From the video I've seen so far, I'm a little underwhelmed after CoD4. It kind of feels like the same old but I'll have to wait and see more. Maybe it's the whole WWII era getting a little stale after the explosion in those games 5-6 years ago.
Yeah I just randomly recieved a code in the mail as well, wooot, cant wait...shit takes so damn long to download with my shitty internet though...this will be a while...but damn, I really wasnt expecting it, I just suddenly got mail and it was the code, I love signing up for things!

I mean, it's basically CoD4, but with horrible level design. Yes, the levels work wonderfully if you're playing War/Domination. But I don't like playing Domination. So, with regular deathmatch, you have to constantly be on the move (like in Bad Company) because if you fucking stop for one second, some asshat that was hiding in one of the 50 random, barely accessible corners will pop out of his camp fest to shoot you.
Weapon balance is awful. The only screwed up weapon in CoD4 Beta was the M16. The bolt action rifles are absolutely pointless without a scope and the semi-auto rifles take an entire clip to put someone down. Granted, this can be fixed.

Weapon balance is still able to be fixed....ya know....Beta...but, I actually like this so much more than CoD 4, I hated 4 online but I love this one, I like how theres so many places to hide and all that, I also love the dogs...I just really want this one, screw 4...

What's the last sentence in that post of mine that you quoted?
I do agree with the dogs though. Super cool. I like how you can fend them off, so unlike the chopper, you actually stand a chance. I think the dogs even wander around until they are all killed. I don't think they disappear or anything.
I hate that the Camo (UAV Jammer) and the Bouncing Betty (Claymore) is still locked. Having those two would help cut down on my aggravation.
Well I finally found the time to play a few rounds tonight, and it felt kind of fun. Little (very) frustrating to spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, run, die
but once you've got some room between you and the bullets, it's not too bad. At the least, I like the look of the maps, got a cool feel about some of them.
I'm no sensitivity expert, but isn't the topic title kind of racist as hell?
Also, what perfect timing for my 360 to die a horrible red-ringed death. I'll be looking forward to picking this up and getting back together with some of you COD4 dudes to have some more good times.

No because the japanese army was shit you see. I mean the glorious nation of nippon.

It's more a reference to the trailers and promotion for the game featuring a lot of flamethrowers and flame tanks, being used on Japanese troops.
That's their angle, who am I to question it.

I think it's the usage of the word "jap" more than the burning and the crisping, really. I mean, roasting people alive is all fine and cool, potentially-offensive ethnic slurs a little less so.
Shall I append 'Krauts, Ruskies and Yanks' to it, too?
edit: story time! The title was initially Call of Duty 5, I was instructed that that's not its name, so I changed it to something that fits the promotion going around for it, mainly lots of flamethrowers. And obviously Japanese soldiers being on the wrong end of those flamethrowers.
I can also claim that I strongly doubt any enemy soldiers will be portrayed in a fair and equal manner, more likely to be seen as a savage and evil monster, compared to our innocent good guys.
edit 2: and that Japanese make great kindling.
In case everyone failed to realise, I'm actually not racist
I like the two pacific maps I've played. Hate the railyard, both the map and the ridiculous German accents. They should've just taken the sweltering jungle island thing and run with it. Fuck the Battle of Berlin. As far as I'm concerned, Germany lost the war after COD2 and went right to building VW Beetles for the hippies.
My favorite weapon setup so far is the BAR with Stopping Power and Deep Impact. It just feels so right. But damn, the rifles are good. Most of my deaths are to SVTs and Springfields so far.
Grenades still feel kind of off like they were in COD3, and even though melee seems sped-up compared with COD4, it seems fairly difficult to use effectively. And dismayingly tough to use against those ravenous dogs.
Teamwork seems even more important than COD4. With the shallow magazines of these weapons and killer pooches running around, it's easy to get overwhelmed if you're on your own. So pubbing may be painful.
So, yeah. This is pretty much CoD 4.5 set in WWII. That's not a bad thing though. Control points is fun if pretty much a carbon copy of BF2's idea. What I don't like is the sudden death it goes into even if your team has control of every capture point except one when time expires. I'm pretty sure the other team wasn't going to win.
The one thing I'm most interested to hear about is stuff like how they're handling weapon upgrades and attachments. Assuming they're even taking that aspect of CoD4.
Also whether there's a decent shotgun. The first shotgun in CoD4 remains my favourite weapon.

The shotgun seemed pretty good.
It also seemed kind of wonky sometimes.. so maybe it's not so good..
Weapon upgrades and attachments seem to be handled in the same fashion as CoD4. Really, it is is CoD4 with a WWII reskin.
And its surprisingly good. The weapons are remarkably unbalanced right now (don't even bother using a rifle) but the core gameplay is fun, I'm enjoying it.
Don't do War tho. While War looks like it would be the best mode, and could potentially live up to that, right now its a spawn killing camp fest. Do yourself a favor and play a different mode.
I'll be on later to level up some more.
Oh, one other thing:
Looking at the barracks, Each level of prestige gives you a new custom layout slot beyond the standard 5. I thought that was a really good, tangible reward for prestiging a billion times.
It's like they kept the same voice actor for the Russians, Germans, and Japanese. The Russian accent is awful. Sounds like Elmer Fudd. We Wiww bweak thew Wiww!!!
Good news, again, my brother loves it. So I can probably count on him buying it.

if you change the title WHITE GUILT WHITE GUILT WHITE GUILT
Castle is pretty good but everyone always goes for the Dojo.
pretty much the exact opposite here. Love Makin, hate Roundhouse. Castle would be alright except the spawns suck. I keep spawning into artillery/enemy fire.
As far as weapons go, they all seem okay to me. I've heard the semi-auto rifles suck but I haven't gotten around to using them. The bipod you can get is pretty damn worthless though, you get such a restricted cone of fire I haven't found a worthwhile place to drop it.
And I actually like War, then again, I think I'm in the minority on these boards in that I liked Headquarters. Seems like most of the PA CoD4 players are more into Search and Destroy and such.
Other nitpicks:
Dog barking is nerve racking. I can only imagine how bad this'll be on PC where streaks are easier to come by.
Is it just me, or does it take forever +1 to throw a flare? And the effects of the flare seem to be greatly diminished. The stun gas on the other hand seems to be insanely strong (compared to Stun grenades in CoD4).
Tanks are borderline worthless. I think I actually like them this way though.
Japanese Engrish is cringe worthy.
Grenades (overall) seem less strong damage-wise. Molotovs seem to deal next to no damage.

When did we start playing Search and Destroy?
I don't think I've played a single S&D game with the PA guys.
It is, and weren't they trying to go for a more horror-type shooter? Knowing that dogs are coming to eat your face off is kind of scary. Hearing their running and the collars jingling..
Semi Auto Rifles are awesome, think G3. Just gotta aim right.
I enjoy the premise of war, however its execution (where the game inevitably turns into one team spawn camping the other) is terrible. And its not even "We're stuck at A flag on Crash and getting raped" bad either, its far far worse.
Played some of this last night after noticing i'd been emailed an invite to the beta. 8-) seems pretty fun... I agree it is cod 4.5 WWII and that's not a bad thing. I don't know that it will warrant a purchase from me but i'll definetly be on for the beta. If anyone wants to play this evening send me an invite/ friend request. I may not have a mic though as that depends on whether or not I feel like digging mine out.

I was cracking up when I saw three enemies spawn in an empty hut right in front of me, then 2 more.
Gotta echo the CoD 4.5 thing since it hasn't been said enough, it's not a bad thing but meh.
The one thing that does bother me though is how shitty the maps are, they look great and are pretty complex but maybe too complex. Like, cluster fuck complex there are no frontlines anywhere and it feels like team deathmatch may as well be deathmatch, can't count how many times I've spawned right next to an enemy only to be shot. You know it's bad when you watch their kill cam and see your character spawn in.
I retract my statement about the bolt-actions. Stick a bayonet on that sucker and we're cooking with fire. Honestly, I feel that it's just something you need to get used to, although they do seem to be just a tad underpowered. Nothing quite like using a Springfield to play Vlad Tepes, though. Here's hoping they kept Hardcore.
