    I'm the same way, Dragkonias.

I'm a lot less discerning in my tastes in movies, music and games now.

While years ago I would have scoffed at a game like Bayonetta or a film like 2012, now I can just appreciate them for what they are and doing what they do well, even if that thing they do well isn't really something too profound or meaningful

Yeah. I think it was partially because when I was younger I used to hang out with people who were the same way as I used to be and basically they spend all their time being snobby asshats for the most part and were just really boring people. Honestly, I think I just enjoy myself a lot more these days because I don't take things so seriously.
Dude I definitely came in here to complain. Yesterday I read the last few pages of this thread and the IGN review and saw nothing but breathless praise, and those were the key factors in me picking the game up sight-unseen. I'm fine with just continuing to write off IGN's opinion on anything, but for sure I am going to come in here and post my problems with the game.

And that's fine, I guess. Honestly...I just have no idea what it accomplishes. I mean I'm not being snide or anything but it isn't like any of us are developers, so I can see most of it falling on deaf ears.

Yet, at the same time, this is the internet and you're free to do what you want. And like you're just giving your thoughts, so was I.

If you're going to come here and talk about Bayonetta and why it's good, you should be pretty understanding of why someone would come in here and talk about why they thought Bayonetta was not

I was simply trying to atone for acting like a cockhead earlier in the thread - Given it's due, Bayonetta is quite an enjoyable game. Now I need to try the DMC series, seeing as Bayonetta seems to be cut from the same cloth.

DMC is awesome, but definately start with 1 and 3. Pretend 2 never happened and all is well.

4 is also good, even though it gets shit on by 'hardcore' fans.
Actually, the hardestcore DMC dudes love 4. There's a TrueStyle division for it and everything. They're doing stuff with it that melts my brain.

I will say DMC does have some pretty fun to watch combo videos which all don't just degenerate to "Keep using this same exploitable combo over and over again to get really high numbers" that a lot of videos suffer from.

Wow, I really suck at dodging those stupid
Lizard guys. Like every time they show up I lose a bunch of health because I can't tell what they're going to do. It's only the lightning one too. Fire seems way more easy to read and his spin is just free witch time. The lightning one though is such an asshole. I get hurt less by Joys than I do by just one of those things.

Any tips on not getting destroyed by them? They just jump around so much that I really can't tell what move he's going to do.

I have trouble with this too but try doing quick sword unsheathes with the katana during the normal punch, punch, punch, punch, punch combo, they will get hit and try to back off but the next slash should catch them then the next unsheathe will knock them around again. At the end of this the big jump forward and million stab will usually catch them for you.
Another good one is punch pause punch (hold) to take them into the air.

As for how to dodge their attacks I'm not too sure, I'm dodging them more by the feel of the timing of when they will start attacking after dodging than actually reading it. Just sort of try to keep mobile as much as possible. If you need space, go cat form directly away from them to grab some breathing room.
If they catch me I get smashed because I haven't figured out how to escape from their aerial combos yet.

If you have the crow form then quickly going into it and getting the circle of feathers with kick will stun them a bit when they try to attack you which is pretty handy.

I found with their aerial combos you can mash out a dodge during the third hit if you time it right. But yeah, those things are annoying.

It's like they telegraph their attacks so weird, so it looks like I should be dodging but I'm actually too early.

Man, Am I missing something about the Durga claws or something? Just got them and they just seem kind of underwhelming compared to the katana.

I'm not a big fan of the fire claws because they are pretty slow and a lot of enemies in this game are extremely fast. I do enjoy the lighting claws though, they're pretty quick and the shock explosion that happens when you charge up an attack is pretty powerful.

I like using lightning claws on the ground and fire in the air. Combo a dude in the air, then switch to fire and combo him mid-air. It works well.

Also, wearing the fire claws on your feets let's you run over burning ground without losing health.

I had no idea! Do the fire claws also let you attack enemies that are on fire without taking damage?

    OH MY GOD

I feel so stupid now for not piecing that together on my own.

I'll give some of those a try, getting them in the air seems like a really good idea. Same with the crow feathers. I also try to just "feel" the attacks and sometimes I can beat them flawlessly, but other times it's that aerial combo that screws me over. It does a lot of damage and I've tried timing dodges for bat form while I'm in it, but it seems like once you're caught in it you're stuck.

It's okay, I've noticed that effective moves that give you tons of damage actually hurt your combo score section. I didn't get hit and killed everything in a section with the massive sword unsheathe, but because I hadn't comboed the enemies much I got a low combo score and only got a platinum instead of a pure platinum.

Finally got the game, woohoo! As a PS3 version owner, I have to say... I really don't notice much lag during gameplay. In a few of the cutscenes though, when there's a lot going on and the camera cuts away, there's a slight pause, but nothing like serious stuttering... I'm also happy about the graphics, and with all the action on screen, I don't stare hard at the textures, so I don't notice anything off...

Accessing anything that takes you away from the game screen WILL take a few seconds. But for regular items, it's only the first time as the game loads item descriptions. After that everything's golden. There are also long pauses between chapters and going in and out of the store, but since I suck at combos, I just use that time to practice, so no complaints from me.

I keep on failing on the proper timing for WT though, which is annoying...

I think the port's woes were highly exaggerated, but the differences are indeed there. Just buy it, and be happy to be playing some crazy gun-fu action.

I remember a while back seeing Digital Foundry (too lazy to check spelling) and the dreaded "Clock Tower" scene looked like a slideshow. Then, the actual game comes out, and it looks nowhere near that bad. So... since I can't digitally give a shrug, just go and get it if you wanna play it.

I found the other weapons to be kind of slow and pointless, especially the
whip. I also dislike the claws. Does anyone else manage to do well with them? If so, tell me how! :D Oh, and you can generally cheese the hidden levels with limited punches/kicks by doing a whole whack of bullet climaxes. Each one only registers as one punch or kick.

    8-)

Listen up, I been maining the whip and always have the claws on my feet.
    Whip:
When you hit the enemy and hold the button down, she will lasso them and pull them over to her. Keep hammering the punch button and she does a very fast series of slaps and then does a hair punch.
You can do this after jumping in the air and it's got an extremely long range. Now it's not so good against anything but little punching bag angels unless you are in witch time, when it works on anyone and does a lot of damage.
So you can whip out of range, dodge an attack, then pull a guy over and massacre him. The little slaps work just like normal punches so you can do a couple of slaps then do the heel stomp combo, whatever you want.
Works really well on the Joys and the whip rapes the wheels and those other flying guys.

You can also rotate the left stick when in the middle of doing the pull over to fling the monster 360 around you hitting everything around you and finally throwing it away.

Finally the punch, punch, pause, hammer punch combo with whip makes her smack the whip on either side of her and a bit in front of her, making it a fantastic aoe for multiple angels that will often daze the lot of them. You have to keep an eye out for angels who aren't stunned and are gonna hit you since she's stationary, but this usually means you get a witch time so now you can pull that guy in and smack him up and usually kill him.

It's a great weapon for boss fights because of it's range, you can whack em a few times then dodge. I usually switch to the katana when I've done a witch time dodge and they are vulnerable but it's a great "until you get that dodge or daze opening" style weapon.

For the claws, I don't really use them on her hands, but I do put them on her feet with the electric one. If you fully charge a kick with the electric claws she does a sort of explosion pulse shockwave. This does incredible damage when combined with the sliding heel move and is a great addition to katana's arsenal. For example, punch, kick (hold), punch will do a bucketload of damage.

This works with the stiletto move and normal punch (hold) moves with electric claws, but I prefer them on her feet with the katana because I prefer the katana as a melee weapon. I'm just better with it myself.

As for the fire claws, they leave a little deaths head in the air when you hold the button down. After a certain amount of time it explodes and if it hits a monster it does a bucketload just like the electric one. this deaths head can be used as a kind of mine, any monster who runs into it will get hit. So it's a nice keep away move, you can release it then dodge around with it in front of you and make them run into it.

I also think it does a bit more damage than the electric and if you happen to do it directly on an enemy it does it's damage immediately. It's a bit slower though and it's punches and kicks have slower animations (although I think they do more damage), so I prefer the electric.
You switch between fire and electric claw mode with left stick circle plus punch/kick.

Hope that helps someone have fun with these weapons, I really like them.

I didn't know that about the first weapon but right after I made the post I ended up playing with
the claws and figured out the explosions and stuff. I edited my post right after. Love them now!

My biggest issue is I keep forgetting you can equip stuff on your feet to vary up your combos. I had a similar issue in DMC4; I hated using Dante because that was the first DMC game I beat and I was totally used to Nero's playstyle. I didn't use Gilgamesh because it was 'slow and crappy' and I hadn't experimented with the chargeups and cancels you can do with it. Now I use Gilg and Royal Guard to kick the shit out of Blitzes on DMD.

Shit, I'm rambling. My point is I often forget to experiment when playing these games and then wonder why I keep hitting brick walls of difficulty. Had the same issues with God Hand til I realized dodging wasn't just recommended, it was necessary! I'll try out some more combinations when I fire it up again later.

And man, I don't relish looking for all of the fights/medals. I feel so discouraged when my rating is Stone because 3-5 of the 10 medals in a stage are blank. :P

I got so used to using guns on hands and feet that the katana feels slow in comparison. I refuse to not use it though, I'm a big fan of bladed weapons so I'm determined to get used to it :)
