What does the download armor do? I think I have it and now I can't buy any other armor, stating I already own it.
Which download armor? The free one? Cause the free stuff I never used, I just left it there with all its 0 costing glory. I was able to upgrade from level 1 to level 5 though with no problems so I dont know why its telling you that.

Just checked it. The free download armor is level 5 armor, colored based on your console. PS3 is black armor; 360 is White armor with Green facelights.

Badass. I think Id like the black one more but eh, alls well, Dead Space is all kinds of fucking amazing.

Early game its a huge help (since you get full inventory space for free) but late game is actually a bit of a handicap - the DLC armor has less armor than the normal level 5 armor (although I think its only the difference between like 10% and 15% - someone correct me if I'm wrong) and you can't switch from the DLC armor to the normal armor (although you can switch between the DLC armor and the level 6 armor that unlocks after you beat the game)
All I can say is that EA must have hired the worst developers in history to port it over to the pc, and then hired the worst game testers in history to test it. I mean, do they hire actual gamers or not? If I wanted to use a gamepad to play Dead Space, I would've bought the console version, wouldn't I? What fucking twats thought that not giving us something as basic as the option to change the controls was a good idea? I don't have a 360 or a PS3 for a reason (I hate, hate controlling fps and third-person games with an analogue controller) and I don't want to spend money on a game that forces me to do so. Yes, I have a 360 controller hooked up to my pc, but I use it for platform games and space sim games (Freespace 2, X-Wing Alliance and such) and I don't want to ever have to use it with a first or third-person game.
You complete and utter fucktards, EA. That's fifty euro I'll never get back.

Yeah I downloaded it just because it was free. I wanted to use it but I also didnt want to spoil the fun of the game and be a tank with a nasty inventory so early on. So I just left it there because...well, I like to have a normal run through before I am a cheap bastard like that.

So with the $3 coupon that came with the game and a $20 certificate, I was able to buy Downfall and the original Alien for a grand total of $2.23 at Best Buy today
After playing a bit I'm pleasantly surprised by the PC controls after turning off v sync. I'd heard nothing but horror stories about it but really its fine. Hard however is pissing me right off, it seems like if I ever kill something with even 1 more shot than the minimum required to put them down I might as well restart from my last save because i'll be fucked and attempting to punch things to death the next time I run into anything. There was more ammo in the original resident evil games where they expected you to run away form everything than there is in this

I was originally carrying the Plasma cutter and Pulse rifle, but then I was getting too much pulse rifle ammo (a plasma cutter ammo pickup is 6 whereas it only takes 4 shots to kill a basic necromorph, while the 25 rounds of a pulse rifle pickup won't kill one) so I stopped carrying the rifle. Now with just the cutter I still find myself in positions where none of the enemies will drop fucking ammo and I end up needing to punch a few to death to get some.
Regarding ammo, are you stomping on the green boxes with the green light?
Took me half-way through chapter 1 to figure out those were containers with supplies.
I'm currently up to chapter 6 on my first play through. Playing on hard and doing plasma cutter only run so I can fully upgrade my cutter, rig, and stasis.
Yeah the green boxes on the floors, and all the little cabinets, lockers, and wall boxes with the white lights on them. There's a lot of ammo to be had in those.
My theory is that the Hive Mind is a separate third-party entity, since it needs the marker to protect itself from the Necromorphs.
Again, at toward the end of the game, it's revealed that the Hive mind is controlling the actual Necromorphs. The marker is there to PREVENT the necromorphs from spreading, holding them in place. Once the MArker was removed from the planet, the Necromorphs started spreading. The power of the Hive Mind probably got stronger as the MArker was further from him (on the ship instead of right next to it on the colony).
I've been smashing everything green, opening all the white lockers/cabinets and saving nodes to get me into the node rooms, the node rooms are all that have been keeping me alive, but just barely. The only thing I can see that might keep me going is spending every credit I have buying ammo at shops..but that leaves me with..well..nothing for upgrades. I'm only on chapter 3 now, but as I mentioned earlier i've basically been playing "every shot has to be perfect or restart from the last save" and i'm still in these dire straights.. I don't get what i'm doing wrong since other people don't seem to have this problem =(
Yeah you almost have to be missing something.. I'm not feeling nearly the ammo pinch you are.
I'm in "Lethal Devotion", and once again....

I just knew reading this thread would reveal something about the gameplay I didn't know before. In other games, carrying as many weapons as possible is generally a good thing. I didn't know that the ammo given to you in Dead Space applies only to the guns you are currently carrying.
So now, I guess i have to find a store, and sell off some items or even a gun or two. I have the Plasma Cutter, Pulse Rifle, Ripper, and something else.
I'm getting my ass handed to me due to ammo pinch. Good thing I've been keeping as many save games as possible. I'm going to have to replay some areas... again.

But assuming that the Nicole illusion/hallucination/creature/whatever is a Necromorph or controlled by them, why would they fight so hard to get the Marker back on the planet if it would kill or release them all?
Unless that's the point? Perhaps undeath is so horrific that while craving flesh and to spread themselves about, they have an equal or greater desire for eternal rest once more?

I beat the game on hard in this situation, but I had to try several rooms over and over. Namely:
The zero-grav room after at the beginning of chapter 7. I ran to the left, stasised the fat necro, and ran to the center of the next bridge and just unloaded on everything in either direction - sappers in particular.
The return to the bridge deck to repair the comms dish. I started with only 4 rounds for the contact beam. I had to try that... like 8 times. =(
The barracks / sleeping quarters on the Valor. Oh man.
Even with saving one node for a node room at all times, I still managed to max out the cutter, and upgrade my suit to near-maxed HP. Be sure to use legs -> stasis -> stomp.
One other question, i've heard ammo drops are based on the weapons your carrying..so why do enemies keep dropping line racks when i do not, nor have i ever owned a line gun?

It's not based on what you're carrying, but the ammo drops seem to lean towards those types.
I got plenty of line racks and ripper blades and whatnot too, but FAR less than cutter and rifle ammo, which were the two weapons I was carrying.

Oh but wait...
What if Nicole is NOT an hallucination produced by the Hive mind and the Necromorphs? After all it makes sense since the Hive Mind got destroyed at the end of the game and still, Nicole shows up at the very end with Isaac in the shuttle.
A few possibility:
- The hallucination produced by the mark itself. So the marker wanted to return to the colony to "block" the Necromorphs.
- What if Nicole is her own entity completely stranger from the Necropmorphs and the Marker with it's own agenda. It was at first orbiting over that scientisit who wanted to return the marker to the surface but as soon as he got killed by Kendra, we started seeing Nicole more and oh suprised, she ALSO wanted to return the marker to the surface. I'm starting to think that the Scientists lover (I forget his name) is also the same entity that decided to impersonate Nicole to lead Isaac and the marker back to the surface of the colony.
Yeah you almost have to be missing something.. I'm not feeling nearly the ammo pinch you are.
Gamefaqs (or was is 360a?) says you can just put the guns in storage, not sell them off, to get the ammo effect for the guns you're currently carrying.
No, I had to sell them. 750 credits, and no ammo, for anything.
So I sold some stuff, and I'm only carrying the Line Gun and the Plasma Cutter now. I have two line racks (!), and a shitload of rounds for the cutter. Oh, and my Stasis has a single shot left. That's it.
It's the room where you
meet the regenerating thingummy the first time, after the doctor talks to you through the window in the Clinic.
One of those + three Slasher types in the same room + one single Stasis shot left + locked door until they all die = sadness.
I don't know how I'm getting past this one. I'm starting to expect I'm going to die.
The other alternative to low-ammo situations is to just use the ripper. :P
It's rarely low on ammo, and is good for keeping things at bay. Not quite as good as the pulse rifle in that respect, but the ripper has better, er... kill control, I guess. You have a better sense of where your attention is directed, as opposed to... ALT FIRE, OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIT.
And playing through the game with the cutter/line gun/ripper/contact beam, the only non-usable ammo I ever got was maybe 2 pickups of pulse ammo, and a pickup of force energy.
edit: Now that I think about it, the ripper lasted me most of the game with only a few upgrades. I vault'd it around chapter 11, so I could start stocking ammo for the end of the game. As it turns out, they
just throw a bunch at you, and there are exploding canisters and crates there just in case.
Perhaps the something Nicole injected herself with slowly turned her into a necromorph?
I think she just killed herself. Lethal injection, hey. But it's possible. Planted by the crazy-doctor (the one with the regenerator)?
Something else that occurred to me - how does the hallucination-Nicole access the console in chapter 7 to get you to the beacon? Can the marker access electronics without being wired into them, as suggested by the monitors throughout the game with Nicole on them, the radio message from Nicole early in the game, and the door opening.
It could also be a trust build-up for the marker to be able to persuade you later in the game. However, the blockout of Kendra's communications with you during that portion of chapter 7 seems to suggest the former.
Then again, why can't you see Kyne's wife, while he can? Do the hallucinations reinforce the marker's meddling in the computer systems, or are they simply hallucinations to persuade you? Nicole's info must have been in the Ishimura's computer systems, which would explain the marker knowing about her - is it intelligent enough to draw the connections between Isaac and Nicole based on computer records (ie, of her sending the message to Isaac)?
The evidence is there, but the HOW isn't. Weird stuff. o_O

I'm really not sure about the console stuff myself. Either it was all just an illusion and the door was really open the whole time, or the image of Nicole really was interacting with the computer somehow to unlock the door.
The fact that several waves of necromorphs show up and focus on Nicole would seem to indicate the latter, though not necessarily.
As for how the marker knew to use Nicole to communicate with Isaac, I got the impression that it seemed to be able to see inside the target person's mind, and give them visions of someone they care about, maybe the person they most want to see. Kyne with his wife, Isaac with his wife, and even Kendra with her brother, though she proved cynical enough to simply ignore that one. (Also, several people in the prequel comic saw visions of their own dead loved ones.)

You didn't notice?
At the start of chapter 10, when you see the crazy doctor killing man tied to a chair by ramming a knife into his head. That guy is Temple, the engineer, he even calls him that. On the floor next to him lies the female doctor, already killed.

guessed it might be him. couldn't hear the doctor well at the start, since i loot more than pay attention and hide in a corner. I thought maybe the girl is the one who shoots herself in the head later, probably because the guy's dead.

I felt sorry for Temple. He did a hell of a job surviving and even managed to meet up with the doctor lady who was in trouble. He's basically you except he got suckered by the evil doc.
As i am a complete wuss i was wary of trying this, but recent Zombie Panic source gaming with PAers gave me some courage. I am an hour through and LOVE THIS!
Bring it L4D.

Did you guys know that there are some writings on the wall that basically translate the symbols you see everywhere into normal letters?
So if someone wanted to invest a lot of time and effort, they could effectively translate all the strange writing into text.

Unless that's the point? Perhaps undeath is so horrific that while craving flesh and to spread themselves about, they have an equal or greater desire for eternal rest once more?
Chasing us about at one moment while asking us for help at another (or hell, at the same time)?
Edit: Ooooh, what if it's like the end of The Ring? Where she's hugging her son, and saying it's okay, that she's helped Samara, and the kid freaks out? Why did you help her? You weren't supposed to help her! *ominous crash of thunder*
I beat the game on hard in this situation, but I had to try several rooms over and over. Namely:
The return to the bridge deck to repair the comms dish. I started with only 4 rounds for the contact beam. I had to try that... like 8 times. =(
The barracks / sleeping quarters on the Valor. Oh man.
Even with saving one node for a node room at all times, I still managed to max out the cutter, and upgrade my suit to near-maxed HP. Be sure to use legs -> stasis -> stomp.
It's not based on what you're carrying, but the ammo drops seem to lean towards those types.
I got plenty of line racks and ripper blades and whatnot too, but FAR less than cutter and rifle ammo, which were the two weapons I was carrying.
Oh but wait...
So many possibilites...

Weird stuff. o_O

You didn't notice?
or someone thats psyched about getting the game i.e ; me
Bring it L4D.
So if someone wanted to invest a lot of time and effort, they could effectively translate all the strange writing into text.
Probably some cool stuff in there.
