Do you take any prescription drugs. Legally or otherwise.

why were you drawing yourself in the mirror? were you using something that can be removed from the mirror? and were you drawing yourself with your tongue sticking out? sorry im incredibly curious.

and i have weird bumps on the back of my tongue too but haven't had anything weird happen with them.

Well ... I dunno.. Maybe you don't brush the back of your tongue enough? That's all I can think of.

    Forbe! - Nope.

Teopeht - I meant that I was using the mirror to draw myself. As in, drawing on the paper, looking at the mirror. It was an assignment for class, and I jokingly decided to try doing the assignment with my tongue sticking out. Once I did, I saw the greenness.

Googling around tells me that my tongue naturally has bumps near the back that are larger (someone else confirm this?). And that this green film might be related to me smoking. I guess I'll just brush extra and actually brush my tongue (never usually do).

I'm still not 100% sure that's whats causing it though so if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

I have the same thing. My breath is unbearable in the morning because of it.
I just found this so I am going to try some of these methods out.

Those bumps on the very back of your tongue are normal, I believe.
As for the mucus, try using a tongue cleaner. They sell them standalone, or often integrated into toothbrush.

    I wouldn't be worried unless you're feeling any ill-effects.

You don't happen to be eating less carbohydrates by any chance?

    EDIT:
Apparently brushing your tongue isn't a good idea.

I've heard of a green tongue happening from prescription drug use, never smoking, though.

Crowing is right though, it may be worth going to a doctor to confirm.

Why is brushing your tongue bad?

And yes, the bumps are normal.

Oh man, I love how H/A inflates my sense of self.

    *AHEM*

I actually went to the mirror to check this, myself, as I am a heavy smoker with sub-par oral hygiene.

Findings? Stuff was built up on my tongue. I wouldn't call it green though.

Call your doc and ask. You seem concerned enough to ask for help, and we're not exactly experts in the field.

H/A needs a resident doctor, I suppose. Think of how many threads would get one post before being solved.

Is it black at all? Fuzzy at all? Do you have a sore throat? Is your tongue sore to the touch? Do you have sores on your tongue?

Yes to any of those, get your butt to the doctor, sooner rather than later. That's the start of a fungal infection, which is not a fun experience.

How's your oral hygiene? Do you brush your teeth regularly? Use mouthwash?

The fact that it comes off with brushing and you didn't mention any discomfort or pain sounds like it's just a combination of something you ate and poor hygiene. You can also use a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide and water (1 part to 5), swish it around in your mouth and back of the throat and spit it out.

Oh and smoking really aggravates a lot of tongue, mouth and throat problems.

Yes. I can pretty much say that if they're the same "bumps" I'm thinking of, that's totally natural.

Not advice per se, but I'd like to thank the OP for posting this thread and the others for replying in it. I always have a horrible breath in the morning as I wake up, and I noticed my tongue is kind of white at the back. I never thought they could be linked, or that the white thing was even "wrong". Finally, I might have something to blame for morning-breath, and might finally have a way of fixing it.

    Just brush your tongue.

If the bumps are white and about the size of... i dunno... say... a dip n dot, then it could be strep, but if it was strep you would probably realize it by now.

    Tried mouth wash?
Its just the usual flora of your mouth growing, its fine as long as it doesn't grow out of hand and turn into something like oral thrush

Seriously try some mouth wash but unless you're immuno-compromised you're fine. Lay off the alcohol/cigarettes/asthma inhalers (well if you can)

Thanks a lot for all the replies guys.

After I got it all off, brushed my tongue last night, it was fine. I smoked again last night, a lot (weed) and my tongue is fine today so maybe it was just something I ate. If it copmes back or becomes a real problem I'll go and see the doctor.

There's no way it was as bad as oral thrush, it just looked like I ate something green when I hadn't.

Whats the verdict on brushing your tongue? I hear either that you need to do it or that it's terrible for you, I can't really find any sites with a definitive answer.

What I heard was that it was a good thing to brush your tongue, but tp not be rough with it because you don't want to wipe off layers of flora and protection, or something like that.

Also, now I see I've got nothing that is even close to be similar to resembling that picture. Ugh.

I have never used one of these, but I suppose that's another option to brushing your tongue.

My dentist recommended I brush my tongue, so I'm sure it's fine.

There's a name for this strange blackish-green fuzz that grows on the tongue. I forget what though.
