He's a really good character. Especially when Peter David wrote his series'. Think how fun Nova is to read now. That is kind of what Captain Marvel was 7 or 8 years ago.
That sort of rings true. Hes like Alan Moore but without the his wizard ethics
Under that beard, Alan Moore may BE Grant Morrison...
that reminds me of Eric Holmes.
Eric Holmes is a Scottish video game designer, who worked on the well-received Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Eric figured that if he shaved his head and dropped acid, people would assume he was Grant Morrison and hire him to write comic books.
maybe get him away from bendis and let him do something cosmic and i'll care
I'd read a book about Noh-Varr getting tired of the Dark Avengers and going cosmic with the tutelage of the quantum ghost of Wendell Vaughn acting as his mentor as he tries to live up to the legacy of the original Captain Marvel.
I guess I just don't see the need for a returned Mar-Vell. Could this new Captain Marvel work if written by anyone but Bendis, who hasn't done a damn thing with him? Hell yes. Speaking of wasted opportunities, I loved how he held the Skrull Mar-Vell in SI and got that (movie hero) look like "I am going to be the greatest hero ever because of you" and then swooped in to turn the tide (or at least provide a second offensive) in the Central Park battle in classic movie bad-ass style. He could have been huge. He was by all rights a huge effect at the end.
And then... pftthbbbt.
The only neat thing he's done since is fighting Lyra in his pocket battlespace in Savage She-Hulk. That ruled.
I'm also willing to accept legacy successors, like Genis. Like Bucky-Cap. Like Noh-Varr, if that's what comes down to it. I'd just rather not take the chance. Like you said, it's been almost 30 years. People younger than this relatively old man here probably don't even remember him. And that's the other thing that bugs me because it doesn't really feel necessary because this isn't his time. There are other living characters who have potential. And I'd rather see that potential and its requisite heroism of a character becoming epic than succumb to nostalgia.
And I forgot Reed wrote that. What happened to him? Why does he make Ms. Marvel make me so angry
I don't know. I remember reading a CBR interview when he took over Red Sonja about how he's ended up doing this great super women heroes (He also wrote The Circle, which was swell and had a female protagonist). But ... They suck. But that's not for here. His Captain Marvel SI mini was good. I liked Carol in that. But ... Yeah.
He's a really good character. Especially when Peter David wrote his series'. Think how fun Nova is to read now. That is kind of what Captain Marvel was 7 or 8 years ago.
You know, this reminds me. I read somewhere that the original idea for the first Annihilation was it would be about Captain Marvel and the Inhumans, but this idea got nixed in the end.
They're all now Probationers, which is essentially a rank that means, "in training". These outfits are probably to show that.
The colors are the same as Rich's "Kid Nova" suit that Night Thrasher made for him when he was a rookie, so that makes sense. Now that Rich is running things, he's making sure everyone is a "Kid Nova" first .
Back in Annhilation there was a breakdown of different Nova Corps uniforms. Those look slightly different, but the ranks basically work on the number of stars on your chest.
Like at Cracker Barrel.
It seemed a bit gratuitous since there are only three ranks. And then there's Rich, who's just special.
Well, previews for Nova 29 and GOTG 28 are up. Both look pretty interesting, though I think the true high point of both of these issues is on the last page of the GOTG preview.

Dammit, his energy self was just fine. Did Marvel tell DnA "Hey, you're having too much change in the cosmic universe, stop that" If they make him all mopey and dark, I'll be a sad panda. Wendell is happy, like a human Cosmo.
It's not a bad redesign for his outfit either, reminiscent of the Del Otto Nova uniform during Annihilation.
Hey, the spiky looked worked for upgrading Rich, let's hope lightning strikes twice.
I think the shoulder pads are a bit much, but I like the rest, and I really dig the bracers.
I'm really glad Marvel's bringing Quasar back. Not because I have an attachment to the character, but because fans, in an attempt to have Marvel bring him back, sent a Quasar cake to the Marvel offices.
I have no idea if the cake swayed Marvel editorial, but I'm going to pretend it did. Like there was just one churlish Marvel editor whose cold black heart was warmed by delicious sheet cake.

If a cake can work for Wendell (which is brilliant), sending in some of those plastic Spider-Man rings that you find in those quarter toy machines would be a pretty smart idea.
When I was scouring for my avatar and sig, the thought occurred to me.
People often say "Pishposh! The Sentry is too strong! He should go to space."
Well, the same kind of applies to Jean, doesn't it? I mean, at least part of the reason they kill her half the time is because she's just too damn strong.
Do you guys think Jean could sustain a "career" of sorts in Marvel Cosmic, especially with the X-Men always have been so closely tied to it?
I'm not sure if I'd like it as much Jean being back and with the X-Men, but it's an idea. It's worked for Rachel. Though, what they would do with Rachel if Jean were in space, I have no clue.
Whenever she's in Phoenix mode she tends to kind of move into space. Probably because you can't have a being of that power causing that much destruction on Earth without positioning a big crossover around it, really. So you move her into space where you can actually wreak some havoc and have it stick.
I wouldn't mind seeing her as a main antagonist in an Annihilation style event, or as a key player in one as just the Phoenix. There's a lot of different angles and relationships she has with that corner of the universe, especially since I think a few of the X-Men she has really close ties to are still kind of floating around out there.

Having Pheonix become a cosmic character is an interesting idea, especially considering how juicy the cosmic scene has become of late.

Kinda looks knightish, which is the vibe they went with when Phyla-Vell took over the role. Don't mind seeing some of that seep back into Wendell.
It's a pretty good costume but personally i think they need to fix up the big golden belt thingy, the costume would look better if the red continued down where it is and he had a more traditional pant suspension device.

I haven't really read much about Jack Flagg outside GoG, but he seems like a good choice.
Much better then that whiny emo bitch Phyla-Vell.
God i'm glad she's not got the Quantum Bands anymore.

it's not bad, though
Really, I'm just happy to see Quasar back and, hopefully, awesome again.

Obviously you have to send a six layer wedding cake.
With little Spider-Man and MJ action figures on the top.

How much do wedding cakes cost? Someone start a pool for this.

I posit forth the completely separate question:
I know DnA have practically confirmed Vulcan and Black Bolt aren't dead, but have they given any time frame at all as to how long they'll be gone?
I wouldn't mind seeing her as a main antagonist in an Annihilation style event, or as a key player in one as just the Phoenix. so apparently somehow dark reign is connecting to realm of kings?
Who's the guy in the background?
Why is Quasar making Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and Wanda (?) evil?!
