You will never need to use powerpoint again once you have keynote.
And now, you can even control your keynote presentations from your iPhone and be a professional motherfucker, never having to look at the screen and reading your notes straight from the phone. How about that? Let's see some other piece of shit smartphones out there do that with power point.
The software has existed for winmo for ages, and you can edit the presentation on the fly. I'm pretty sure the latest version has enabled a browser mode that works with any phone. I like how you added other to the last sentence - inclusionary.
The moral here is that everything has always existed, it's just that no one ever gave a damn until Apple did it.

Basically, it's all about marketing. And having a proper interface. 8-)

Has Apple fixed the asstacular Boot Camp drivers yet? I'd love to actually play games in Windows and have it not sound like the audio is coming out of speakers made of styrofoam.
Noper. I even tried updating to a different one of the Realtek website, but I must have did it wrong, cause my audio is still nowhere near the quality that I get out of OS X.
Yeah, everywhere I go people tell me "Use these realtek drivers *link*" but it doesn't fix a damn thing.
External Speakers/Headphones sound perfect, but I really don't want to have to buy external speakers or even use them as the iMac speakers sound great and I'm trying to keep things clean.
Really? My headphones get a bunch more feedback noise when no sound is playing while in Windows. When I'm using them with OS X, that noise goes away. Hmmm....

Note: Not always true.
You're right, we're talking mostly about stuff Apple made after the return of Steve Jobs.
And how the hell is staring at your phone during a presentation (not to mention trying to juggle a phone and a pointer), any better than just occasionally looking at your screen?
It's not. You will look like a tool by just reading what's on your slides during a presentation, no matter what source you're using to see the slides. A good presenter will know his information enough that he can just place key points on the slides, and then robustly expand on those points while looking at the audience. You could use your iPhone I guess to display bulleted notes of your key points as a self-reminder for flow purposes, something which any "piece of shit smartphone" can do. :P
Other thing is size as I use the mp3 player at the gym so is the touch too large to easily keep in a pocket while working out? or would I be supplimenting it with something like a cheap shuffle for gym use?
Personally, I wouldn't use my touch during a workout, as it definitely has some heft to it, and would piss me off. A nano is about the biggest size of mp3 player I would want to use for a workout.
Your phone basically helps you move slides along rather than having to be taping on your laptop or buying a bluetooth remote or whatever.
Or you could just use the $19 Apple remote (that used to come with new Macs for free) to move your slides along rather than the $199 iPhone...

Hmm. It's possible we're having different issues.
My sound in windows sounds extremely tinny. Like someone turned down the bass completely and turned the treble all the way up.
I spilled some liquid on my macbook last night. I immediately turned it off and began cleanup. I left it off all night and it run fine now, no weird noises or anything, but there are some parts of my screen at the very bottom that are much lighter than the rest of the screen. Is there anything to be done about this, or am I going to have to justify it and say it adds personality?
Also, my mighty mouse wheel thing feels kinda sticky, is there any way to open this bitch up to clean it, or even a non-invasive way to clean it?

I think the advantage of the iPhone would be the ability to see your notes/slides/timers (a timer is really nice) while moving around the room, but like was said its a mute point if the presentation/presenter are any good. A good presentation leads you naturally to the next slide without you guessing. A good presenter knows what's coming up. If all you want is a remote for the slideshow you can get a Wii Remote too (on a sidenote, PPtPlex is a nifty idea), and with a little extra effort (setup a sensor bar somehow) you have a platform/program independent wireless pointer and a mouse. That said, I think any "excitement" about this has more to do with Apple fans overreacting to everything that comes out of the companies mouth.
The coolest thing I've seen out of Keynote is MagicMove, and that looks really nice to me. Its almost a seller feature because we duplicate slides and change one or two things on them so often. Yet for some reason every reviewer I've seen kinda pisses on it as just more flash.
So I'd like to have a look at some AppleScript. Anyone got some links to intros and tutorials?
M first goal is a script that tells Adium and Skype to set myself to a certain status so I can let LaunchBar do that with a few keystrokes rather than setting it manually in both apps.

People gave a damn when they saw it being done, not when they used it.
I've been using my smartphone (a range of Nokia Symbian phones) to control my Keynote presentations for 9 years. Every time I do it I get comments on how amazing the presentation was for two reasons: the slides look amazingly awesome ("How did you make Powerpoint do that?" "Simple, stop using Powerpoint.") and that I'm walking around with only my cell phone in my hand.
And, the program I use on my phone (Salling Clicker) takes it ten steps further: I can control my Mac's mouse cursor from my phone. I've given live demonstrations of web pages, navigating them using the mouse while walking around amongst the audience. After those demonstrations people usually told me that they thought they were watching something prerecorded. To be told that it was actually a live demo blew their fucking minds.
Of course, I'm going to try out Apple's remote on my iPod touch because hey, why not. My concern is that the touch screen isn't the best interface for it because while I know that moving forward and back among slides is just a finger swipe, I can feel my way around my phone for other controls if I need them. We'll see how it goes.

Oh god yes. I've been doing stuff like this by hand for years... this will save me so much time when creating slides. Bravo, Apple, for making my life easier.
Sweet tip, thanks! I like that it also works for folders in the dock too.
It's pretty useful. On the one hand I like that there are all of these little things hidden in the operating system, but on the other it'd be nice for Apple to come out and say "Here, do this, it will be useful" in documented form.
Oh yes. One thing I have found very useful is subscribing to the "Apple Quick Tips" podcast. Just a minute long, the videos point out a couple of handy keyboard shortcuts in most episodes.
Although you want to get into AppleScript...Automator can do that with ease for you.
Like recording mouse/keyboard input? Can't see anything else that applies to applications.
Launch Application - is that what you were looking to do? I'd advice a sort of automator workflow that opened an application then Paused for about 2-4 seconds (or longer).
Well, that wasn't hard. (Apart from wrestling with Skype's internal API via AppleScript.)
set awaymsg to "Message goes here"
tell application "Adium" to go away with message awaymsg
tell application "Skype"
send command "SET USERSTATUS DND" script name "DnD"
send command "SET PROFILE MOOD_TEXT " & awaymsg script name "Message"
end tell
i made a green lantern icon because i could not find a decent one anywhere, but it is huge mclarge on my dock, anyone have tips on why it is so damn big?

Maybe make the icon itself smaller and put some transparent canvas space around it?
Yeah. Two gigs seem to be the absolute minimum for a pleasant experience. When I just had one there'd be plenty of swapping every time I looked at the Dashboard and stuff.
Now, with generic web browsing and some other minor apps running, I'm at 2.63 gigs free memory.
Does anyone here use LaunchBar instead of Quicksilver? One of my buddies talked me into giving LB a try, and it's not bad, but I want to do some "extra" stuff. For instance: Quicksilver let me make keyboard combinations to run a script/app, and this doesnt seem to do that.

Key combos as in global combos to launch stuff?
Anyway, I just switched to it after using QS since I got this Macbook. I like it a lot more.
edit: 500 Swedebucks for 2x2 gigs = 62 dollars in a straight exchange.

Yes, global combos. I had ⌥⌘L set up to basically lock the active session, and now I've lost that. I could just create an abbreviation for the script, but it just does not feel the same.
Oh, and regarding LaunchBar, I've never tried it myself, but does it really have enough features to justify buying it over using Quicksilver for free?
Thats what I'm trying to figure out. The thing I dont like about Quicksilver is that I never got the sense that it was an actively developed project and that always worries me.

I think that's because it's not. Last I heard, the dev said he had stopped working on it, although the source code was freely available. So yeah, it sucks that it'll never really get improved, but on the plus side, it doesn't horribly suck at it's current state either. :P
Well, people are working on improving Quicksilver. It's just at a different site now...which I don't remember at the moment.
I know the codebase was moved to Google Code, but I haven't seen too much activity or communication there either. Which is sad, because Quicksilver is pretty damn nice.
okay a question for you dudes. i can't really get into using quicksilver, i always just apple + spacebar and type in the app name/folder/file name and find it quickly, what can quicksilver do for me?
i downloaded it once, tried it for a few minutes and liked what i was used to better, but i could just not have given it the right chance, anyone have glowing reviews?
