It is always a good week when a new issue of Cassanova comes out.

While I'm not a big fan of The Authority, I'll probably pick it up on the strength of the creative team. It will be interesting to compare Morrison's take with Millar's.

I'm fairly annoyed that a large chunk of Fables continuity is being released as a one-shot hard cover.
I'm already buying two different series to keep up with the story, and now they go throw another $20 hardcover into the mix?

It wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't important to the story, but this sort of shit sucks.

How vital is it to understanding the ongoing series? I was under the impression that it was more or less a stand-alone anthology thing with different writers/artists doing short stories.

Also, with most of these hardcover books, a paperback edition usually follows at some point in the future.

From what I've read it ties in pretty heavily with the fate of the Arabian fables.
Considering what's happened in the last few arcs I'd say it's important.

Yeah, fuck all those awesome Fables books that are worth reading and buying.

Seriously, though, just wait to buy it down the road. Or cut some books that you're meh on with your weekly pull. That's what I'd do.

They were out of Birds of Prey, and I just couldn't justify buying Deadman. Someone let me know if there's a reference to Boston in it.

52 - Actually really good this week. Ambush Bug, J'onn, [spoiler:193a0182be]Mega Skeets[/spoiler:193a0182be] make a good comic.

Batman and the Mad Monk continues to be great.

    Catwoman was Catwoman

Flash picked up with the story, but damn is the art awful at parts. Particularly when Jay is in the frame.

Robin concluded the two-part story, with more information on Dodge.

Shadowpact was a bit off, to me. But I read it on the train while listening to obnoxious girls yell, so who knows

It's not that I can't afford it, it's that the practice seems like it's done solely to separate Fables fans from more of their money.
I'm all for minis and tie ins, but fucking release them as singles first.
Having flipped through this at the comic store I can see no reason why this couldn't have been a miniseries, or incorporated into one of the two ongoings they're already selling.

I picked up Wildcats and The Authority because mmmmmmmmmorrison compels me.

The Authority was interesting, but I sort of wish there had actually been an appearence by the Authority. I'm interested to see what he'll do with the premise of bringing them into the real world though, and Gene Ha could draw coffee cooling for 22 pages and it would still be gorgeous.

Wildcats was, uh, it was something. My only knowledge of them comes from the kids' cartoon version, so I had like no idea what was going on most of the time, and the computersex scenes were sort of silly. I don't think I'm going to stick around for issue #2.

Really? I liked Wildcats a lot more than the Authority. It was a lot more Grant Morrison. The art was kind of cringeworthy in parts, but at least the coloring hid a lot of the Jim Lee. Plus, there were too many manipped photos in the Authority. They kept sucking away my attention.

My store got in more issues of Planetary 24 and 25, too, so it was a very Wildstorm day. There's a lot more going on across the books than I initally thought.

Wizard's Comics and Collectibles (I created the logo and hand painted the sign. Woo!).

They have 3 locations in the Edmonton area and they have a file service that gives you a discount on your comics if you get more than a certain number of titles each month (I think it starts at 10% off for 10 regular titles). They also ship to a handful of customers which might be something to look into if it's more convenient for you that way.

If you talk to any of the guys (John/Matt/Kyle) at the UofA store (pictured below) or Jeff at the Sherwood Park store, they'll know who I am.

Also, not a single panel with a member of the Authority in Authority #1? That takes some fucking brass ones. Has that ever been done before?

I liked it a hell of a lot, although I'm a huge Ellis fanman so my opinion may not be worth much.

The new artist, Zzjlzz Jzlszjslz, is interesting. I don't think he actually bothers with pencils. I may not actually own another book with this much black ink in it. But it does fit the book, and it'll be interesting to see what Warren does once he's more used to writing for the guy.
