Even in a game with plenty of grotesque sequences, having Fontaine drown forever is disgusting in a way that I can't properly express. It's at a level of pornographic violence that's normally only seen in a film like Hostel, and I'm exceedingly glad that something horrific to that extent wasn't actually in BioShock.
Otherwise, it's a fine proposed alternative to what I honestly felt was fine to begin with. Different strokes I guess.
It's a consequence of the premise, and works quite well. I mean, it wouldn't literally be "LOOOOOK LOOK AT HIM DIE AHAHAHA", it would just be "*bing* *angry angry man choking* -pan up- *bing* *bing*..." etc.
Being disgusted by a violent scene I can see, being disgusted by the presentation of the concept of a violent thing happening is just silly. I hope you've never read a sci-fi book involving a person falling into a black hole.

wouldn't the vita chambers eventually break anyway if the entire city is flooded?
Just to chime in though, the ending to Bioshock put a damper on the entire game. It really was a shame. I feel that the way a game is concluded is very important, and Bioshock failed pretty drastically at it.
I suppose they'd eventually short out or something. But really, you're supposed to hate the guy and want bad things to happen to him. Hell, you've just spend the game slicing, shocking, burning, freezing, disembowling, etc legions of people to get to him. What's one more horrible ending to a life? :P

Should I get the PS3's extra things for Bioshock? They're what, $20, for the extra level & challenge rooms?
I'll defend Bioshock's "good" ending till my dying breath! :x It's a beautiful outro, telling its own story and putting a melancholic twist on the player's role.
The "bad" ending can go die in a fire though, and I got it because the voicetapes had me believe the little girls were some kind of evil vat-clones

I agree. I also enjoyed the "good" ending, and felt rather happy to see... well, you know what you see. Those people. Doing what they were doing. It was nice.
However, that doesn't mean that the way we got there had to be the same. That good ending could easily have been reached with perhaps slight changes to the link posted, for example.
Look, to cap off my rant I'll just say this. However evil the final boss was, it would be sick to see a scenario setup where he drowns over and over again forever.
That's all.

So, is anyone else looking forward to exploring Fontaine Futuristics? I for one want to see how Adam is extracted without killing the Little Sisters.
In a world where steam can power a small helicopter that can accurately distinguish between friend and foe, I try not to assume much about how the technology functions.
Besides, that's what I understood it to be. The Vita Chambers stay on as long as there's still power, and there's going to be power until the lava vent powering Rapture seals over. Which would probably be more or less never.

Or untill the system that send power from the vent to the vita chamber. Much more likely.

My bet, it's just some convoluted, industrial sized tooth-paste tube squeezer...
basically the new antagonist is one of andrew ryan's rivals, sophia lamb, an altruist, a collectivist, and ryan's opposite. she, and some of her allies, like a religious preist who has converted her ideas into a kind of religion, are trying to keep the rapture together into a family
there are multiple big sisters but one of them is special. possibly unrelated, but originally big daddies were supposed to only have one sister to bond to, and as the prototype you still have that bond- your little sister is elanor, and it's been 10 years since you saw her.
dunno what to make of the new antagonist. the idea of her seems a little less well-done than ryan, and i enjoyed the light critique of rand/ryan's objectivism. you want a critique of left-wing ideals being warped out of all recognition and turned into a dystopia, read up on russian modern history, you know
it all seems a little tacked-on. i have no doubt that with the pedigree developer the game comes with that it will be great. i guess it's still a little up in the air, though, so whatever

take 2, lead by the developer who designed theif 3's cradle and bioshock's fort frolic
On the other hand, having the person in charge of the Dark brotherhood quest line didn't really help FO3. And Harvey Smith of Deus Ex 2 infamy was fairly important in the development of the first one

That ending, while keeping the same general idea, is by far and away superior to the way the game actually ended.

It blew its load far too soon and then had no emotional impact afterwards.

Your mistake was seeing them as anything more than a game mechanic. :P

This. I like this.
Thanks for linking this, I love you forever.
It's alright, though I don't like the fact that it's very likely that Little Sisters will die during the final fight.
Also, what's to stop you from breaking the Vita-Chamber during the fight?
Could be inaccessible.
On one hand, it makes sense from a gameplay perspective.
On the other, it would be so annoying.
Well, when you think about Bioshock, a lot of it is fucking annoying.
Well yes, but I don't think that would fit with her characterization.

Also, here is the first(?) multiplayer video.

Are we to believe that you can palm a child like that?
Yes. You are a Big Daddy.
edit: well, maybe not in multiplayer, but still, look at his hand compared to the little sister. You must just be really strong.
The character you play as clearly has years of experience in performing child abuse.

GLORY TO THE MANY
Oh, phew. I thought you may have been talking about one of the other 4 development studios who have their hand in the broth.
On the other hand, having the person in charge of the Dark brotherhood quest line didn't really help FO3. And Harvey Smith of Deus Ex 2 infamy was fairly important in the development of the first one
Also is a splicer who has extra strength from genetic manipulation and being crazy.
BioShock fans ought dust off the ol' phonograph for the release of BioShock 2's special edition package, a gorgeous collection of unnecessary goodies that is music to the ears and a feast for the eyes.
And at $99.99 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, $89.99 for Games for Windows LIVE, it's no small dent in the wallet. But the lovely package you see above comes with all these wonderful things. Even a copy of BioShock 2 itself, if you can believe it!
* BioShock 2
* Vinyl 180g LP featuring the orchestral score from the original BioShock
* CD containing the BioShock 2 orchestral score
* A 164 page 8"x11" hardbound artbook chock full of developer commentary
* Three posters featuring vintage ads from Rapture (rolled)
It will ship the same day—February 9, 2010—as the common version of BioShock 2. And 2K Games' Cult of Rapture site says the package is "limited to a single production run" if that lights a fire under your preordering habit.
