I've been playing through Leaf Green (player's choice ftw) and just fought mewtwo.

A combination of him being frozen and super fanging the hell out of him, and I caught it with a pokeball that i threw by accident. I thought that guy required the masterball?

In theory it does. It's capture rate is much higher requiring things like Ultra and Master Balls for a better chance. But you can still beat the odds. Mon Congrats, that's pretty awesome.

It is my considered opinion that I like 'Lord Chap Laddington" the best. Then you can say "Hello Lads!". Actually, you could just as easily say "Hello Chaps!" by that logic, but LCL just rolls off the tongue.

Emerald is definitely the best one but it's not required playing by any means. The Battle Frontier is amusing for a while but really you're probably safe just sticking with R/S.

When it comes to new Pokemon, I most aniticipate the new types. Sableye was really cool (Ghost/Dark) because he nullified three different attack types (Normal, Fighting and Psychic). Are there any awesome/unconventional Poke types?

    There's a Fire/Steel legendary(Semi-legendary, it looks like). And more Psychic/Steel.

Also, in LeafGreen, my team is kicking ass and taking names. I am plowing through the Psychic gym and my entire team is 38 overall, which is fairly odd for me, as I tend to have one overpower the others.

    Team:

    Jolteon
    Sandslash
    Charizard
    Pidgeot
    Slowbro
    Exeggutor

Yeah. This is also the first time I have all fully evolved Pokemon(I generally use Graveler, Kadabra, or Haunter for a loooong time...so it's new for me to be plowing through so...brutally.)

It's really fun. It's hard to explain. Nothing can fucking stand against me. This team is fucking excellect.

Although I'm thinking of removing Pidgeot for Dragonite. Y'know. Because I need more ridiculous levels of power.

Yeah, wow, that video didn't impress me too much either. If that's where it's going, I have to wonder why Genius Sonority is given license over and over again amidst fan disapproval.

The game looks good, and IGN says it plays pretty well. You see, I used to be really down on Genus Sonority until I realized that they are pretty much responsible for two of my favorite games ever, DQ V and DQ VI.

Considering it was online where people can pause for ages thinking of moves, that looked alright to me. As long as it gives some connectivity bonuses to the D/P games, like Stadium gave to Yellow, I'm buying it.

I like that style of battling for the Gameboy games, but for 3D battling where the animations are more elaborate and the pause between moves is more noticeable I'd prefer something like the first two (never played the latter) Monster Ranchers where it was all essentially the same, but with the illusion of an active battle that didn't seem turn-based even though it was.

Not only that, but the whole distance factor (the monsters could move close to each other or farther away, and close-range moves only became available when they were close and long-range only became available at a distance) added a whole new layer to the gameplay that I think is very necessary here.

Incidentally, are any of the Monster Rancher games on the PS2 good and, if so, which is best? I searched for a Monster Rancher thread but couldn't find one and do not feel like starting a new thread (though if someone else wants to, complete with pretty first post, it'd be pretty nice).

I won an auction for a regular GBA with four Japanese games and a charger for 42 USD. One of the games it brings is Pokémon Leaf Green + the wireless adapter. The other ones are Initial D, Excitebike and Pikapika Nurse Monogatari. I'm glad I got those games, even though the thing I was interested the most to get was the GBA in order to play Four Swords+ on GC withmy brother.

It should arrive in my mail next week, and I'm curious to see what Pokémon the Japanese cart has. I'd like to get a 3D Pokémon game to go with it (In Japanese, of course), so out of Colosseum and XD, which one do you recommend? Can you get Umbreon and Espeon on XD? Does XD require a lot of reading? (I can understand some Japanese, though)

XD does require some reading, and you start with an Eevee that you can evolve as you see fit almost as soon as you get it.

I recently got a Gameboy Micro and kinda want to play some Pokemon.... The last Pokemon game I played was either Gold or Silver, ages ago. I also played Red and Yellow on my Gameboy Color. But I basically missed the entire GBA thing; I went straight from GBC to DS. So I'm wondering which of the GBA games are the best basically....Should I go for FireRed/LeafGreen or R/S or Emerald? What are the main differences and which is the best.

FireRed/LeafGreen are Red/Blue with updated graphics and mechanics. Emerald is Ruby/Sapphire with the latest patch, so it all depends on whether you want to recreate your glory days or try something new and different.
    But don't bother with R/S...

People do use it, but there are quite a few ways to take it down (ghost/rock/flying/fire/dark attacks, poison, confusion, spikes, etc) It has its uses, though. Against computer opponents, the attacks the opponent knows are kind of all over the place, so it's hard to tell if they'll have any means of taking Shedinja down.

Not so great. Used properly, it can soak a huge variety of attacks, but even a single SE attack will kill it, and it's slow as hell and has a very narrow movepool. In the right hands it can be ok, but really, it's just one of those pokes thats not worth using.
