Leaked shakycam trailer of Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday (PSP)

This was leaked from the closed Square Enix Megatheater. If I'm understanding correctly, it starts with some CG from the first two Parasite Eves, then a quick CG scene, but then the segments with two scenes playing at the same time are actual in-engine game footage. Which, even from this blurry distance, looks freaking hot. Looks like Crisis Core, which was beautiful.

I don't know if we know anything else about 3rd Birthday, like whether it'll be more like PE1 (:)) or PE2 (:(), but I'll always hold a candle for Aya Brea.

Either way I'll be buying this game. I love PE so MUCH.

The title made me think the game would use a shakycam camera. That would be hilariously retarded for a game to use.

    Wah?

Other than specific instances, CC was largely a pretty dull cut and paste job.

Really, though, guys. Are you gonna get your hopes up?

This is a port of a cellphone game made by Modern Day Square.

The odds are not in our favor.

    EDIT

I also lol at the interview where the director said they wanted to focus on an older female character in her 30s. But decided to keep Aya as a hot 20 year old.

Well, I'm talking specifically about graphics, which is really the only thing we know about the game so far. This and the new Kingdom Hearts game are pretty sick in terms of what the PSP can push.

And I liked CC and I remember you really didn't, but I guess we'll just respectfully disagree. :)

Well I liked Crisis Core, so if its like that I'm ok with it. But I have no idea what is going on in this video. I'm not even sure if they showed any gameplay.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

The brief widescreen snippets could feasibly be in-game, and I'd heard on some TGS podcasts that journalists were gushing about how great 3rd Birthday looked, but I'm not 100 percent sure. I'd like to see the direct feed to really check it out, but on a guess it doesn't look that far off from what Crisis Core or God of War could do in-engine.

I think all we know about the game is that it's apparently a third-person action game with RPG elements and a focus on weapons customization. I'm grabbing at straws but I've been replaying the original PE on a whim and I just really, really want the franchise to have a positive revival!

IIRC, the cellphone game was scrapped and this is a PSP-specific project now, so my fandom optimism aside, I think there's at least a chance for a better game to spring up. It could crash and burn just as easily, though. :(

I defuse by nature, sorry! I petered out on CC after 15 hours or so, if it makes you feel better, but I think that was due to my attention wandering over to something else than due to the game itself. Though the temptation to overgrind on the side missions is too much for a lot of people to bear.

Yeah my friend did the same too. He did all the side quest missions and got so powerful that the main game wasn't fun anymore. Where as me I did a few of the side missions but largely ignored them to do the main quest. (fyi you should definately do main quest for the ending)

Well, they have to keep the attention of the pocket-pool demographic.

<Insert Gratuitous CG Shower Scene Here>

Yeah, that's about the pacing of the scene in PE2.
i admit i'm disappointed that the subsequent boss fight wasn't done in a towel
but where would she have hid her guns?
    not those guns

More than any other game, this game is pushing me towards getting a PSP. I absolutely loved PE2 & I've been dying for a new game in the series for a long time.

Will Eve in this game bristle with nipples?

I still remember the nude breasts in the PS1 version. That was the shit :D

I think I should get around to beating the original if I can find the damn wireless PS2 controller.

Can't wait for this. I wonder if it'll involve the ending of PE2 at all,
    and Aya's newfound adopted daughter.

I loved PE, but I never played the sequel. I heard it was rather polarizing. Then again so was Chrono Cross, and I love me some Chrono Cross.

Bottom line here: PE2, should I track it down or is it not worth my time?

If you don't mind an action RPG being turned into a survival horror, then it's an excellent game, with a good story.

As RE clones go, you could do far worse.

PE1 was an RPG with some survival horror elements. PE2 was a survival horror game with some RPG elements. I happened to love PE2, but your mileage may vary.

Eh, price is kinda steep. $37ish after shipping. There are too many games coming out right now anyway. I can hold off until a dry period.
