As a T3 healer, my only complaint is that I die very quickly. This could be rectified by a tank guarding me, of course, but finding a tank that actually knows how to act as a bodyguard, let alone one that's actually carrying a shield for such an occasion, is a very trying task indeed.

Problem I seem to come across mostly in PuG scenarios are the Tanks role in a skirmish. Times I lead the charge to break the mexican stand-off I either get no other melee support or the healers are left to their own devices dealing with RDPS and Witch Hunters. When I find a buddy healer to cover, the RDPS and Melee DPS are too afraid to commit to an attack if they even get looked at. Now with PuG tanks, they need to learn to cut straight to their backrow and disrupt their line and not stand toe-to-toe with the IB/SM in the middle of the Bright Wizard Crit-rape.
Bright Wizards are so easily neutralised if the enemy team has half an ounce of coordination. Agony spec sorcerers have hands down the best burst damage in the game (at full dark magic, not counting a shadow warrior using all their cooldowns and the morale of course), one of them focused on a BW assisted by any other DPS class will be enough to destroy the BW no matter how many heals they have. That's not even taking into account Witch Elves, who can kill the average BW in the span of 5 seconds sometimes.
People love to focus on the destructive power of the BW yet turn a blind eye to how ridiculously easy it is to kill them. Besides, Marauders are capable of dealing the same high damage in scenarios (400k+) and there's very few complaints about them - most likely because the vocal majority on forums seem to be Destruction.
Personally, I'm very very close to shelving my BW for good and starting up a Sorc. I really want the burst of Agony and the abundant healers/tanks to protect me on Destro, and also to support a Black Guard later.
the fact that you used 400k+ damage from a marauder as an example of high end damage leads me to believe that you aren't actually in t4? yes, there are marauders that did reach that ridiculous amount of damage in a scenario. why? because of a bug that has since been rectified.
i have yet to see any t4 scenario have anyone break much more then 200k damage.
the fact that you find a burst damage spec sorc PLUS one other dps class being able to kill a bright wizard through healing as something as a negative is also pretty funny.
I am level 40, and I don't know much about Marauders other then the fact I've seen them do comparable damage to Bright Wizards. Whether that's due to a bug or not I have no idea. Could be.
I assume you're talking about anyone other then Bright Wizards/Sorcs reaching much more then 200k damage, because we get a lot higher quite a lot of the time.
Not sure what you mean by the sorc comment. A burst damage sorc is strong, but won't kill most other classes by themselves if they're receiving heals.
I'm just getting more then a little tired of everyone on the "other" side whinging about Bright Wizards constantly. I guess I'm whinging back a little. Not intending to sound whingy though.

Yeah, being on the other side of things, I can safely say that Witch Elves are a much larger threat than Witch Hunters ever were. They do incredible damage. Their survivability is shit, which is great for me as long as I can keep them in front of me (as SM).
I dunno, as a WH, as long as it's not a healer, it seems like I can eat most things alive. Especially the super-squishy witch elves.
(Not that I actually eat things alive... that's for chaos scumbags... you get the point.)
The others shall fall when I get my anti-healer/spellcaster abilities in a rank or two.
Oh I don't doubt you at all.
I'm pretty sure I was just playing against bad WH's. There's a lot of those.
As everyone knows today was the end of the 30 days trial period for WAR. No MMORPG, not even WoW, has had 100% of the people who buy the box then sign up to play the game. For a good reference check, when DAoC first launched it had one of the highest conversion rates (those who buy the box and then become paying customers) at the time when in it's first month it had 72%. Of course, most industry people (including myself) think WoW's conversion rate was much higher than that. Thus, it is expected that you will lose some people when you first switch to billing (unless you don't sell well the first few weeks). In our case, we sold exceptionally well and so we expected our peak numbers to go down a little bit. While I can't disclose the exact numbers (and neither does WoW, EQ, etc.) for reasons I've talked about before (public company, financial disclosure), I can say that as of five minutes ago our peak server population was only about 3% lower than yesterday's peak numbers. Considering that this was our first billing day (well second actually but the first was very small) and that our competitor is certainly trying to attract people back this weekend, I'm extremely happy with that number. Also, it is pretty standard for all MMOs that the number of people who miss their billing day, start to trickle back within the next few days to enter their CC information and resub. In the case of DAoC, we gained about 5% from each billing day as customers reactivated their accounts.
So, I'm sorry to disappoint some of you but the sky is not falling (again), unless you expected that we'd have a 100% conversion rate in which case, I'd love to sell you some oceanfront property in Arizona.
Edit: And yes, we did raise the server caps as well not too long ago.
When we made the changes to renown gain for healers, I said that we would be monitoring the data very carefully (which we are) and if we overcompensated, we would make some adjustments. So, I wanted to see for myself what it was like and here's what I've seen so far for my WP:
1) I've gone from level 8 to level 13 playing casually with a mix of PvE and scenarios.
2) My renown rank is about 12 1/2
3) I usually finish in the top 5 in terms of experience gain and more often than not, I'm either the top healer or one of the top healer. By the time I reached 10th, I was consistently in the top 3 in exp gain, usually #1 or #2 healer and I was #1 healer and exp gain a number of times as well, especially at 11. I then went to next chapter and was running MT a lot.
4) I spend my time running around, healing everyone I can regardless of group and I always stay in the party that I am assigned by the game. I do some damage but I've been concentrating on healing before anything else.
So, I'm not going to say "working as intended" but I want the healers who feel we've gone to far to tell me what they are doing (career, level, playstyle) and what gain they are seeing and why think that the number they are seeing is too low.
Please do not derail this thread or take it off topic or get into an argument with each other here. I'm looking to hear from the healers directly why they think we went to far based on their experiences and their own personal data. I don't want to talk about the changes "in theory" but I do want to have the healers relate their experiences with as much data as possible.
Yesterday (and the day before) we were running some guild groups in T2. Our 2 healers were almost always #1 and or #2 in healing in the scenario, and yet they would often have the lowest renown earned on our side. They were pretty low level for t2, 8-12ish. I've noticed that after a player gets higher level (I think past 18 in t2, the renown drops a bit, opposite experience which goes up because its based on level). All I can tell you is that they are pretty much just focused on healing.
I just don't think if someone contributed #1 healing they should get the worst renown.
I agree, assuming the guy wasn't exploiting the system somehow (I'm not saying your guys were!). But the point about the dropoff after 18 is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for from you guys and that's why I'm playing the healer myself though I don't normally play healers.
Edit: I'm also playing Order exclusively right now and it just feels so wrong for me. I've been looking forward to playing Destruction but thought it best I focus on the side that is both saying that they are undermanned and that the other side is saying is overpowered. An interesting combination.
I don't exactly think a warrior priest is a good test for a healer. A runepriest maybe. Usually if a WP heals you, it's by accident.
Well, I wanted to try it with the WP first for that exact reason actually. I figured that if I could do well with a WP playing a healbot, that it would apply to my RP as well. Once I hit about 15 with the WP I was going to go back and play my RP. But you're right SF, most WPs I've run into don't heal and that just boggles my mind. When I was playing my WP (before the test) as a melee first/heal second guy, I was having a blast.
I couldn't agree more. I spent a lot of time running around in disbelief how some people play in the scenarios. In some of my PUGS, our tanks usually beat up on other tanks and DPS guys were just running around and around (but not doing a lot) while I'm using my WP (who is trying to be a healbot) to go chasing after healers or main casters because the tanks/dps are just slugging it out, because when I did that, then the DPS/tanks sometimes came over sometimes. I had a number of really good PUGs though that did get it and then its a lot of fun. But when they don't, you know you don't stand a chance.
It's very odd for me, as a long time MMO player, to hear the games' director talk candidly about playing the game himself. It really gives me a lot of hope for the future. I've spent most of my years under the banner of Blizzard or even SOE, and you just don't get this kind of dialog from anyone remotely involved with actually making changes to the game. You assume that the people making the game play it but, really, do they?
I think the WoW episode of South Park said it best, coming from one of the fictionalized Blizzard higher up's...
Yes, I get a heavy early CoH vibe from MJ, which is awesome - I loved the CoH developers to death for how involved they were with the community, and it's awesome to see MJ do the same.

I don't play World of Warcraft, I have a life!
When you spend your entire workday centered around a game, I can hardly expect you'd want to play it on your off time.
If I had been developing WoW for this long, as a constant member of the team, I would think that I would hate and resent the game and it's population base.
I have come to really resent the game as a player. If I had to talk about and deal with it EVERY SINGLE DAY, I'd probably be pretty depressed.
That fact would have been the sole thing keeping me there so long in the first place.
I can't accurately say how I'd feel about it, it would depend on a lot of variables. I would just think that working on the game for such a long period, and especially one that is given the attention WoW is, would become very frustrating.

Reading these statements/commentaries by Mark makes me realize that WAR is a good place to stay in.
Seriously, it's like everything we talk about in the guild chat turns up a day or two later in one of Mark's posts. It's amazing. And kinda frightening.

You missed so much T4 RvR Saturday.
Praag, Dragonwake, Thunder Mountain ending up in Reikland. Almost had Reikland locked down but it was 2am Eastern and people had to log. I made almost a full renown rank from 32.60 to 33.60.

I had that as well - running the 'check all of your files' option (little checkbox on the patcher login) cleared it up for me.
I don't have a login, for some reason, it goes to the patcher already and fucks up at patcher.myp. I'll reboot.
EDIT: Rebooting solved it.
I can't wait to get to T3...

I had a random healer profess his love for me after about 5 matches in a row of being the first one with the artifact.

How many % of the 750k players will resub.
They said that peak times were only 3% less today than yesterday... so...
...so not everyone bought it on day one, meaning there will be a lot of people whose 30 free days expire over the week.
That'll be a telling look I think.
Also, if people weren't planning on resubbing, then they probably quit before today. I, for example, haven't logged in for 4 days or so.
If tonight were several weeks ago.
