Shaun White Snowboarding... Why is no one talking about this?
I did a search and couldn't find any threads on this game. I saw a commercial during South Park the other day and looked it up, since I haven't played a good snowboarding game since the original SSX when I first got my PS2.
I might be a little overhyped, but to me this seems like a revival of the golden age of ____boarding games, like 1080 for the n64 and Tony Hawk 2/3. Except with this, it's huge wide open areas you can play with your friends and plan custom races with player-set markers. And, as it shows in the first video, you can knock you friends down with snowballs while you're fucking around.
According to the hands-on previews I've read, the controls are amazing. It says that the left stick controls body weight while the right stick controls the upper body (grabs and shit).
So, are we gonna have a PA community once this comes out? Seems like the best community game since GTAIV's party mode. It comes out 11/16.
My wife did an article in Official PlayStation Magazine for it awhile back, she seemed to like what she saw. Says it combines attributes of an MMO with snowboarding. Sounds fun.

I'm definitely hyped about this game. I meant to make a thread about it a yoinks age ago, but it slipped my mind. It's basically Skate. on a snowboard, and that's not a bad thing.
By the way, what the hell is up with November? Most of the year goes by with one or two awesome games coming out, and then in November we get a whole slew of awesome-looking ones? Frustrating, man. Frustrating.
Shaun White is awesome. I remember first seeing him at the last winter Olympics. I actually have a t-shirt from his brand o' skater crap. And I can't wait for the next winter Olympics.
By the way, what gets me about this game is how totally different the 360/PS3 and Wii versions are. I mean, the Wii version isn't a lesser version, it's a completely different game. The Wii version is lot more SSX-like, and uses the balance board, which is cool.
I'm planing on getting the 360 version, because holy crap on a stick it looks awesome, but you know, this is actually the first time I'm tempted to get both the 360 and the Wii versions; I don't think they'd be anywhere near the same experience. They really should have given it a different name.
It looks pretty neat, but honestly, I'd like it even more if it were a new SSX game instead.
So, so true. I loved all the ssx games from the ps2 era. SSX and Tricky were great cause they had outlandish tracks that were just pure fun, and 3 was awesome because of the whole open mountain experience. I do hope this game brings back the same feeling.
Only saw the first video, but it looks kinda solitary. Are races in?
I've still got Amped 3 that I badly need to play more of, but the social side of this sounds pretty awesome. I might be tempted to get this based on its uptake.
Don't be silly, that's like tying your feelings about Tony Hawk the skater to Tony Hawk the game.
That actually worked out pretty well for me back in the day thankyouverymuch.
I don't really like Shaun White. That HP commercial he did? If anyone can come off as more of a self-important asshat on televsion I have yet to see it.
I do like snowboarding games though. Okay, just one, SSX Tricky. That is the end all be all of snowboarding games for me. So yeah, think I'm going to just keep those pleasant memories of Tricky alive.
Anyone tried it on the Wii using the WiiBoard for balancing?
That's what I'm wondering. Lots of previews have made the Wiiboard control scheme sound like the greatest thing ever. Hell I'd be more interested in buying WiiFit to use the board for this game than I would to use it for WiiFit.
Meh, combo-based gameplay. Didn't skate already establish that it's not how many tricks you do, it's how well you do them?
That is the one thing putting me off, watching the demo videos and just having him throwing down tricks all over the place. The controls do sound interesting and trickier than "press button, receive trick" and throwing down extensive button and trick combos, so that might redeem it. But I like the focus on getting one trick right, than getting a million tricks in sequence.

I love Amped 3, it is a lot of fun. I still really want another SSX game as well.
That being said, I will check this out, but looking at the e3 vids, it doesn't look very smooth to me. Any talks of a demo? If not I probably rent it to see how it is.
I've been looking for a good snowboard game on the Wii.
Somebody mentioned SSX Blur and said it was terrible. What's so bad about that game, all the videos i've seen look quite fun?

The control scheme was immensely divisive. I liked the controls for the most part, but I can also understand why others struggled with them. You carve left or right by tilting the Nunchuk, hit A or flick the Nunchuk up to jump, and then do tricks by combinations of buttons and tilting the Nunchuk and Wiimote. Honestly, I loved the controls but it was the design of the game itself that got a little tiring; it's essentially a greatest-hits compilations of previous SSX tracks.
Count me as another SSX diehard. I was very curious about Shaun White Snowboarding but I like the really over-the-top arcadey nature of SSX Tricky and 3.
I need a good snowboarding game to get me in the mood for this snow season.
Amped 3 was really good. The style is a bit hit or miss (might like it, might find it too utterly retarded for your tastes), but I enjoyed it.
Agreeing/adding love for Amped 3. Baron Von Havok was my gammer pic for a good long while back when I was playing Amped 3. The story is filled with off the wall type comedy that isn't for everyone, but like darleysam I enjoyed it.
I played it at the Eurogamer Expo, briefly. No-one wanted to show me the controls, and I'd forgotten I could wave around my press band and get instant attention. If I'd have known it was stick-controlled I probably wouldn't have fallen into all those chasms.
In my experience, it's terrible. But that's ridiculous bias.

This could be cool though..
*Totally not gay for Shaun White.*

It seems like the whole point is the social aspect, so I'm curious. I reserved Need for Speed, but I keep looking at this game.
This one being back to back with Stoked is a little frustrating. I guess we have to wait for both titles to come out to get any educated comparisons.
