MvC2 single-handedly ruined me on fighters in general. I suppose if you were retarded *cough* Colt *cough*, then button mashers might present you with a problem. For people who can actually play games, it was awesome.

Playing against hardened competitors required excellent reflexes and actual thinking for most fights. Yeah, there were people that turtled or did stupid stuff that was impossible to block, but once they figured out nobody was going to fight boring or cheating players, things were fine. Every time I try out a fighter game these days I can't help but feel that it's just too slow. I'm sure there are other high-speed fighters out there, but I've never bothered to search them out because it just wouldn't be the same. Who wouldn't love a game where a single mistaken block can cause you to lose a team member in a matter of seconds and features some of the most iconic characters among gamers and comic book lovers alike?

Kinda hope they fix stuff like infinite combos and the aerial block-break against incoming characters, though. I know tournaments banned certain things, so maybe they'll remove things that are obviously exploits?

Man, if they started re-balancing things and removing exploits, infinites, what-have-you, then the Internet might explode from the all the bitching. Might even make Smash Bros. threads seem tame!

I want your collection just for Tron Bonne.

When I started this insane quest I figured that finding a Megaman figure in the right scale would be damn near impossible; imagine my surprise to find Megaman, Roll, Tron Bonne, and Servbot all in one series. That was a happy day. 8-)

marvel vs. capcom 2 is so broken, might as well make a whole new game. They should just cut all characters except the 4-6 usable ones and there you have it

While certain teams are more potent than others, as long as you avoid players that obviously just win by exploitation things should be fine. Hulk, Juggernaut, and Sentinel may not be the most winningest team, but against a reasonable opponent they're a bunch of fun and have a fair chance at winning.

I don't imagine that people who want to actually enjoy the game will play much against random folks. Sure, veterans will have the advantage right after release, but how long until all the screechy pre-teens search out all the cheapest crap they find? Xbox Live's accessibility is both a blessing and a curse. No fiddling with system settings, but any kid with stupid parents can ruin everyone's day. I would kill for Microsoft to add a complaint option for "Whiny, annoying kid". You send the complaint and along with it goes five seconds of the kid's voice chat. Whiny and annoying? Banned. When the parents complain, Microsoft can just point at the Terms of Service.

I would similarly like to see this added for mouthy racists except replace "banned" with "federally sanctioned mail bomb".

That doesn't say shit about an XBLA or PSN release, just lists those two platforms.

Pretty much this. I imagine that the ESRB has to rate things not only for the system the game originates on, but any system that allows it through backwards compatibility.

It would be great to have a digital copy (or even an online-ready version), but my understanding was that the series was tangled up in legal issues that prevented them from even reprinting the game whatsoever.

Don't be ridiculous, if that were true then nearly every PS1 game would've had to be re-rated for the PS2, not to mention the GC-Wii and PS2-PS3. They only have to re-rate things when they're re-released on a different platform.

As for the legal issues, EA's contract with Marvel expired last year so Capcom are now free to team up with Marvel again. On top of that, Marvel have hinted that they may be working with Capcom.

I have one "friend" who rushes to "read up on it" whenever I mention a new game to try. :|

    GameFAQs is the Devil!

I think it's okay to get a gist for a game and ask questions/discuss gameplay (otherwise I wouldn't be here), but I also think it can remove a lot of the experience. Not so much if you're playing with a bunch of like-minded people who actively want to get better and more competitive. If there's a community built around it and you're all having fun then there's no harm, just don't expect everyone to be receptive to that.

Same thing with gaming news. Really, when it comes to matters of entertainment, moderation is ALWAYS the key. Otherwise you're bound to develop the worst kinds of anti-social behaviors.

When people just want to dive in and have some fun it can really kill the mood if somebody has spent way too much time with a game and is relentless in their gameplay approach. For a more relevant example, if a total amateur at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (like me) goes up against an elite player, at least try to catch on and make it even more humiliating by beating me with Dan, Roll, and the Servbot.

All that said, I'm not about to whine if someone approaches a game like this and I get stuck "facing" them. If it bothered me that badly I'd just move on and find something better to do, there's no point in bitching or moaning over play style. There will always be other people to play with and other ways to entertain myself.

Man, I had friends like that too. When the latest pokemon game came out for the DS, my friends were all insisting on which pokemon to get and which ones did the most damage or what was the best team to steamroll anyone who challenged you. It made me sad, because when I loved it as a kid it was because of the whole traveling a new world capturing cool monsters theme. Something about it felt weird, like they just completely took the magic out of it and stomped on it with their extreme gaming (reminds me of the jaded gamer thread, seeing the game behind the game instead of just experiencing it)

I remember when I first played the bioshock demo and how immersive it was. It was a really great experience and I had my friend go through it to let him see how kickass it was. When he got to the part where you have to cross the roof beams with a little sister under you, and your character lowers his weapon (right before the first big daddy encounter) he spent minutes trying to find a way to bring his weapon back up so he could try to shoot her...that irritated the shit out of me. Just experience the game man, stop trying to fuck with everything

They're also the kind of people who IMMEDIATELY find out the cheapest thing to exploit in any game and then abuse the shit out of it, or instead of choosing whoever looks cool will choose whatever has the best numbers

but yeah, whatever. I guess if that's how they enjoy the games..

whoooooops sorry for derailing. I've only played a bit of this game, but it was pretty fun when I did. My friend lent me the disc, but my dumb PS2 stopped playing blue disc games, so this is probably going to be a definite buy.

If this really happens, I'd consider it the best news in a long goddamn time.

MvC2 has been my favorite fighting game since it came out back on the DC...and unbalanced or no, I've probably spent more hours having fun playing the game with friends than just about any other multiplayer title I can think of.

That's a good attitude. I'm a competitive player and I understand that not everybody plays fighting games on that level. I'm not about to go over to my 11 year old cousin's house and catch him in a ROM infinite or something.

That being said, you can't take out the infinites and stuff. Then it wouldn't be Mahvel anymore. The game, despite having a small playable cast, is near perfect. It's a game with a buttload of infinites, but you have three chances to avoid them. Not to mention you can't just run down the clock with it. After a certain point, you have to attempt a reset usually. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around why casual players look down on people who use "cheap" stuff. If I'm making an effort to understand the casual player, it feels unfair that I'm getting bashed for competitive playing. <-- Not that that means everybody.

Frankly, I wouldn't even care about the "Marvel" half, especially since that makes licensing a problem. Just make Versus Capcom, and double the Capcom slots to fit in new and obscure guys. Who wouldn't want the chance to team Arthur and Firebrand up, or honor Clover with the combined might of Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, and Gene?

Definitely, I would never have them change the core game. It's pretty fun to watch two people who know what they're doing go at it, I used to just hang over my friend's shoulder at a local arcade while they played MvC2 and even as someone who can't get into the game it was still entertaining.

Weren't there some fixes from the arcade version to the Dreamcast one? It'd be cool if you could play all the versions on this one.

No it isn't. They took the Dreamcast version and stripped it of the mission mode and art gallery (because they would have put it over the size limit). Then, late into the game's development, Microsoft removed the size restriction, so they were able to put the art gallery back in, but didn't have time to add the mission mode. But yeah, the game is the Dreamcast version.
