I have such fond memories of that game. Not only did I love the single player campaign, it was my introduction to online mutlplayer.

I spent so much time playing that game on the old MSN Gaming Zone, such great times.

    Canyon Oasis ftw.

Man if they could combine the awesome story/power customization/fmv's from this, add the lightsaber combat from Jedi Outcast/Academy and the graphics from Force Unleashed...I'd be a happy boy.

I beat the game in 34 minutes. It was a pretty fun game to do a run of, with force speed and plenty of tricks and shortcuts you can use. The only two things I think could have gone better was an alternate route on level 15 that could have saved a few seconds, and the decision to get all the secrets on level 1.

Oh man I've watched that, great job man. Your gaming skills are impeccable.

I don't have any problems with the game running too fast, but I get a weird hall of mirrors effect on random parts of the screen until the whole thing is covered and I have to go to the menu and back to clear it. It only happens in 3D accelerated mode, but I can't use the high def models in software mode and the game slows to a crawl (I can't believe I'm saying this) when I look at water. Anybody know what's going on?
    jkbug.jpg

    (also mods lol)

I couldn't use 3D acceleration either. I had to run the game in software mode as well and yes, for whatever reason, transparent effects (such as water) seem to kill the framerate.

I remember that, back in the day, this was one of the only games that I was able to play over a modem competently. I can't even remember the interface now, but it was awesome. Anyway, I've added that re-skin pack to the OP because it's fucking righteous.

Please continue to shower praise on this game.

After some searching I found a software version of the model pack here. Some of the textures are grainy, but the character models are so much better that it's worth it.

So, how did you guys get around the whole mouse/keyboard quirkyness? When I originally bought and played this game it was YEEEEEEEARS ago and I played the entire game with keyboard. But, recently every time I try to get back into it I just can't seem to get the mouse working the way I want it to.

And, has anyone tried playing this under Vista, yet?

Runs fine on my machine. I was surprised, because I'm running dual core and Vista, but it was as smooth as silk.

Actually, there is one quirk, when I went back into the menu I got a black screen every time. I had to alt-tab out and back in to get the menu to show.

I ran it under Vista 64. I had to do a manual install (download the registry file and edit it) and run it in software mode (though this may not be Vista related but video card related) but it worked.

I have, and so far I've only run into 2 problems. The aforementioned 3D acceleration bug, and the menus showing a black screen until I alt-tab out and back again. Other than that, it seems to be working fine.

I recently reinstalled this after digging up my old hacks on someone's geocities website (lol) but it's having some trouble with Windows XP and my NVidia drivers I guess. No matter what resolution I choose, I get a small window within a black screen which is the game, but the health and ammo are at the corners of the screen outside of the little window view. It's hard to explain, but basically I can't get the image to fill up the screen. Any workarounds?

To my mind, nothing yet has matched the sequence of levels where you
Fight your way through a half-ruined city, rescuing or butchering civilians as you go, emerge into a full Imperial installation with full-scale AT-STs patrolling around it, seeing the impossibly high skyscaper in the middle and actually getting to climb it, fighting a Jedi master at the top in an opulent palace, escaping onto the roof and getting strafed by a TIE Bomber, then going back inside and eventually getting mauled by a Krayt Dragon.

It used scale in a way just not seen in modern games - probably because of the expense of modelling all those jillions of polygons. Still - I long for some of the massive expanses and dizzying heights in that game.

Oh, and anyone remember dropping into a pool of water and seeing one of those...red things come at you? Almost as bad as the HL shark.

Am I the only one that remembers those yellow-ish, bee type things that flew at you. I'm not entirely sure why, but back when I first played Jedi Knight (I was really young), those things scared the living shit out of me. There was just something so disturbing about them.

    My favorite mission was always
escaping that ship while it was falling in a canyon. I mean it wasn't too visually impressive but the idea alone was epic.

Also, Kyle kills Krayt Dragons with his bare hands in DF. Yeah he's that bad ass.

This. This game was THE game in high school. Forget Doom, or Quake, or Half-Life, or any other of those dime-a-dozen FPS's. When the Internet started to spread out and more and more of us started getting hooked up via dial-up, this was the game we played every night. Great times.

I would say Mysteries of the Sith was even better than this, but it's a pity that never reached the same levels of popularity.

Quake along with the original Team Fortress mod was incredible.

This was such a beautiful game. First thing I ever really played multiplayer on, too. Aah, 56k. Lightsaber battles with other people blew my mind.

And yeah, the levels. THE LEVELS. Nar Shaddaa alone is probably bigger than Gears of War.

I think the first level that really blew me away with its size was the sewer and pipeworks. Holy HELL did it go on forever. On and on and on and on.

After that, the Imperial base. Up until then, I had never before seen open spaces that big in a shooter. Heck, you STILL rarely see spaces that big.

I still remember some of the cheats for this game.

pinotnoir (like the wine) is flying mode.
    red5 is all weapons
raccoonking is some kinda force powers thingy

My favorite was always putting on slomo1 and running around between lasers. Most fun ever.

    Edit:
Also, one of the coolest things I remember was that hitting a wall also counted as sudden stop damage. In half-life engine games, only hitting the floor would do anything.

But in JK, getting thrown by an explosion into a wall would cause that sickening bone crunchy sound, just like hitting the floor.

This game was great. One of the first games I played online to a ridiculous amount.

Does anyone remember how you had to play this online? There was no in game lobby so you had to use services like Microsoft Zone! to be able to build a 4 player lobby that would then launch the game. Totally ridiculous.

I posted about my time with this game in TFU thread. I played this so much to the point that by the end I was hacking the shit out of it. Double bladed lightsabers, all force powers, repeaters that fired concussion rifle blasts. Just the most ridiculous stuff you can think of.

But I still had the most fun when I was playing legit.

So Mr. Magic carpet rider and trillion fireballs per second man, we meet again.
