So, in an effort to cut costs on my Indiana Jones outfit I'm having to resort to alot of local resources for finding parts for it... With the exception of the jacket which was ordered waaay in advance, I've gotten the Pants at Dillards, the shirt at The Gap (Even I was suprised, but sure enough), and a halfway proper set of shoes at Target, and a belt from an Army Surplus store.... I've got a source on an 8ft whip, and possibly hat, but the last two major components that'll be tough to find are a fake gun and it's holster... Was wondering if you guys knew of what type of store I should be searching for online that might sell fake guns, and perhaps WWII era holsters.... Those last two components and I'm set...
Well it depends on what gun you want. In Raiders and Temple of Doom I believe he mostly used a Smith and Wesson Hand Ejector II, while in Crusade he used a Webley MK VI
Not sure on the holster, but you might be able to find an airsoft gun along the lines of what you need. The orange bits will stand out pretty obviously, though, and clipping them off/painting them is quite illegal, at least in the US.
Not too worried about the law... The holloween party we're going to is being hosted by my wife's cousin, who's husband is an officer of the said law...
Orange water pistol+black spray paint+silver dry brushing= good looking prop.

You can do this in an afternoon if the base coat dries quickly. Well maybe not the above, that required disassembly, but a water pistol could be made in to a solid looking prop with a few hours work.
Fading a shirt.... I've got a fairly brown shirt that I'd like to get faded into more of a khaki, any thoughts on how to accomplish that?
It depends on how fadeable it is. If it has already been washed and dryed the color will be harder to fade.
First, don't use bleach.
Put it in the wash with a bunch of heavier clothes(Jeans, Carhartt jacket, tennis balls) and run it thru several cycles on heavyduty with a little extra powder detergent. Don't dry between cycles.
If you had a ratty old dryer you could put it in there with a couple of pounds of gravel. That would do it quick.

I am so annoyed that they don't seem to sell that particular NERF gun in the UK. It looks so fantastic.

Here's a rubber Smith and Wesson for what seems to be a reasonable price, though I'm not sure how accurate it is.
Here's their Webley MK IV, a smaller version of the Mark VI.
Now I know nothing of the site or the authenticity of these molds but it's something you could look into.
