There was nothing remotely Sithish about Jolee. He was a good dude that thought the Jedi Council was stupid.
So, is the Sith Empire in this supposed to be the real Sith Empire that Revan discovered in the Unknown Regions, or the incompetent poseurs that periodically hang out on Korriban?
apparently the incompetent poseurs? Korriban is in the game.

Yeah, that's what I figured, but I recall the second game mentioning that Korriban was right on the edge of the space occupied by the real Sith Empire, so I was hoping they reclaimed it.
Nope. Kreia said Korriban was always important because it was on the border of the True Sith Empire, not because the posers decided to call it their world or whatever. The Sith Empire in this game are the True Sith Revan was worried about. They finally decided they were without a doubt ready to topple the Republic, but they misjudged it a bit which lead to the stalemate.
Anyway, I'm not sure if I can quantify it exactly, but I really get the feeling they're brushing KOTOR 2 under the rug. The timeline has nothing in reference to any of the events that take place during the game, and there's not really any mention of anything from it (that I've seen) except for the whole True Sith thing. I might be blowing it out of proportion, I suppose. It just seemed especially odd that they refer to a Sith Triumverate attacking the Republic and nearly wiping out the Jedi Order, along with tons of unrest on Onderon, as "200 years of peace".
I was reading the dev journal today and noticed the mention that every faction will have its own line of quests. This means when picking a toon, you will have a chance to reroll and have a completely different experience, there will be no cross faction quests.
This is a good thing IMHO, this means no faction grinding.
I am hoping PVP is truly PVP as well. I really like the bounty hunters jet pack, it's boss!
In fairness in KOTOR2 there's hardly any sign that the republic even realizes something bad is going on. They lose a ship under mysterious circumstances at the very beginning, your character blows up the asteroid mine, and there's unrest on onderon. It isn't really presented as a struggle the republic is all that cognizant of.
Eat it You Nasty Pig. on
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Actually, I think it was more presented as the Republic vaguely aware of what was going on, but turned their heads and pretend nothing was happening. The conflict was meant to be kind of low-key, since the only Republic troops that really saw any fighting were those in Carth's fleet who came to the defense of Telos.

Well, there's the annihilation of Katarr or whatever it is, and the extermination of the Jedi, the destruction of Peragus and the Sith attack on Telos.
But for the most part they spend a lot of effort talking about "shadows" and "whispers."

I think we can assume the Exile's New Jedi successfully restarted the Order. Other than that there's not really anything for them to refer to.
WoW lingo is everywhere. I've been on WAR and I've seen someone refer to Order as 'Alliance' in a warband. Also, people asking "where r teh gryffon[sic] stations??".
I wonder what new and exciting lingo will pop up from TOR?
If you haven't played many MMOs (well, aside from WoW), get used to it. I loathe the term more than "carebear," and it's never going away.
Oh, I've been playing MMOs since UO. And yeah, I despise the term with the hate of a million suns.
At least carebear I actually get (perjorative opposite to "hardcore"). I don't understand how "toon" came to be. What game even has cartoon images for avatars?
Probably from text-only MUDders moving to graphical MUDs and stuff like EQ. Most of them probably didn't really know what to call them, so they figured "hey, it looks like a cartoon I guess."

toon came about because your character outfitting screen looked like a 'paper cartoon' of a character in many MMOs (think about the old diablo outfitting screen).
I don't know who started it first, but I know that developers were calling your loadout your 'paper cartoon' and internet rules state we must butcher everything to a one syllable mispelling, so 'toon' was born.

You are confusing that with 'paper doll'

I do remember the paper doll screen, and its the same screen, I swear I remember reading a dev call it the paper cartoon screen, could it have been on the AO forums like 5 years ago?
I tried to find evidence online to backup my assertion that this started with 'paper cartoon' I will concede I can find no such evidence and will allow anyone to call bullshit on my prior statement.
As far as MMO slang goes, I usually block Region Chat in WAR, et al. so I don't have to feel like my eyes are bleeding every time they glance at the lower left portion of my screen.

I've gotten a lot better at tolerating general chat in MMO's since I started playing Call of Duty 4 online. That is where grammar and clarity go to die.
As someone who's played online games before there was an online, I have my own ideas on where online terms come from.
"Toon", at least in my opinion, came from WoW. Since most other games were going for a more realistic world, despite the technology's inability to do so at the time, WoW's animated, over the top characters were "cartoony", which led to toon being used.
To this day, running around Durotar reminds me of the desert in the Wily E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoons. Everything from the cliffs and mountains to the very ground itself looks exactly like those old cartoons.
Just my opinion, but before WoW, I never heard anyone refer to their guys in any game as a toon. I really don't think it originated in Toontown Online.
I also have theories on "twink", "pwned", and other terms, but we'll leave those for another time.
Anyway, looking over everything so far on this MMO and I can barely wait. I played the hell out of SWG, I love the SW universe...Yes, I have read nearly every EU book. I'll be the insane Mando'ade blowing the 'ell outta your emo lovy dovy jetii and dar'jetii
I know it was before WoW because the first time I heard it was in anarchy online.
I heard twink in AO as well, I was told by someone they called it that because you got glowies when someone buffed you so you could wear items that required more stats than you currently had.
In AO a person can get buffed so they have the strength etc to wear gear outside their level.
When you got these buffs you sparkled or 'twinkled'. I don't know if that's where it came from but it was the first I'd heard it.
I saw 'toon' used in Ultima Online so it's older than EQ. I have no idea where that term came from, but it sucks. It's almost an insult to your character. I use avatar, it's a way cooler word for character.
I'm really suprised people thought toon originated in WoW.
There were MMOGs made before WoW, fellas.
Yeah but they don't count because they all suck. In fact every MMO that isn't WoW sucks and I can prove it using loaded comparisons of varying degrees of shittiness I came up with while I work thinking about how much I love WoW and can't wait to get home and play it.
Am I fanboying right?
I'm really hoping this game turns out good. I missed out on SWG due to being a Planetside addict so it'd be cool to mess around in a fun Star Wars MMO.

Friends have told me it originated from The Realm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Realm_Online), pretty much the first graphical MMO anyone can remember. And the characters looked very much like a cartoon in style.

And "twinks" in UO were something entirely different. In UO's early days (and UO only, as far as I know, since the term in the non-homosexual context is as old as MUD) it was synonymous with "griefer."

Yeah I first heard of twinking in EQ and figured it was because of sparkles in the spell effects for most buffs. Casting all of my high level shaman buffs on people in the newbie zones was always good times.
These days it seems to be more of a giving ridiculous equipment to low level alts thing.
The term was used in MUDs and in PNP games long before MMOs. I know this because I'm goddamn old. So, get off my lawn and let's discuss Star Wars shit.
Also, Crafting? Keep it simple. The experiment bullshit in SWG was a fuckload of shit and the quality garbage in EQ2 was a cockton of asshole. I hated both of those systems with an unbridled passion.

Some people like just spamming healing. Granted, I'm not one of those people. But, some people get off on it.
The Tank archetype can also be thankless.
Probably why I usually play the guys that blow shit up.
