in opposite world news, i can't go to grad school at my alma mater because they won't accept alumni
so no grad school for me until the housing crisis is over
This is really common, schools won't hire alumni as professors, either. It's not a bad policy, I think, since it keeps people's education from being too ideologically incestuous. Sorry it's keeping you from higher higher ed, though.

Yeah, I can't disagree with the notion, it's basically just fucked me for who knows how long.

That really sucks. Like Scarlet said, it is understandable. But really does put you, personally, in a bad spot.
Don't grad programs usually assist in finding/funding housing?
Not usually. Most programs, it's basically like a job. They give you money and you can spend it as you like. If you want help finding housing, you either have to make friends fast or go to the local Craigslist.

Nope, grad programs usually give you full tuition and a stipend if you teach. But since I have no prayer of selling my house in Miami, I couldn't afford it anyway.
So to stop shitting on this otherwise exciting thread, what classes are you going to take, Cal?
My first step is to see which credits of mine will transfer over from my previous college experience. After that I will then need to check requirements for the local University's (UW) history degree and begin tailoring my education towards that. I will, most likely, be taking my core science and math credits.
I will probably be using some contacts I have with the history department to speak with some professors and ask them what they feel is the best education path for becoming a professor. Should I major in history with a minor in education? Should I dual-major? Is an education minor/major even worth it at the college level, as most of those programs are geared at high school?
That sort of shit is what I need to figure out. But, I have a few years to establish myself academically and figure it out, as I know 100% that I will be needing my core science and math courses.

Gotcha. That's a rough spot, Quoth. Hopefully it doesn't last for to long. Alternatively; you could always rent it out.
