Is that different from the console exclusive suits?
If anyone gets an extra code by chance, can I have it?
Yes, I think it's actually the same as the suit you can buy in the Marketplace/Online store. Basically it should just be a code to download that suit for free.
An animated prequel to the game, Downfall tells the story of the Ishimura before the Necromorph infestation. It is expected to release on DVD and BluRay on October 28th.
Bonus features include:
- Two exclusive codes for the game.
- Deleted scenes.
- Soundtrack.
- And a digital copy for BluRay owners ONLY.
Nice, I didn't realize Downfall included all that. I'll definitely be picking up the Blu-Ray then
Hell yes. This will even be my first ever Blu-Ray purchase ...
I replayed the opening on Hard. In Hard mode, enemies take more hits to lose limbs or outright die, they sidestep your shots more, you lose more health when damaged, and the ammo is much more sparse.
Ideally this would be perfect for this sort of game, but the lack of ammo is the real problem. More than once I'll run out completely, and I got to a part where two of the enemies are surrounding me, and I can't in any way find a way around them without dying. Also I think some doors stay locked until you clear all enemies in the room.
So I guess I'll do a whole run on Normal first. It isn't as easy as some people claim, though, since you miss more often on account of aiming for limbs and pincers instead of torsos and heads.
Is Isaac the same main character from the animated comic? If he is, wouldn't he already be aware that the Ishimura is full of those creatures, and what the cause is for their existence?
Also, way to give those creatures a lame-sounding name. They should have just left them nameless and let people choose to call them zombies or aliens.
I call them zombaliens.
uh no. Isaac isn't the same guy at all. The lack of ammo is because you're not conserving enough, or, you need to use kinetics or melee more.
And Necromorph is sorta the scientific name, what with that being the point. They morph corpses into the alien forms.
Yeah, that's what I figured. Do they say what happened to the other dude? Also, what does the animated movie cover?
As for ammo conserving, I was in a situation where my ammo and stasis were tapped out, and I was literally boxed in by two of the necromorphs (I still like zombaliens better).
I'm conflicted. I partly like the lack of ammo on hard, since it gives it an RE vibe.
But in all honesty, does the difficulty ramp up steadily on Normal, or does it remain the same throughout?
It ramps up. It ramps up on every difficulty, the only difference between the difficulties is how tough the enemies are and how much ammo they drop.
I'm by no means squeemish, but something about the gore in this game is pretty unsettling for me. I think it's the gooey crunch sound effects.
What was the Saw guy's involvement on this game? I know he made a trailer, and he also talks about it on a sci fi special, but did he do anything else?
Also, I had no idea the Saw dude was asian. That's pretty odd considering the style of the movies.
As in, MTV cutaway shit versus spooky asian ghosts with huge mouths.

Hey do you guys know that you can shoot the glowing boxes to get ammo? And open crates and lockers and stuff. Because my problem is usually my inventory gets too full and I have to leave ammo lying around. I'm on chapter 6, medium difficulty.
I started Ch.2 last night at 3AM, right before going to sleep. It's strange but I'm not finding the game all that scary, but it makes me tense as hell. I'm always waiting for some shit to go down and half the time nothing actually happens so I'm just constantly on the edge of my seat gritting my teeth.
I walked into one area, everything was clean and shiny white I'm thinking "This is a set-piece. I'm about to get motherfucking set-piece'd!"and then there was a big fight not too far after.
My only complaint, and it's probably intentional, is the non-adjustable camera. I'd really love to move it back about 5 ft. so I could see what was actually going on half the time. However, then I'd miss out on shitting my pants every time I suddenly realize there's a freaking zombie RIGHT behind me.
The game is making me enjoy survival horror in ways I didn't think were possible.

Or you can conserve ammo by stomping on the boxes. If they're out of reach use kinesis to draw them close, then stomp - if they're in zero g, draw them close with kinesis, then swing your weapon to break the box.
Kinesis is also great for grabbing out-of-range items. Once I saw some items through a hole in a wall and snagged 'em with kinesis, I went around the corner to the door of the room and discovered I'd have to waste a power node to have gotten in there.
Kinesis is handy!
But yeah, don't shoot the boxes. Step on 'em.

Yeah, that bugged me at first too, but you get used to it. It helps with the tensions.
It also bugged me that you couldn't switch which shoulder you're looking over, but I guess that would sort of ruin some of the UI.
I wish I had an awesome Dead Space avatar and signature...
Anyway, yeah, just reached Chapter 7 and reached the first save point before turning it off. It was a damn good run, though there were some tense moments.
Chapter 6 Spoilers:
During the Leviathan fight, was there something special I was supposed to do when it came to the tentacles that slammed down and then slid across to hit me? I never had a chance to do anything, so I don't know. Plus, I wasted time trying to catch those damn sacks before realizing they didn't really do much of anything and they were damn hard to grab with Kinesis anyway.
Also, I definitely think after I finish this I will do another run through with the Plasma Cutter. The Plasma Cutter is boss.

I know when the tentacles come out you're spose to shoot the big yellow sacks. I have no clue what I was spose to do against the mouth, I pretty much unload everything I had into it and shot the sack things back at it for a good half hour, think I finished with like 5 rounds left.
I checked to see if my local rental store (Hollywood Video) had this in, and just like mentioned in the last thread, not only was it not in, but they didn't even have any record of getting it in the future.
Bah, some games get bought in the next few months, and some get rented. Why must my decision become that much harder?

In regards to the tentacle sliding, you can use the micro-gravity jump to get out of the way when it slides.

Shoot the big yellow sacs to destroy the tentacles, then after it starts spitting different, explosive ones at you, you'll have a window. If you unload on the "mouth" in the window, you'll kill it a lot faster. Like I said earlier, I only had to face one round of those tentacles.
I think the only thing that could improve this game right now is if the load times were a bit shorter when you die, but I'm hoping in a month I can just load it to the hard drive.
The Plasma Cutter is my favorite weapon ever...I just wish I found more ammo for it. I also bought the rifle but haven't gotten a chance to properly test it. Holding off on the flamethrower since I read somewhere it was meh.
I also finally died, Ch. 2 spoilers
When I entered the morgue and saw some weird shit going on behind the glass I thought "Hey! It's unbreakable glass, I'll take me a closer gander!" Then the black zombie busts through, nearly killing me, and by the time I retreated the devil glider (yeah that's what I'm calling them) had inspired two more corpses to join the feeding frenzy. Next go I took out that damned glider right off the bat. Easy.
It's sort of sad. At the beginning and the first few Chapters, you get incredible amounts of Plasma Cutter ammunition. But then later on, when you really start appreciating what a great weapon it is, they start giving you less and less ammo.

You get ammo for the weapons that you have equipped. So the more the weapons you have, the more varied ammo there will be. A big reason why I only used 3 weapons.

I thought that might have been the case, though I wasn't entirely sure since, from time to time, I came across the odd Pulse Rifle and Ripper ammo and I haven't purchased those.

Ya... I had that happen to. I kept getting so much ripper ammo for the longest time and as soon as I swapped it out, all that ammo disappeared. The loot is randomized, so I guess it leans to the ammo you can use.
I'm considering selling my flamethrower at this point, I kept it for swarms but the pulse rifle does that job better and with less ammo
I'm still pretty early in the game, but all my upgrade nodes so far have gone towards either HP or into the Plasma cutter. I bought the rifle, but honestly its pretty meh except for those tiny little bastards that swarm up.

I love the rifle because ammo builds up so quickly for it, and it's great for long-range combat or keeping a crowd at arm's length

True, but its really hard to remove limbs with it.
I use the Cutter as much as possible, but around chapter five the ammo started to dry up. Meanwhile, I was drowning in Ripper and Pulse ammo, so I use the former for primary a lot, and the latter for crowd control.
I haven't bothered with anything else, really. I keep ammo for the Line gun for mini-bosses and the like.

So... beat'd. Awesome. Wonderful. You know a game is tip-top when you finish it, and immediately want to go back to playing (on hard this time, without the DL RIG). Don't open this spoiler unless you too have beat'd it:
I guess I didn't like how when you start workin' for the Hive Mind and doing what your dead girlfriend tells you to do, you're still being attacked by Necromorphs. I mean sure, as gameplay it still works - but in terms of plot - I'm helping you now, I'm bringing you back your marker. Why are you trying to kill me? Who's going to pilot that goddamned shuttle if it's not me?
Also, that very, very, very end part after Isaac finally pulls off his helmet?
...scared the CRAP outta' me. Very well done. Excellent game. Can't wait to play it again - so I won't.
Ciao.
So...
Care to tell me what he looks like without the helmet?
Has anyone beaten the game yet? Does anything cool unlock?
EDITED AND FIXED Answer, endgame obviously:
Aside from 10 extra nodes and 50,000 credits, the only new unlocks are a level 6 "Military Suit" and the "Impossible" difficulty. I couldn't tell you how much better the armor is statistically, but it does look pretty cool. Kinda like a clone trooper from Star Wars. And keep in mind two things: the DLC armor is level 5, and you actually have to buy the military suit (99k).
I also must air a grievance: It both saddens and frustrates me that the New Game+ doesn't allow a difficulty change. Which means I'm getting my 'upgrade all weapons/equipment' and "One Gun" achievements on medium.

If by RE you mean RE4, and add a pinch of The Thing and Alien, with a heap of System Shock 2, then you are correct.
I describe the game to friends as (Alien + Event Horizon) x The Thing.
If you have seen Event Horizon you know what I mean...

I have a habit of running into corners (to protect my back) when entering areas that look like trouble. Aside from the 'devil glider' attaching itself to my face before I could shake it off and stomp the shit out of it, I dispatched them with my cutter handily.
Where'd you find it and can you get a higher res pic?
EDIT: one more quick thing that I feel is worth mentioning: I can't think of a recent game that's been so well made, technically speaking. The only (and I mean ONLY) glitches of any measure I've seen through 1+ playthroughs is some minor wonkyness with the ragdoll physics, which will happen with Havok, and minor clipping issues with the slicers and their blades. No crashes, no freezes, no texture pop or draw distance pop. Was this engine in-house? they need to share that shit with everyone else in EA. It's a masterwork. Blows UE3 out of the water.

In chapter...6 I think?
While you're hunting the gas exhaling things in the Hydroponics area, right after being tentacle grabbed and before you enter the Zero G area, there's that sign on the wall.
