This is something that has me confused. I'm working on a section of my level in a different crater on my moon. This peice is taking up a quater of my thermometer already. So I save it and bring it into the level I'm working on. When I place it, the thermometer barely goes up. Is this because things saved objects take up less room, or is my thermometer just acting crazy?
So I just picked this up, but I've only had about an hour or two to play but so far its already so much fun. I'm still getting the hang of the controls but I think I got it down.
I also just go the level editor mode thing and shall be crafting my very own death trap ridden levels in no time... I hope.
Also, my PSN name is Folandil. Feel free to say hello.

How is the local multi-player in LBP? Me and my fiance are getting a PS3 + LBP for Christmas, and we're looking forward to having some fun with this together. Is that going to be the case, or is it simply not made for two people in the same room to be playing together?

Its best played local multiplayer imo. Thats how my wife and I played. The only thing is some of the user created levels are only built with single player in mind, however this is the minority.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Nope. I made the section of my level in a crater that only contains one level template, and then pasted it in a crater that has four smaller templates in it.

It's probably because you're using a lot of the same materials. A texture only has to load once, and the only difference would be the amount of objects and their complexity.

Hey! I'll add you next time I play.
be warned, you might get assaulted with decorations between levels
About the thermometer thing: the thing that fills it up is the use of different stuff, not a lot of it. You can make a hundred shapes and object from one texture and the thermometer doesn't budge a pixel, same with stickers, decorations, music you name it. If you get a now thing *pop* half an inch on the thermometer. Take that in consideration when planning your level and if you need more room: eleminate some textures from your level with the material changer.
Different question: how does the cool levels thing work? Which games get on (or near) the front page? Is it based on play times? Hearts/plays ratio? rating? My level (Whoring out: Jack McSetback & the Spiky Stone of Doom) has a 5 star rating, near 1/2 plays to hearts ratio, positive tags yet only 25 plays in nearly a week.
I've seen more great levels with good ratings that have a marginal number of plays... In my opinion they should get near the frontpage. Does the search/sorting mechanism suck or do I have to be more patient?

Go look at the most viewed and most popular videos on Youtube. There's your answer.
Ah yes I see your point. A variation of the Greater Internet Fuckward Theory then?
If alone and invisible the human race seems to prefer the most stupid and simple entertainment they can get?
Wait a minute, my level has rockets (they're on a slow moving, balanced balloon but rockets are rockets right?)
EDIT: We should rename the thread title to "LBP: With rocket cars!" or something a bit more witty. This should get more people in the thread, playing and creating right?

Player behavior, like trophy-whoring or being too lazy to look past the first three pages, is a problem. But the larger problem is that the LBP community feels mostly adrift and unorganized, and Sony and Mm need to step-in with some solutions.
The user-generated content is presented terribly. Levels with drastically different goals are together on largely static pages. There should be separate planets for music/art, multiplayer challenges, trophy levels*, etc., and players should be able to recommend label (planet) changes to moderators. Also, pages should be shuffled regularly.
The news and highlighted levels sections would be improved if they showed any life at all, but giving good levels credit might ultimately mean presenting a simple list of levels that are maintaining a high ratio of positive tags and ratings per plays.
And the Play, Create, Share stats should work.
Sorry if this became a bit of a rant, but I think LBP is an excellent game that's spinning it's wheels. We're getting a $3.00 content pack before we're getting any community/interface updates to give the game a shot in the arm and motivate the people pumping weeks into making levels.
I forgot to mention that I published a new level earlier. It's designed for competitive multiplayer, and it's called "Bubbles at Dusk, Bring Friends." I just made it up as I went along and it's pretty brief. Give it a try when you're playing multiplayer.
Trophy levels wouldn't bother you, being on the "trophy" planet I guess.. I'd like to see a more Youtube like sorting sytem (combination of most viewed/best rated combined with last week/last month/last year/ever) would make quite a dynamic and effective system to convey new and good content to the players. MM needs to be quick at it though because if it takes to long the community might call it a day.
The plays on my level have been rising, but slowwly. My guess it that they didn't find it through the search system but by whoring it out here..
Is there no decent-sized LBP Community Forum out there? That really surprises me. I would have figured that a community would have sprung up out of the tubes should the devs have failed to provide it themselves.

True enough. I just hate having them in the current presentation because they eat up valuable real estate on early pages, but they represent the least creative efforts online.

The LittleBigWorkshop forum has a review system, but the queue for that looks like the season ticket waiting list for the Green Bay Packers. Plus it's a review board, where the power to promote comes down to a few individuals. It would be more fair and natural to do something in-game based on the ratio of positive feedback.
Sackbook was built for LBP networking. It received mixed responses before Sony had it taken down. I guess it may return.
Anything else I can find doesn't seem to have enough support to make a difference.
I hate when a trophy level pretends to be something else. I'm all 'this level looks cool' and then I play it and it fires me across the level into a sea of points bubbles and it's all 'TROPHY UNLOCKED' and I'm like GODDAMMIT I WANTED TO EARN THAT

Huh. Well, I just went poking around in the LittleBigWorkshop forums again, and I found a thread about improving the search functions. The OP is by the community manager, and it includes observations and suggestions similar to what we talked about.
Good to know Sony and Mm are aware of the issues. Hopefully we'll see fixes soon.
I was playing with three people who all wanted to know where I got my costume (it was the red devil outfit)
So we went to Frozen Tundra. And got to the 4P part without incident.
One of my teammates....was a moron.
He did not understand that if he was on the third dial, he must point it to the bullseye. SOMEONE WITH A MIC EXPLAINED THIS TO HIM THOROUGHLY AND REPEATEDLY.
I was in a hurry to leave, and was needless to say, quite upset that I was playing with this person. As soon as we got the stuff I left and went for dinner (my parents were kinda mad that I had wasted five minutes on this).
I just started playing LBP again (Trophy whoring; Yay 'Share'!) so news of the pack coming soonish is exactly what I need. All this for the MGS4 pack has me wondering what the pack with Sephiroth is going to turn out as.

I had a similar experience to that, though it was admittedly more light-hearted and accidental.
One of the level creators that I hearted opted to add me to his PSN list, and we ended up starting a 4-Player game with some of his friends to go and get Prizes. We got to that, none of us had mics, and yet we still managed to get the combination correct.
But we didn't notice for a few minutes. Finally a couple of us let go and walked over to where the door had opened and we realized we could go. It was awkward and embarassing. But still fun.
It seems that the individual costumes (minus Raiden) will be available, placing the incentive on getting the costume pack, and then there's the level pack.
I imagine it'll be the same thing as the level(s?) people got with the Kratos/Medusa/Minotaur code. (I guess? I didn't get it, and I have little to no idea how that worked out or what all it was, blah blah. I just thought there was a specific level as well from the GameStop commercials.)
The level pack will probably be the thing that adds the extra trophies (or a patch, but more likely the pack) as well as the extra content.
Then I hit the "release balloons" btuton
and the balloons released. And the ship fell apart (all to be expected I assume).
Problem: When we landed, we landed to the RIGHT of the end of the level. In between us and the end of the level was:
Teddy Roosevelt (Impassable)
The Lincoln Cart on its side, blocked by Lincoln's chair (also impassable).
couldn't win.
I was sad
If you want proof I'm not making this up, Mr. President's shirt is GREEN. and he has GLASSES WITH NO EYES.
He looks really nice actually
Great level, just fix the ending so next time I wont' end up crying myself to sleep
ALSO: am I the first person to get this far? I think I deserve an award.

That is odd that you got stuck to the right! But, you couldn't go up on the very back layer? Roosevelt is in front and The Horrififying Lazerseat of Lunarity is on the middle layer. I guess you'd have to jump over its back gun, but other than that, what's the issue?

I can't really remember, either something was blocking the back layer or there isn't one at that point? Maybe you could make a staircase to jump roosevelt?
Paintball gun? So awesome! They probably use that as a weapon for the Metal Gear levels to not be violent but this means we're getting a brand freakin' new game mechanic. I think somewhere on 1up they mentioned this new pack would be "game changing". This is pretty cool.
