If consider yourself frugal gamer (and who would blame you with two consoles launching in under a month) and were contemplating holding out on picking up Marvel: Ultimate Alliance on the 360 until after a price drop... ordering a copy from Play-Asia, for $43 after shipping, might be just what the doctor ordered.

The version being sold by Play-Asia lacks the copy protection that makes most games from other regions unplayable in American 360s. With the game still retailing for $59.99 plus tax at most major retailers in America, this can save you $17 dollars to put towards your future purchases this Fall. And that's something we can all get behind.

Story

Dr. Doom has formed a new Masters of Evil in order to steal Odin's power. They then launch an attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Nick Fury sends out a distress call to all available meta-humans. Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man and Wolverine respond and proceed to eliminate Doom's forces. The heroes then travel to various locations in order to stop Doom's plan and, of course, save the world.

marvel-ultimate-alliance-sc.jpg

Features

The game will have over 140 characters from the Marvel Universe appear. Players will be able to create teams, and have online and co-operative play, for up to 4 players. In co-operative mode players will have to fight for the most kills in order to get the experience points at the end of the level. Unlike X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, in which players can only play danger rooms that have been unlocked or single player progress, players can now play through the whole level from start to finish. There will also be special comic book missions, revisiting a moment in a character's past and facing a classic arch rival. Characters will have four skins, which can alter stats of the character, as well as unique controllable powers

Players will fight in mid air, underwater and on the ground, with fully destructable and interactive environments in over 17+ locations, travelling around the Earth and universe back and forth by the end of the game. The game will have alternative endings, affected by the decisions the player(s) make.

There will be exclusive characters for the PSP, Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Versions

The game is due to be released for 6th and 7th generation consoles, as well as the PC. The graphical engine and looks will differ between the various platforms. For the 6th gen consoles, characters models will be similar to X-Men Legends: cel-shaded and almost cartoonish. The 7th generation versions will feature more detailed character models and environments. The PC version will vary depending on the customization of a user's settings, though at the best settings, the graphics will be at least par with the 7th generation versions. The PC version will also feature "intuitive mouse controls". [1]

GBA

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance's graphics will be reduced to a lower graphics quality for the GBA version.

* Just like the other versions, players can switch between any character during the game. Players can also create their own team involving only 3 characters. Also, some characters will not be available on the GBA, such as Black Panther. [2]
* The same exact gameplay as in other versions; players can do major upgradings on characters and tactics, as well as build their reputation points.
* Exclusive to the GBA version: players can call in a striker, which performs devasting attacks on-screen enemies.
* Interactive environments; players can take advantages and use this to track their enemies.
* Some additional gameplay modes added including: Shield Simulator, Time Challenges, Scavenger Hunts, and a Survival mode.

PSP

The PSP version will feature simplified graphics, different characters, and extra features:

* 4 exclusive playable Marvel characters.
* 6 special comic book missions
* Microphone support (voice chat), via which players can speak with other players online
* Player Statistics
* Exclusive prequel missions

Wii

The Wii version will feature:

* Specific motion-sensitive controls for normal moves
* Motion-sensitive controlled Special attacks, unique for each character
* All gained powers can be accessed at any time.
* Access to any special move at any time, which is unavailable for any other build. (Menu selection must be used for other builds.)
* There is no online play, but there is normal multiplayer

Also, the most important thing is that Deadpool is apparently on all consoles and playable from the beginning.

Deadpool.. that's all I needed to hear to be sold on the game.

I'm torn between the Wii and PS2 versions. PS2 will probably control better and certainly come out sooner, plus it'll be online. But the Wii version has more stuff and looks better.

Actually the next gen exclusive characters kinda suck. The PSP has some good ones though.

I wonder ifthe PC version will have any extras this time.

I think I'll pick up the Wii version. I've been playing Legends II and while I like it, it's a bit boring. IGN said the controls are shaping up good, so I think it's the sort of game that will be more fun with the remote.

I don't really care about the lack of online. Beat 'em ups are the sort of game that I enjoy most when people are in the room playing with me. Online is kinda boring for me. A bit like Mario Kart.

I'll probably get the Wii version because the controls are so much better, but the lack of online kinda makes me want it for something else. They'll probably patch it in later, though.

Now that I think of it I bet the online play won't be that great.

Fun to play with friends, but like the sorceror from Diablo 1 with chain lightning, it can be a terrible concept.

Smorgasbord is such an apt word for this title, except instead of lots of different dishes it'll be the same dish over and over and over. Still, should be worth a blast with a few friends for a couple of hours.

I'm more interested in the prospect of downloadable charactes and missions. Yeah, Microtransactions are evil and all that jazz, but I want the Hulk.

And it plays more like X-Men Legends than Dark Alliance. Yeah, the OP sucks, I guess that's what happens when you're too lazy to go for originality and just copy from the crappy wikipedia page.

Spider-man is a DC character trapped in the Marvel universe LOL.

But seriously, has Iron Fist been announced for this yet? I want some Heros for Hire action.

Iron Fist and Luke Cage are both confirmed characters.

One of the little things I love about this game is that costumes actually effect stats and powers and in some cases, create an entirely different character.

    So awesome.

Daredevil, not Deadpool. The blind attorney. It makes sense, considering what's currently happening in the comics.

    Captain America has U.S. Agent
    Iron Man has War Machine
    Spider-Man has Scarlet Spider
    Thor has Beta Ray Bill
    Ms. Marvel has Sharon Ventura
Ghost Rider has Vengeance and Phantom Rider

And my opinion that the OP sucks is soley based upon the fact that the Wiki-article sucks and is an editing nightmare. It's like trying to control a group of rabid children.
