trees to combat multiple MoBz and situations. Partying up with different players who specialize will make group combat fun. I played KOTOR as a light side healer/absorber and rocked with the many +'s to physical combat and light saber construction bonuses.
*Also grenades. Grenades, grenades, grenades.
Can I force choke people? Like, other players? If so: bought.

Hmm.
On one hand the toe to toe smack smack smack looks really good.
On the other hand, it's the same old toe to toe as any other mmo, which is really disappointing. But I don't think I could have expected more from bioware their forte is always story not gameplay.
Someone somewhere is going to view that as an attack on them without realising I'm acknowledging their strengths and that not everybody has to do everything, so I sure hope that person reads this last line.

I think I figured out how Bioware is going to tackle storytelling in this game.
I won't recap all of it in this thread, but you can read the blogpost here, if you are interested.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to this game. To say the least.

The idea might not be how it plays out.
But the idea does interest me.
I could see players criss crossing each other on opposing quests. Each attacking the same, say, location, for a specific reason, and needing a different thing from it or having a different reaction to the npcs.

Every single novel in the extended universe I've read or video game I've played has mandalorians as humans or human enough to enable interspecies kids.
Yeah, I know they can take non-humans for adoption, but it seems rare in the timelines; either EU or KoTOR

And we always see the Sith as multispecies, too; doesn't change the fact that the Sith originated with a specific alien species, either.

I love the art style. The thing that really really turned me off both Age of Conan and WAR was how muted and tempered they looked, especially compared to WoW. This looks more like the latter, which is good in my opinion. I really like how the planets are sort of self contained, more plot driven than the zones in other MMOs.
Every bit of media they release for Old Republic I become more and more onboard to the whole idea. I'm still not sold, but I'm being given a good pitch.

I'm really interested in hearing about the mechanics of the game, and specifically how grouping / instancing / zoning will work.
Me too, specifically the classes. Bioware impressed me with their worldbuidling in KOTOR, so I have a lot of confidence in them regarding that. What I'm skeptical about are what they're going to do to encourage people to play something other than a Jedi.

Given the contents of that video, I'm not sure they'll be doing much at all.
Yeah, that felt very much like an "everyone's a jedi" game.

That's a shame. As much as I have a hardon for laser-sword-swinging-magical-space-samurai, I would've been one of those guys who said "y'know, everyone is playing a Jedi. I'm gonna do something else first." I think there's probably a significant percentage of the fanbase who feel the same way.
Lack of class diversity makes me automatically less interested in the game. Oh well, I'm sure I'll still keep an eye on things.

I can sympathize, but in the end I feel they did the right thing. You either take the wide-angle approach and ensure diversity in your players by making Jedi hidden in the background, non-playable - like they basically are for most people in the setting - or you tighten the focus, and make the game entirely about Jedi. If you try to go between those two poles, you're screwed.
Ultimately one of this project's stated main goals is to introduce proper narrative, plot, and branching dialogue into MMOs, and focusing on the Jedi likely gives them a much richer story to play with.
There could maybe be some sort of endgame storyline where you go all katarn style and stop being a jedi, but even that might make future plots too tough to write.

I can see that. Like I said, lack of class diversity makes me less interested, but it doesn't dissolve my interest entirely.
If anything, I think it will make Bioware's job harder, as they're going to have to balance limited archetype choice against diversity. If every PC is some brand of Jedi, they need to make sure that every player can say "Yeah, but it's my Jedi."
Based on the good 'ol KoToR games, there wont just be a 'jedi/sith' class... well, maybe when you're a fresh newbie and just starting. But you diverge into other areas, perhaps you are more focused upon your lightsaber combat, or the use of the force, and of course since you gotta have it, using the force to heal.

Guys, it's a video on the Jedi Home planet; Jedi newbie starting area. Of course it's not going to have a lot of info on non-jedi classes.
Sorta like tha Sith starting area vid won't have a lot of info on the Jedi classes :P

- was all down with the lightsabers too, though. 'Course, we still know basically squat about it, so it's entirely possible they're just playing to the crowd, but so far it's been ticking the "hey you can be Jedi or Sith pretty cool right?" boxes quite enthusiastically.
But again - who knows, maybe that's absolutely what the next video will be about.
On another note, I am still absolutely loving the slightly cartoony style.
Done well, this is the first mmo to come along that I could definitely see tearing me away from WoW. Love the art style, definitely trust Bioware in the "atmosphere" department, it's the actual mechanics and customization options I'm interested in learning more about.
i'd take assassin droid with high powered sniper rifle over sith/ jedi anyday. popping jedi PC's in the head from well out of TK range is pretty much a game in itself...

As an aside, I just want to say briefly that I used to hate KOTOR2. I played it twice, once as light and once as dark, and both times I thought the editing and nonsensical ending made the whole thing a wash.
Recently I started reading the KOTOR2 Let's Play, and oh my goodness I missed so much shit with the NPCs. It's completely changed my opinion of the game. I've stopped reading the LP, and I'm going back to play it again to see what I can dig up myself. The game is clearly a lot better than I thought.
I know this is Bioware and the SW MMO thread, but I had to repent my sinful ways somewhere.
I'm really digging the art style. I hope the animations turn out really good too (we've only seen some of them so far).
When WoW first came out, I played it a ton until the burning crusade came out, then I lost interest quickly a few months after that. Resubbed for WotLK but again lost interest after a few months. Over that time I've tried many MMOs but none have grabbed me the way WoW vanilla did when it first came out and I got either bored quickly, or was very disappointed by what I expected and what I got (WAR for example). Hopefully this is the game that pulls me back in.

Yeah, WIP clearly stands for "will inever pchange"
Also, if this mmo has 'micro transactions' in addition to a subs charge then it is anti-bought, with extreme prejudice.
