How does the game perform on PC? Does the engine seem well optimized? I'm still deliberating which platform to pick it up on, which is silly. I've got an 8800GTX, so I'm suspecting I shouldn't have any trouble running it at maximum settings.
Yes this.
Some one with pc version how does it do?

I left my computer and Steam running when I left for work thismorning. I hope when I get home from work it will be mostly downloaded and installed. In a perfect world I would download itself by the time I get home, but in the real world I'll probably have to go home and start the download manually even though I already dragged it up to my favorites menu.
I've never really understood the need for the southpaw control scheme, waaay back when me and my friends used to get together and play system link halo I'd occasionally swap out with a guy who used southpaw and never bothered changing it, after 10 minutes or so to get used to it It was just as easy to use as the default control scheme.
GameFly has this on it's way to me. Maybe I can talk my brother into picking it up though.
Which reminds me. I need to send back Fracture, which had a playtime of about 10 minutes total.
Anyway.
Early players bitched about how the game didn't have any recognizable terrain, all the dungeons were copy and paste jobs (bad, but it was okay in Mass Effect), and that in general, the game kinda was a let down.

Steam will probably require a restart once the game is released for downloads to start. That, plus you always have to manually start downloads.
I'm liking this game, but am noticing a distinct lack of funny. Mostly due to the lack of a textbox.
I miss "You critically hit raider in the eyes for 47 points, causing severe blindness. Like there's any other kind."

I also approve of this question. I have a 3.2 P4 and 7900 (I think). I know I am not going to be able to max the game out, but I am curious about how the game performs on low end systems.
Also what is the word on drm on the steam version?

Be careful. You're treading on my dreams.
I'm running on an Intel E6750, 4gig Ram and a 9800GTX+. I hope it runs smooth as butter.

I used to play Halo at a pretty high level and I played it a lot. I am lefty and got used to Southpaw, and now I can't go back.
I mean, I can use the other, it just feels like I'm a retarded caveman.

I think some people have an easier time switching than others.

Although I am a lefty, I have always used my computer right-handed. With my right-hand on the mouse.

I use my left hand, but it doesn't matter with PC games.
Though I don't know whether my PC could run this game. GeForce 7800.
See, I've been playing Fable 2 and Dead Space simultaneously and was hoping to leave Fallout 3 until after I'd beaten them. Then I went and read Eurogamer's 10/10 review today, and I couldn't want this game harder if I tried. It is absolutely the next thing I will be getting, hopefully still able to pick up one of the cool LE's.

Yeah, I am pretty sure this is the largest mistake of the RPG genre. We can't quite simulate everything in the world yet, and missing little messages like "To the west you see the light coming through the tunnel. You are looking at the sun for the very first time." and the aforementioned combat message hilarity just cannot be properly simulated with even the most badass graphics.
UPS tells me it was Out For Delivery as of 6:30am (now 10:30am). I really wish I could track down the UPS truck...
Given that the lowest review from any source is an 85% (or 8.5 or 'B') I'd say it's safe to say it's a winner.
The complaints have been mostly pertaining to dialogue, floaty character models, and not enough prostitution. I mean seriously, were the whores in the previous games that important? I've played the games many times over the years, and I enjoyed the experience greatly without once getting laid.
I just don't understand the fascination. Put down the controller, get some sunlight and get some real ass. I might need to post this in the Fable II thread as well.
crap scanned just down the road at 8 this morning and its 10:30 now and they haven't brought me my game. i ordered the boble head and lunch box and had it sent to work so i can put them on my desk and take the game with me when i leave tonight and while no one is around my cube i can wisper sweet nothings into the disks ear..... or um yeah that went to an odd place.

err...do any steam games require cd keys? i've never seen one that did
Uh... no. But, you see, Fallout 3 will really not have a cd-key. To the extreme.
(I misread his post)
Wait... you mean the eXXXtreme? Wow. That is a lot of not having a cd key.

Maybe it's because I haven't played a western RPG in years, or I've never played a Bethesda game, but a lot of your comments strike me as "it isn't as good as I expected." All I can say is that so far, I'm having a blast, and that's all that matters in the end. It's a first person shooter/RPG that works really well.
... Man, I wish I didn't have school, so I could put some more substance behind this.
I really wish I had just bought from Bestbuy or Target or something. Gamestop.com kinda screwed me over -- the game was marked shipping, ready to go, available at local stores, etc, so I bought it online yesterday and paid $15 for overnight shipping, but after being in "Verify" status for a few hours they changed it to "Preorder, Ships 10/28".
Just a little tiny screw you for not doing the preorder in a B&M store, I guess.

So PC or 360 version? I have an Alienware machine so it'll probably run pretty well on my PC. Will there be community/mod support, does anyone know?

I would also like to know how the PC version performs. Based on the horribly unoptimized Oblivion, I'm not sure my rig can handle it. As much as I hate to think about it, my e6750 and 8800 GTS are already outdated by now.
Also! If anyone else ordering from Amazon got release day shipping, check your tracking info. While Amazon was still telling me I'd get the delivery today, UPS told me it wouldn't get here until Thursday. A call to customer service at Amazon didn't speed anything up, but I got my shipping refunded.
Is this any less expensive if I download it from Steam rather than go to Best Buy? I can't get on Steam from work, and I'm debating on whether or not to buy it on my way home from lunch.
""But then we began to think, really what benefit would there be in killing the kids in the game? It just seems gratuitous, unnecessary and cruel."
that just seems like faulty logic to me. Well, what benefit would there be to killing adults in a game? yet they have them in there for you to kill by the hundreds. Also, priming explosives in your pocket and having the kids pickpocket you then blow up was one of the best parts of the earlier games. what benefit was there in killing them? stopping them from picking your bloody pockets
