On another note: My level is up under the name: Jack McSack & the Spiky Stone of Doom. Go play! I'm quite proud on the mechanics, the fact that they're hidden from view unless I want them to be visible. My writing might not be as good as some of you guys here but hey, what can you expect from a programmer whose first language isn't even english. If someone manages to get stuck in the level let me know because I really tried to make that impossible.

Great level, Wyth. You did a lot of cool things with the physics.

Speed Racer - I get further every time, but I still haven't been able to finish your flying fortress level. That level keeps me on my toes. I feel like such a badass when I make the jump back up from the boiler room in one try. :)

I started a new level today. I'm just going to try to relax and do whatever comes to mind as I go.

I am surprised that that jump gives you problems! I didn't think it really would. I always have a harder time getting down the shaft than back up it.

Are there any places that you think could use a double checkpoint that doesn't already?

Random curiosity, how far have you gotten so far?

So I'm now trying to make a genuinely scary level. Which is hard.
Because its hard to make a scary level with challenging platforming.

So far there is little light, except for creepy candles and sudden lightning. And screaming.

You fall into a cage. There is a spotlight swinging back and forth. You notice you were not the first person to fall into this cage, but you will be the first to get out alive.

    :D

High Five! I'm also making a scary level. An English man with a top hot and Monocle checks into a hotel in the middle of nowhere, but he finds out this place is most definitely not his cup of tea.

Also Speed, in your level I got up to,
The part where you have to pass the rotating search lights on the gears. That place was tricky.

I actually just updated the level to put a double checkpoint on that section earlier today.

If it is any consolation you were really really close to the end!

I really like watching that "lousy" tag that someone stuck on my level shrink slowly.

Then again, I don't know if the "frustrating" tag is any better.

I played through the community level with a random today and let them take the lead, and they seemed to do fine except for the very last bit where I'd set a trap and they fell into it exactly as I planned. Lovely.

Well, it did during my first few runs. I would panic a little and try to adjust too much on the way up. Now I make it smoothly, and it feels cool, flying that far with moving danger so close on both sides.

Are there any places that you think could use a double checkpoint that doesn't already?

Personally, I'd make all of the checkpoints double, because of the size and complexity of the level. I don't mind replaying a challenging level, but I doubt the majority of level-browsing players feel the same way.
Random curiosity, how far have you gotten so far?

My last checkpoint was after the Robot Lincoln sign, and it spawned right on top of a small gear. I think it might have been where MetaHybrid was talking about, and doubling that checkpoint might be enough to get me through next time.

That is literally the very last obstacle before the final boss!

Though out of boredom I just tried to play through the level and Robot Lincoln is WAY too hard, and it's not even, like, hard-but-fair. I need to fix him up a lot. The main problem is that when you die, if I have you respawn right next to him, you'll die immediately after spawning, but if a spawn you far away from him, you can't see what he's doing to know how to dodge.

Can't you set up a camera and have it zoom out? Or is the spawn point to far away?

Yeah, Lincolns' got a camera attached to him, but if you're close enough for it to be active, you're too close to safely spawn.

I might have to come up with something like a small tank that follows the player around and has a spawn point in it. Having somewhere to take cover would probably make that fight a lot better anyway.

EDIT: Okay, the level's been updated. Every checkpoint is now a double-life checkpoint, and I tweaked Robot Lincoln so that he's actually, you know, beatable.

I shall go try your level speed racer. Wish me luck :)

EDIT: I really like the mood in your fortress level. All the cogs look awesome.

Unfortunately I'm very bad at it. I can't figure out what to do with the Pilot after I grab him back a bit. Nothing I do seems to be making me able to get past the Electron Piston part once I have him. And sometimes he breaks. So I gave up.

Also, I published my new level, its called Chaos.

Wait wait wait. The electric pistons didn't pull up to let you drag him through with no problem? Shiiit.

Where did he break for you? There's a 99% chance that wherever it was the door opened after he broke and I just forgot to attach a message letting you know for that particular point.

Damn....I feel so terrible, since I haven't really touched this game since the week of launch. I think I burned myself out on the beta, pushing 6-8 hours out of each of the last 2 nights before it went down, putting together and publishing my own level, only to not play much of the real game once I got it. Perhaps I will throw it in tomorrow and see if I can get that magical feeling I once felt for the beta.

Edit: Also, my name is SuperJumpMan if anyone wants to add me to their friend's list and have me try their level! I am open to any and all challenges. I need some inspiration to figure out what kind of level I'm going to make next anyway.

Ok, so I pulled him back through the part with four searchlights without incident, and then I was taking him up that next elevator and he got crushed by the sides.

The spiky obstacle was gone (covered with a slab) but the electric pistons were still going.

Sorry for making you have to go fix stuff :P

I couldn't get to the door because the obstacle with the electric pistons hadn't turned off and was impossible to get through.

You could fix it by making a little bit of a drop (too steep to carry the pilot over and you have to jump on him to get past) somewhere?

Okay, I know what happened with the pilot. You got him far enough to reset one of the switches that opens the door but not far enough to trigger the next one. It's a dead zone between the two areas that needs fixed.

This piston thing has me really confused though. That whole obstacle is rigged up to a set of pistons that pulls it out of the way that are triggered by the pilot's grab switch. I have no idea why they wouldn't trigger for you.

    EDIT: Ahah! Discovered the problem.

Oh god. I left LBP running and flipped my input over to the monitor to do some browsing, and my housemate walks in and we start talking. And then the idle animation for LBP of the Sackboy running forever kicks in but all I we can hear is the sound. And she looks at me in horror and I realise that the footsteps sound very much like the sound of vigorous masturbation.

And now I can't get that out of my head.

Sorry to bring more bad news, Speed, but it looks like the brig door with the bubbles behind it does not open now. This happened to me during both tries this afternoon, one that I just finished moments ago.

I still did not make it any further than the checkpoint over the small gear, and I think that part could use some tweaks. First, spawning right on the gear is stressful because you have to do a quick plane jump to stay alive, and those jumps get finicky when there is a moving part on any plane. Second, I think there should be a camera set up that shows both spinning light obstacles at once, so the player can recognize the pattern without using trial and error that drains lives.

To uninentional - Awesome work with the lightning in the custom level we played.

Hurrrrgh I'll fix the brig later tonight.

The spawn could use some tweaking, yeah. I'm actually surprised that those spinning cameras are giving trouble, though. The solution is actually pretty simple and, at least I thought, intuitive. You run through the first set of lights, then when you come to the next set you run backwards, then turn around and run forwards again. I just sort of figured that would be the natural reaction. All the same, it's no big deal to stick a camera there.

That makes sense. I probably did not think of it because, up to that point, all of the camera sections are passed by making one continuous run at the right time.

I made it to Robot Lincoln. Fantastic stuff.
I think I kind of beat him...but didn't? After hitting his hat a few times, I noticed that the steam disappeared, so I ran to hit the balloon release. After standing on the button for a bit, nothing happened, then I lost my last life to one of his projectiles. Did I miss something (hopefully not obvious - I may have accidentally skipped a text bubble up there)?

I'm not sure why the steam cloud disappeared. It's not supposed to do that until Robot Lincoln dies, which takes three hits. The Balloon Release button doesn't do anything until Robot Lincoln's dead.

It was a fun level, the only thing I would think of is putting some decoration in the back the background near the start. It felt a bit empty while walking to the mill and to the underground part.

    Thanks for the feedback!

The ghosts can be tough to defeat when on the same plane. I thought of making them shorter, but then I thought that being able to snag the brains from across planes balanced things out.

I agree about the emptiness. I planned to add a thin layer that created the illusion of small houses in the background, but I can't remember why I never went through with it. I was probably just eager to publish once everything worked, and forgot. If I ever make adjustments, I will decorate the background.
