    Welp. I beat the game.
I must say, Area 51 was something of a let down. The relatively low population of soldiers and commandos there made it seem far less of a "storm the fortress" task than infiltrating VersaLife or the Ocean base did. Karkians, Greasles and Grays are just not very interesting enemies.

The ending I went with was Merging with Helios. I understand that it's the canon ending, but it's not really a very rewarding ending. Denton just kind of walks out of the chamber and...that's it.

Bob Page was pretty lame, but I guess that's sort of the point. Simons should have been the final villain, and not this white suited clown who only really shows up in the last third of the game.

Still, all in all, the gameplay and the depth of the world more than made up for any flaws that may have occured in the game.

I'm definitely going to replay this.
All three endings are canon in DX2. JC merged with Helios AND joined the Illuminati AND killed the internets.

    EDIT:
Oh, beaten by a new page.

I played DX2 after DX, and while it wasn't nearly half as good as the original, it was still a decent game. And I liked the ending part.

    Deus Ex was- is- fantastic.

IW? It was pretty good. I played through the game, considering it more of a fan fiction approach to Deus Ex. Made it much, much more bearable considered how disappointed it should have made me.

Honestly, after experiencing a game like Deus Ex, I don't think people should be expecting a sequel of the same or greater quality. Same goes for all sequels.

More of a bewildered, naive Luke Skywalker sorta feel, I say. Maybe they should have tried something not so overused between the 70s and 80s.

    Run

    Alternatively use my method
If you are The Best you will have installed the speed/jump aug and upgraded it really high. Grab the ROM and then leap back up to the grate in the ceiling and hit the use key. It may take a few minutes, but eventually you should be able to close the door underneath yourself and then crawl back through the vents to the entrance. Then when you get close to the door they should realize the ROM is gone and start shooting. Run in the elevator, hit the button, get off, warn the programmer to get the fuck outta Dodge, then go to the wall on the left and remove a panel so you can fall through the vents to the bottom floor (using leg aug so as to not die) then run like hell to the entrance of the building

That is how I did it at any rate

Still haven't seen the whole Versalife complex due to my need to be professional in my sneakyness

Why would you ever pick run silent

    It's useless

I guess you will have to run, but have fun getting shot since you run so slow compared to other, better cyborgs who have the speed aug

run silent = speed aug + crouch.

Also: use the cloak. Surely you've got a cell or two to spare?

After you've beaten the game god knows how many times, you start to explore other skills and paths. The swimming skill actually gives you a ton of interesting short cuts. Plus, if you ever watched that DX post mortem, the creators discovered that even though the swimming skill and aqua lung mod were functionally the same for breathing time, the whole act of creating an "aquaman" type character was part of the experience.

Actually, this is why you shouldn't look up info on the game, so that you can figure out how to handle situations with the skillset you selected, rather than looking for the pre-configured Mostest Awesome Character.

Then play through it again and change things up with a different skill/aug set.

It's not necessarily about how it functionally turns out in the end. It's about creating a character.

I knew I loved Deus Ex when I originally played it, because of one moment fairly early on. My character had drank about as much alcohol as possible and smoked a ton of whatever the futuristic crack rock was.

I staggered, almost literally blind with intoxication, to a nearby park where a firefight erupted between two factions. Being too drunk to even see who was who, let alone walk or shoot straight, I arbitrarily decided to try shooting at the guys furthest away. I wobbled directly into the center of the park (and thus the center of all crossfire), rotated roughly 90 degrees, and held the mouse button down until I was out of ammo.

Eventually, when I sobered up, I realized that I somehow hadn't been hit even once, and that all of the terrorists/enemies were dead, and almost all of my little NPC buddies were alive and already leaving the area.

"Nice," I thought to myself, "this game is awesome."

While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.

After finishing the game on the PC (Icarus ending) I watched the other two on youtube, the PS2 versions.

They were definitely an improvement over the in-game versions, but I can't imagine the rest of the game being equal.

Except they took out the PC Dark Age ending's awesome music :(. Some of the best music in the game.

On my first playthrough, my legs got fucked completely in Hong Kong. No money, no health items, just me crawling about on my hands. Stealing booze from anywhere I can (it gave 2 hp each!). I love the image of a drunk as fuck leather-coated man scuttling about swiping beer when nobody is looking.

That's got to be a weird moment for any bystanders. You're sitting on the stoop of your dystopian future apartment building, sipping a 40. You keep hearing these dragging, shuffling sounds from somewhere nearby.

Suddenly you look down and see a trenchcoated cyborg dragging himself along, with one hand on your 40.

"It's ... it's for mah legs!" he cries out plaintively.

So, I downloaded Shifter, but how do I install it? Keep in mind that I'm playing the version off of Steam, and that I am a total newbie in terms of PC gaming.

Oh, and is the High-Def Texture Project worth installing?
