They always show stuff that they really shouldn't.
I believe it was the RE4 review in which they showed the last fucking boss. I mean c'mon.
I watched 80% of it just now, and shut it off due to idiocy and factual errors. For example, they say the inventory not pausing the gameplay is nerve wracking, and a hotkey to access health items would be nice.
Perhaps it's just my disk on the PS3, but the square button will let you pop a health item without opening the inventory. Also:
DON'T WATCH THAT REVIEW, IT CONTAINS SERIOUS SPOILERS
Seriously. Some of the most impressive, surprising, or visually impactful sections of the game are covered in that review. So if you'd rather see 'em in a review before you get your hands on the game, be my guest. For those who've played the full thing, here's a few [ spoilers ] I noticed:
-the tentacle grab
-the leviathan fight
-the first brute's entrance
Those jerks.

oh, dammit .i just found the key to the alien code on one of the billboards. now i have to replay the game and translate everything.
Oh snap... I am going to replay the game and I am interested in finding the translations to things....I missed the code though... can anyone point me somewhere where I can pick it up?
The gametrailers review is only going to further confuse people who don't know about the one button health pack thing. Is it really that hard to read the manual?
PSA: Stasis field + ripper primary fire = uncontrollable giggles as the opponents do cartwheels and lose all their limbs before they hit the ground. I think I have a new favorite weapon, and an actual reason to update my stasis rig now.

It's not just in the manual. One of the tool tips in chapter one tells you about it.
After the crazy doctor rushes me with the regenerating Necromorph, what do I do? Just escape, by rearranging the beds?
That's what I did. Just keep moving and make sure to disable (dismember/stasis) the Super Necromorph often before running away and taking on the other baddies in the area. Just watch out for those damn uber Necrobabies, they'll take plenty of inopportune pot shots at you - usually at the worst possible time.

Correct.
Shoot one of the uber-necromorph's legs out and hit him with a stasis field for a bit more leeway, then book it back to the beds and lock him in. However, he will start using the vents. You just need to keep moving and follow your nav.

I finally managed to pick this up and give it a good spin tonight...it's nowhere near as scary as I was hoping, but is nonetheless fun. I can't believe there hasn't been another RE4 style game since RE4, and it's nice to get back into the action. Amazing visuals don't hurt, either.

I rented this tonight from Blockbuster. I got the ONLY copy in the store (not the last one, the ONLY one). Only got through Chapter 1 on Medium so far, but I'm digging what I'm seeing. Digging it HARD.
This game is pure condensed terror atmosphere. As someone who had a hard time forcing himself through Resident Evil 4 due to me being a coward (fucking giant invisible ceiling-crawling acid-spewing bugs light off FOUR of my biggest phobias), this is going to be a hard game for me to power through, especially at night. Thank god I have Saints Row 2 around so I can feel powerful and light-hearted after getting my knuckles whitened by Dead Space...
And on a side tangent, why is it that someone like me, who loves horror movies, laughs and cheers at great gore and can sit through all kinds of creepy movies, turns into a blubbering pansy when the videogame I'm playing goes all horror on me? Does this whole "unfazed by scary movies, fucked-up by scary games" thing happen to anyone else?

It absolutely does, because it happens to me. I think it's the level of interactivity that makes it more creepy/scary/unsettling or what have you.
But then again, my stomach lurches when I drive a vehicle off a high perch in games; am I alone in that?
I'm not totally unfazed by scary movies, but I definitely have a tougher time with games. I still am pretty much incapable of playing Silent Hill games, and after playing the demos for Condemned 1 and 2, I decided that buying them at any price wasn't worth it because I'd never be able to handle playing them.
Resident Evil games have never bugged me, though, because there's not much psychologically going on in them, and even in the games before RE4 you are pretty much sufficiently powerful to be able to handle things even when they get the jump on you.
As a corollary, FEAR was a bit hard for me at times to push through because of its atmosphere, but the scares are generally non-threatening and you are 100% badass in that, too, so it was pulling me in my two opposite directions.

Nope. I almost threw up once when I accidentally fell off a building in Crackdown.

I just finished the game. Stayed up really late to do it, but did it nonetheless. Too tired to write much, I'll give some more impressions later, but I leave with just one bit.
Most cliche ending ever. I won't say anything more for those who haven't finished the game yet click the spoiler anyway. :winky:
I was unaware that there are 12 chapters in this game.
I am only JUST starting the fourth, and that makes me VERY happy. (it means I probably haven't seen ANYTHING yet, and i'm loving it so far) :shock:D::D:^:
So, which weapons are people going with in this game? I had my first opportunity to buy something other than the Plasma Cutter and I'm not sure what the utility of the other weapons even are. Normally the second weapon I buy would have "Shotgun" in the title in a game like this. What are people finding their preferences run to?
I've actually been sticking with the Plasma Cutter for my first playthrough, and just building it up.(and buying tons of ammo at the stores)
Subsequent playthroughs is where I will start using the other weapons, probably will use the DLC suit too for the PS3 then too.
I like to make my own replay value sometimes.:P
(Of course, the second the Plasma Cutter becomes not effective enough, I'll probably move onto a bit tougher of a weapon...not very far into the games as of yet)
I've been rocking the plasma cutter and line gun. Basically cutter for every day use, and the line gun for those moments when you get swamped by multiple guys. I'm only at chapter 5/medium, so things could change, but this has been working out really well so far.
I carry the cutter, force gun, and contact beam. Really, the cutter and force gun seem to be the only weapons I ever use, but I just got the charge on the contact beam down to it's minimum so I'll have to try it out one more time before I give it up.

If you're looking for a shotgun, the closest thing would be the Force Gun. Doesn't do that great of damage (unless you're at point-blank range), but it's got terrific knock back making it a great CQC weapon.
The setup I've settled on:
Plasma Cutter / Ripper / Force Gun / Contact Beam
Plasma Cutter and Force gun for disabling/slowing the enemy, Ripper and Contact Beam for doing massive damage!
For me the Line gun is just too close to the Plasma cutter with more expensive ammo, low clip size and a slow ROF. Does do great damage however, so I guess it's still pretty useful :P
The shooting range on the military ship. So much fun with some nice rewards. What is the highest level you can get? I got to 4 then moved on to explore the rest of the area.
I keep my force gun equipped now any time I enter an enclosed space. If something decides to try and get up in my grill they get some nice compressed gravity beams to the face. I've also gotten good at lobbing it's secondary fire at guys.
I wouldn't really use the ripper if there wasn't so much damn ammo for it. It works well on brutes and swarms of little guys I guess, since I don't have the flamethrower.
Hey guys, just so you know... you always get ammo for the weapons you're currently carrying.
At least this was my experience. So, you shouldn't be "stuck" with a gun because you're finding a lot of ammo for it. Just sell that ammo, get a few rounds for the replacement weapon and you'll start finding ammo in no time.
The Line Gun was my favourite weapon overall. I fully upgraded it by the end of the game. Nothing like being able to completely dismember a necromorph with just one shot. I had started upgrading the flamethrower for it's badass factor, but I found that I needed it during vacuum stages... so, I switched over to the pulse rifle to take care of those little buggers.

I think this game looks and sounds totally awesome by checking the reviews and following this thread. My only concern before buying it is if I will actually be able to play through it... I have trouble playing scary games but I'm intrigued by Dead Space anyway. I thought the Marines campaign in AvP2 was terrifying and I think Bioshock is scary as hell in many parts, so I'm just kind of split on whether I should get this or not... What do you think?
Hey guys, are the golden semi-conductors only good form cash, or can you use them for other things?
They go great on a ham sandwich!
...and for selling, I guess. That's it as far as I know.
They're only good for selling. I think their descriptor even says that they would go for good money in the store.
Chapter 4 and 5 comments:
HOLY SHIT do I hate the asteroid gun section. It took me 8 tries to get through it. Complete turn off. Luckily, that was quickly forgotten with the panic-induced chase through medical by the regenerating monster.

Correct.
Spoiler? Spoiler.
It lists all the chapters if you look at your records
There are 12.

Holy fuck, this game is wrapping up to be epic.
Tales of it, I shall pass to my children.

The vents man the vents! They're coming out of the goddamn vents!
I iz got millionz.
I just finished it. This game is fucking incredible.
EDIT:
SUPER GOD DAMN SPOILERS!
It is not the most unique story, but it gets a solid 9/10 BUY simply based on it's execution. Well worth 60$.

Yup. They basically exist to give you a nice chunk of cash, but at the expense of taking up an inventory slot till you reach a store.
