Ok so I have been tasked by someone to find an MP3 player for them, the problem being that once I bought mine a few years ago I pretty much stopped paying attention to the market so I have no idea whats out there/whats good/ect.

Specifications needed(or not):
-Between 3 to 5gb.
-Radio is not needed.(Though looking around it seems most come with one anyway)
-Doesn't need to play videos/pictures.(Not a negative if they can, just not needed)
-Must allow music to be sorted by category(IE: Driving, work, exercise) and then by CD.
-Larger screen is better, person has to wear glasses so doesn't want to have squint to see screen.
-Can not have a red LED screen(other color LED is fine)

Ones I've found so far:
Zen
Iriver E100

Anyone have any knowledge whether these 2 are any good? Or that can recommend other MP3 players that fit the above?

The ZEN is really nice. I have the 32GB version for a while now. Really easy to use. Screen scratches rather easily, so get an screen protector immediately. Also perfect for video's. You can choose how to display the video when you transfer it, either wide-screen or cut in. overall really nice!

Uhh it's not really to the specs, but I saw 2 gig iPod Shuffles being advertised for $29.99 at Pipers here in NL, Canada. It has no screen and no way to organize, but it's $29.99 for a 2gig so they could buy one for each category.

What about an iPod Touch? The screen and interface is very large and easy to read. Also has the advantage of being able to use the iTunes App Store. I don't care who you're buying this for, there's apps in the App Store that they would find useful.

Down here in the states the Shuffles are still like $40, I think having multiple MP3 players would also not been something the person this is for would want.

I kinda avoided Ipod stuff cause they tend to run $150+, which is a bit out of price range.

And this is for my mom and will likely be a scenario where she buys it then gives me all her CDs to put on it and never worries about it again, so I don't think she'd get much use out of Itunes or anything like that.

I have the Zen X-Fi and it's a fine piece of technology.

The normal Zen fits all your requirements, and it is likely your best option

Buy a Zen and be super happy with it. I used to have one, and it will do everything you want. It will also do them very well.

As a guy with a mom who has an iPod, it's totally worth it for her to have the freedom in putting her own music on. You might do the brunt of the get-up-and-go, but as soon as she gets a new CD she can do it herself.

My mom is pretty much how you'd expect a 57-year-old former housewife to be about computers, but she became completely addicted to the iTunes store after I got her an iPod.

The red LEDs on a black background give her a migraine. Growing up we couldn't even have those digital alarm clocks unless they were blue/green.
