Archonwarp managed to spill orange juice on his laptop keyboard, and now the keyboard doesn't work. Is there any way for him to salvage it, or is he shit out of luck?

Your keyboard is most likely fucked.

The good news? Easily replaceable depending on your laptop model.

    Edit:

On most laptops there's a horizontal tab that's removable by getting a flathead screwdriver underneath it and wedging it up. Once this is done, you should see three well placed screws that can be removed and then behind the keyboard there should be a ribbon cable that can be gently unlocked and pulled out of it's receptor.

    Double Edit:

What's the model of your laptop?

Halfway down that page there's the replacement keyboard for your model. Usually they come with installation instructions but it's really fucking easy and we can help if it's confusing.

    Item #71-31769-00. For use on models SA2050T, SA2052T, SA2053T and ST5340T for $25.

Still turns on and stuff right? I'm assuming it's just the keyboard circuitry that's fried.

Meh, $25 is nothing to quibble over on proprietary laptops and shipping you'll probably get charged and the possibility of it not working and no warranty.

Judging from the fact that each laptop is using a separate model keyboard, it'll get ugly.

Also, ebay doesn't have any listed.

Just be very careful. Generally laptop keyboards are easy to replace, but a lot of times they have VERY thin (and short) ribbon cables that connect it to the motherboard. When I was working laptop repair, I tore more than one of these things trying to replace the keyboards. Usually I just destroyed the one I was taking out, so it wasnt a big deal, but its just something to be aware of.

Yeah they've made them really hard laminated plastic now. The thing that usually breaks is the clip that holds it in.

Thanks for all of the quick responses guys! I went and bought a USB keyboard, so I can now type instead of just copy/pasting with my usb mouse (the touchpad broke as well). While I was there, I checked out the laptops to see if there was maybe something decent for not too much coin and I saw this Asus. Do you guys think this would let me do some gaming reasonably well? Is there any glaring flaw with this or any reason to not get this. I'm thinking of going for one of these, or just going for a netbook. I really just want something that will let me play dota and some other games down the road.

Looks pretty solid for a laptop as far as prices go, pretty good specs. Of course, it is a laptop and you'll have to be aware it's not going to run things at high detail or anything like that.

    graphics card info.

basically it might run D3/SC2/other future games if the graphics are not intensive or you can turn them down enough

itll run dota and wow fine.
