Can it be done? If so, how. I have a Macbook Laptop, and it makes a rather loud musical tone when I turn it on. Thing is, for example, today I was a bit late for class, and didn't draw any attention to myself, UNTIL I turned it on and it made the rather loud startup sound. So is an option to disable it buried in Preferences somewhere? Or do I have to live with it?
The easiest way is to just mute the volume before your shut down. If you forget to do that, I'm not sure. Google turned up this: http://www.macinstruct.com/node/138

Plugging in headphones before you start up might work.

I use it, but i like the startup sound, so I keep it nice and quiet.
