Also, Crafting? Keep it simple. The experiment bullshit in SWG was a fuckload of shit and the quality garbage in EQ2 was a cockton of asshole. I hated both of those systems with an unbridled passion.
Filthy lie! Shooting shit with turrets can be amusing if the turrets are powerful enough and the targets die spectacularily enough. For example if I can use the main turret on an AT-TE to shoot infantry? Sign me right the hell up.
No to simple crafting. Simple crafting is something you do as a chore before you log off for the night.
How about interesting crafting. Or even fun crafting. I'd even take crafting that is simple on it's surface but can be done in a more complex way for better results. If building a weapon or starship or whatever is a matter of repeating a three click process a few hundred times while chanting praise to the Great and Powerful Lord of the RNG to get the best results you can count me out. I get enough of that in WAR.
I think your character was officially called a toon in The Realm. At least that's what a friend of mine who played the game always called his character. Either way, I do not like it, no sir.
I remember twinks going back as far as UO and MUDs I was playing when UO was new. I expect the word existed before then, but I can't really prove it.
Will the multiple Lightsaber forms be in the game?
For instance, could my character focus on Form V and be badass at blocking blaster bolts back at people?
Or focus on Form III and be a neigh-unhittable tank?
Form I -- Default Lightsaber Combat
Form II -- Good vs. Other Melee Combatants
Form III -- Best Defense
Form IV -- Best DPS
Form V -- Good vs. Blaster Weapons
Form VI -- Advanced Form I upgrade, option for non-combat focused characters
Form VII -- Good vs. Darksiders

Given that Jedi and Sith aren't even officially classes yet, way too early to know dude. The Lightsaber forms will probably get some degree of useage though.
Edit: Man I was reading through Wookiepedia and I don't know how these Star Wars nerds can convince themselves these "forms" were used in the movies. Guys George Lucas does not give a fuck. The choreographer did not give a fuck. They were using "Badass Lightsaber SFX Woosh Woosh" form.

I don't know if they'll bring the whole "lightsaber forms" thing into play in the hardcore sense that Wookiepedia keeps track of the Expanded Universe complicated business, but I think it would be awesome to reflect "style" in some way. Stances could be cool I guess; maybe shift into a noticeable stance that offers buffs to either damage, melee defense or ranged defense, or even a stance that is good against Dark/Light, rather than include all of the "forms" mentioned.
[WoW]
Oh, and count me on the side of those who loathe the whole "toon" terminology. It irks me to no end. To go WoW with it, I never could stand hearing or seeing the terms: toon, twink, shammy or pally. Seriously, just type the class out. Man, that really bugs me. Also, Nelf and Belf. GAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

'Toon' just bugs me because I think I view my characters as I play them as sort of more than a little 'cartoon'. I don't heavy role play or anything in most MMO's, but I do like some semblance of immersion to be there; i.e, I try to at least be somewhat in character to maintain that I'm utilizing the whole role-playing part of the MMORPG, not just an MMOG. I guess I see a role playing adventure to experience in front of me, not just some pixels and code on a screen for me to manipulate in order to make bigger numbers appear when I do things. :P I tend to stick with avatar or character, I guess.
Well in the movies, the prequels at least, most of the 'styles' were either forceful, slow and methodical etc. The fight between Obi-wan and Anakin is a good example of the differences, Mace's form was very forceful as well, which mimics the form of fighting style he actually created.

That's about as detailed as it gets. A scale of aggression and speed. Pretending that the movies adhered to styles thought up by the EU though is delusional, pitiable nonsense.

I think the forms are fine for games but fuck if my eyes don't roll out of my sockets every time they come up in a novel.

Pretty much, considering most of those random Jedi you see are... completely random people who were likely told "Swing this in a cool fashion".
I'm wondering how jedi and sith will be limited. I mean seriously, every fucktard on the planets gonna roll a sith or a jedi, so how are they going to keep bounty hunters, smugglers (yeah I know they aren't officially announced), and troopers interesting enough to stop a mass jedi explosion at launch?
I know we were talking a while back about making a guild of nonforce users, I suspect this guild would be on a pvp server, I also suspect we would create a whirlwind of death and destruction never before seen in an MMO, I just hope people who spoke about it are serious.

Don't lie! Vaapad was invented by Jules Winnfield because he was a bad motherfucker and he walks on the chocolate side of the force. Bitch.
Well its going to be 'us' vs 'them' and I'd like to just beat the shit out of everyone who's carrying a lightsabre, not only does that make the game more interesting, but it's kind of canon in a way. I mean force users were really looked down upon by the rest of the populace, so it makes sense from a roleplaying perspective to have a bunch of griefers shanking the sith/jedi at every possible moment.

In TOR the Sith beat the crap out of the Old Republic. If anything, joe public is going to fear the Sith because they brushed aside the Jedi like they were a joke. The only force users that are going to be looked down upon by the public at large are the Jedi because they lost the farm to the Sith.
That said, I think I get what you're trying to say. If they offer a class that's the equivalent of a Mandalorian badass, I'm jumping on it.
He's right, actually. It does depend on what timeline in the SW universe it is, but at many points most of the galaxy viewed a Jedi as nothing but trouble.
Let's not forget that the general populace doesn't really get the difference between the Sith and the Jedi - to them, they're just two sects of the same religion. Compounded by the fact that many Sith used to be Jedi and vice-versa.
It gets a little complicated now the Sith Empire is actually, you know, an Empire, a force external to the Republic, but I think to an extent the same attitude will remain.
Good point. If my galaxy was being torn apart by warring factions of force users all the damn time, I'd be pretty pissed too, and it wouldn't matter if they were Sith or Jedi, because they're all assholes as far as I'm concerned.
You know, I'm really surprised that there hasn't been a Jedi/Sith pogrom undergone solely by the general non-force using populace of the galaxy.
I suspect the forms will be something like an Aura, and you can change your form around to benefit yourself and your party in different ways whenever you want.
I could almost see Lightsaber Form analogous to Weapon types for Jedi. For the most part a Jedi is always going to be using their lightsaber. They won't switch over to a Double-density vibro-ax because it has better stats, because the majority of their fighting skills should be tied to the Jedi weapon aka Lightsaber.
So instead of choosing to have your character focus on blasters, or heavy weapons, or vibro-blades, you choose your saber form.

I like this. Also, a Jedi's lightsaber is supposed to be theirs forever, become a part of them, so to tie equipment growth to the skill rather than the weapon would be a great way of reflecting that.
One of the quests in the Jedi story arc seems to be building your lightsaber, which seems pointless otherwise.
Somehow the image of a Jedi picking over Sith corpses for a new +3 lightsaber doesn't seem right.
However, I meant a pogrom that wasn't instigated by an outside influence or by the Sith/Jedi. A point were the rest of the galaxy, on it's own volition, went "You know what? Fuck you guys, you're all dead".
The general populace aren't self-starters, that's for damn sure.

Keep the lightsaber, upgrade the focusing lens, crystal, and battery pack.
Taking the Sith's rancor tooth lightsaber might not be in line with your typical Jedi, but unscrewing the end and pulling out a rare Upari crystal would.
This is also an option.
Though at first I read it wrong and was all, wait this rancor is a Sith? With a lightsaber and everything?

Eh, not generally I don't think. It probably only happened in KotoR 2 because you'd already given up "your" saber and everyone else was getting the crash course and didn't have time for fancy saber craftmanship.
If they do Jedi and Sith right I think there will be an initial surge of them that will taper off when people find out it doesn't match their playing style.
That is a big reason I think "weapon-loot" drops for Jedi will be components rather than full-on lightsabers.
I am curious to see how much influence they put on loot for this game.
I recently re-watched a few of the videos, and a developer said in one of them that each class will have as much loot available to it as a full-fledged KOTOR game.

Then again, imagine how long you spend playing a KotoR game, and imagine how much time you spend playing a MMO. KotoR only really went to like level 20-25.

I guess it depends on the game system (WEG, d20, SAGA vs. JO/JA vs. KotOR/2, etc). Some of them focused on other parts of character advancement, some of it added it in as additional means of advancement. I like upgrading stuff, so being able to tinker with different lightsabers would amuse me.
Luke goes through two in the OT. Anakin goes through a couple. Greivous has like a dozen.
That's because Greivous hunted Jedi like we hunt deer.
Yeah, lightsaber building has always been a "rite of passage" for a Jedi Apprentice.
It wouldn't surprise me if start the game with a "training lightsaber" and the first quest-arch on Tython is gathering materials to build your personal lightsaber.
And from the dev pictures I have seen quite a few unique hilts. I hope they do the hilts ala slot machine, where you can cycle through different sections to piece together a semi-unique saber hilt.
I can understand an established Jedi Order using standardized components for lightsaber construction that can be mixed and matched to build ones personal saber. I would much rather have two or three dozen people running around with clones of my saber than every 1 in 5.
Normally when playing a pvp game, my goal is to make the other guy break his keyboard, it would be nice to have an archenemy I could attack or be attacked by and then we can call it quits when we get tired.
and you know, you can shittalk which is by far the bestest of times

Minus the whole "mating call whistle" thing.

Of course he's killed a number of Jedi so obviously he doesn't need the force.
