EXP orbs never disappear unless you die or transition to a different region.
Still, if you are close to death do you fight on to try and survive or salvage what EXP orbs you can before you crumble?
You should just be able to walk over them to collect them as well as using RT to suck em in.
This is what I thought before I tested it out. Seriously, go try it. You will get more exp from the same fights with the same bonuses if you stop in the middle and pick it up. Experience definitely does expire.
It's not that it expires, it's that you can sometimes cheat the game's bonus XP system. It thinks the fight was over faster than it really was.

The gambling games are kind of lame. I can never win and do you win anything off of any of them? I heard something about a gamblers jacket or something?

See, this makes a little more sense, but wouldn't the sum total end up the same? If I get 10 exp at double bonus for one guy three times and 30 exp at double bonus for three guys, either way, I get 60 exp. However, what I've found is that depending on the overall length of the fights, the 30 exp becomes more like 20 or even just 10.

I don't know much about them, but I can tell you the only one I can win reliably at is the tower game. Screw spinner box.
As cool as guns are, I think L3 Time Control + L5 Inferno is ridiculous as a "die, just lay down and die" combo. It's the combo that got me through the crucible as all perfect, at just under 600s (598). I still use it to run the crucible for wads of XP. I am also fully tricked out for close combat, so when need to, I can still crack a skull or two, but damn hitting Time Control, then charging up a full Inferno, is a great way to just clear out an area.
I find magic too slow, once you get your physique(i think thats what its called..whatever makes you hit harder) and speed leveled up you can clear all but the biggest groups faster without it than with. (as an aside I cleared the crucible in 601 seconds using nothing but the red dragon, and that was before I had sub targetting or speed maxxed, because at the time it was soooo much better than my melee weapon)
on a completely unrelated note (very minor bloodstone sidequest spoiler)
i've been combing the stupid fucking treasure island trying to find the last treasure chest for a good 30 minutes with no luck, i'm about ready to go back to town and gut the fucker that gave me this quest like a fish and hope it cancels it
Lay the locations you covered on me. I probably have them memorized by now.

chest up the path, break bushes to the left
vault from that chest to the ship and get the chest there
swim out to the coast where some floating barrels are to the left, chest on a shore bit
back to shore, get chest in the back end of the beached ship
up the path, see the pretty waterfalls, just down to the ledge bit on the left, chest get!
dive down, get chest on land
chest in water dive spot close to the island
chest in dig spot
chest behind waterfall
follow path up, just down next to the cave to get a silver key
(i think there was a gargoyle up by the waterfall that the path passes by)
go through cave vault down to get chest there

Could be that you are getting hit and your combo is thrown off so that is the difference in your net xp. I really don't think it dissapears.

But Fable 2 has the worst UI I have seen in a game for about 5 years. I mean fucking christ. Everytime I want to use a potion I have to reload the menu? Over and over? And it takes a fucking age to load it up. I've had visual glitches, been stuck on the region screen and had to hard reset.
When Im equipping clothes every time I select a new category the avatar goes back to spinning around so I am constantly looking at the back of my character. Everything is slow. ARGH.
Other than that, just got to Bloodstone. Everything is super sweet. Lovin this game, bar the horrendous menu system.
I totally agree with your comment about the menu system, It's the one gripe I had with the single player game and the...
SPOILER
...choice I had to make at the end was a struggle, and a great finish.
However, if I gave the single player an 8 or 9, for anyone looking to purchase this for a co-op experience I would slice the score in half, at least. I am a big fan of co-op and as such I was massively let down by all the promise Peter M made about doing a "proper" RPG co-op campaign.

Guys, I keep betting on horse races* but I lose money. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
*there is no horse-betting game in Fable 2. I am making a point as to the uncertainty of gambling.
You can make a lot of money on the horse race game in San Andreas. Just bet all your money on the longshot and reap the rewards when he wins. If he doesn't, just reload and repeat.
Basically, save scumming is the best thing ever for shitty gambling games in most games.
Yes, but my point is that it is a gambling game. Firstly there are plenty of other ways to make money in Fable 2, so it's not your only means. Secondly, you are gambling. You are relying on chance and good fortune. Complaining that it sucks because you don't win regularly is beyond stupid.
Yeah, if you're getting different numbers of orbs, it's due to the bonus system. You can end a bonus for a fight in mid-R-trigger-vaccum, and then it'll assign a bonus, and then it'll assign a different bonus if you pull in orbs after that.
One time I got a bonus multiplier off just using potions in the middle of a town.
I wish I could test it (the xp loss) myself, but my Xbox 360's DVD-Drive decided today of all days to break on me, now I have to fork out a hundred dollars just to get it replaced.
Which is only made worst by the fact that Microsoft has my registered extended three warranty marked as expiring three weeks ago. Which doesn't make any sense to me because I made my Xbox purchase a year and half ago.
See, this makes a little more sense, but wouldn't the sum total end up the same? I'm saying - all other things including the bonus being equal - I net significantly more exp in the fights where I pause to collect than the ones where I just collect at the end. Besides, pausing to collect makes it a lot more likely to get hit, not the other way around.

Well I think the increase above normal is a glitch, maybe? Or the bonus scales down wrong, so getting it in those first moments is much better than 30 seconds later.
Is the trip to The Spire after The Crucible the point of no return? Is that where Bloodstone is? Am I missing something huge?
Or it could be that not all enemies have the same xp value.
orbs combine. And even when they don't, they don't disappear. I've had very long fights (hobbe cave) where I've never stopped to get the orbs and at the end they're most all huge orbs and they net the same xp as the little ones combined. Even orbs that fall off ledges that don't combine you can still pick up if you hold the button long enough to suck them in. I've knocked off dudes off cliffs at the start of a long battle and at the end they're still there to collect.
I have to wonder why the experience isn't just given to you and this orb nonsense is there at all.
To add another "challenge" to the combat, because no matter what anyone says, you do collect more exp if you stop in the middle of combat to collect it, making yourself vulnerable. That (admittedly very stupid) reason alone is why they have that system in place.

This is a good question.
It's by far not the first action/rpg to use an orb based xp system, it's just handled oddly.
Also I think they want combat to appear flashier even if you're not a will user. Hitting faces and having colored balls fly everywhere (:winky:) makes the system appear to be more dynamic.
Or something.
EDIT: Also frank shut the hell up. You keep saying this and have had several people point out you're wrong. Repeating yourself isn't going to convince anyone of anything.
Dude, calm down. I'm not telling anyone to "shut the hell up", but that is the way the combat system works. It's to make it more "challenging." It's retarded, but quite a few people besides myself on other forums have noticed this.
Now, is Bloodstone a place I can just stumble upon? Or do I have to do a quest first in order to find it?

I tested it last night. You don't lose orbs. It's one of those perception things, where people want to believe you lose orbs, so they constantly see "proof" that it happens. Humans love to convince themselves shit is happening when it isn't. Don't ask me why.
So, I'm pretty close to collecting everything. I think I have about 15 Silver keys (probably less) and 4 gargoyles left to go. I got the completionist achievement. I still have a couple achievements left to go, mainly multiplayer stuff, so I'm pretty much open to helping anyone out with their game while I'm online. Also - I've been getting the Garth doll if anyone wants/needs to trade.

Even if it is happening (and I haven't noticed it if it is), what does it really matter? By the end of the game, if you're doing a decent number of sidequests and beating up on the odd bandit or hobbe you'll be more than badass enough to beat the game.
It's not like the combat is hard, after all. A higher powerlevel is just set dressing in most cases.
Do you mean tattoos? I'm fairly certain the only tattoo achievement is the one for getting both a head and body one. And you can just find a tattoo guy, put them on and remove them without leaving the shop and you'll get the achievement and no dislike.

In terms of fighting, I've found the most effective method is to lay a level 1 skell summon and simply spam lvl 2-3 shock.
You might get clipped a few times but, with a ghoul aug, you can top up your health with the strays.
