Intelligence +1 - At Rivet City in the lab.
Strength +1 - Megaton inside the house the sheriff lives in.
Medicine +10 - Vault 101 in Dad's office.
Speech +10(If I remember correctly) - Paradise Falls at Euology's pad.
There are 20 of these? Holy geez.
Only found 4 so far and I have been looking everywhere.
Melee can suck at reaching people, a good example is right that the begining of the game in the vault
Where you find out jonas is dead and your dad left, you are trying to escape and there are the two security gaurds down that hallway you can charge them but you lose like 25% of your life before you get to them
Melee is still fun though, I love hiting people with my baseball bat
Yeah I dont find melee to be too useful in this. I use the bat on small enemies so I dont waste ammo but on people with guns its horribly futile and you get your ass kicked. And super mutants..well...thats a different story altogether.
It seems like melee could be a lot better paired with stealth. I'm hoping to try that out on my next playthrough with my black widow chick.
Yeah, I'm playing a stealthy character, and I find melee to be very entertaining. At least in what little combat experience I've had so far.
I am also skilled in explosives and SCIENCE. I don't know why I chose those three, but I totally did and it is great.
So, has anyone else "enrolled" in Springvale school?
And by enroll, I mean hunted down and eradicated those awful bastards inside! Because, JESUS, those raiders are sick, sick people! Talk about ! That was some deeply creepy shit. The part in the caves under the school was pretty awesome too, but I swear they used the same tileset from Oblivion. Kept expecting a goblin or a pile-o-logs trap. Not that I'm complaining, mind.
ha i kinda laughed when i saw the caves, cause i know people are bitching somewhere that they just reused oblivion shit. but i don't care, it looks great. i love the little green glow they added to the wisp stalk caps
I have a question for the research book sidequest in Megaton:
I am on the part where I need to deposit an observer in a "spawning pod" near the Alaskan War Memorial. I'm pretty sure I've found the area -- there are 3 egg caches together. However, when I access them, I can take the meat inside or leave one of my own items, but the observer doesn't show up on the list of possible items to leave.

did you scroll through your inventory? perhaps accidentally leave it in a storebox somewhere?

I pretty much enrolled straight out of the Vault and after meeting
the lonely woman in the house nearby. That school was awful but that was pretty much the hook for me. Especially when, after headshotting a Raider, one of the others keeps his distance outside of the doorway and says, "You scared? Just like a little bitch!" I came out at that point and he was gone, hiding behind a cluster of chairs in another room waiting for me.
This game is just fucking awesome. 8-)
Quick question: How do I shot clipboard up someone's ass?

Yeah, it shows up when I'm just looking through my items, but not when I'm in the screen where I could swap things.
Is it a bug that you can't see the your head when you get a haircut?
I assume so. I had that on my PS3 version. Oh well, not like you can't try a hair cut out, see it in the game, then go back in to get your old one.
Besides, I'm not so sure that in real life you can preview what you're hair will look like, exactly. (Yeah, yeah, weak excuse. I'm pretty sure it's a bug and is annoying.)
How early do I get a sniper rifle? I just got to Megaton and talked to the Sherrif.
I found one on the overpass near the Vault overlook. Had to take down a number of raiders to claim it, and it's pretty beaten to hell. Be careful if you go after them - the woman with the gun isn't a great shot, but if she puts one through you, you'll feel it.

I got mine at minefield, huge ass building there that he was perched on blowing up the cars around me with
Okay, ammo. There isn't enough of it. I guess maybe this is one of those Fallout things that carried over from the first two?
Anyway, question in that vein:
Is there a reliable ammo merchant other than Craterside Supplies in Megaton? If not, how often does she restock? I need to stock up on 10mm and 5.56 ammo.
I know of one other early reliable weapon vendor. Follow the quest line to deliver a letter to some chicks friend.
Wait...
The Lucy West quest we've just been talking about, or some other letter delivery? If it's the one to do with the family, I sort of need ammo to complete it, hehe. I am completely out at this point.
Seriously, I am dangerously low on ammo, and I need to run around the D.C. area? What's a good enemy/place to scavenge ammo?
so...i just got raped by a...yao gai? what the fuck is that? i was just killing dogs and mole rats when this huge fucking thing came at me and kicked my ass. i couldn't slow him down with shotgun blasts or anything!

Holy fuck those things are fucking INSANE
I had to pump up on jet just so I could have enough AP to VATS them in the head 5 times to take them down with my combat shotgun.
Then I realized a VATS Missile attack to their head was much more efficient.

Yeah the Lucy West quest. If you go into the rail station location the person you're looking for is in there. There's only like 3 mole rats and a couple of mutant mud crabs in there.

Inter_d I'd like to introduce you to my friend the Deathclaw.
Ammo is harshly scarce early on (I don't know if it gets better later) especially if you go fight in an area that has a lot of creatures and few bandits.
Damned Fire ant quests - I finished it, but pretty much all my ammo is gone except for shotgun - and all I've got is a sawed off, which isn't too bad, but its very easy to get swarmed when you only get 2 shots before you need to reload.
Does perception still effect your ability to hit ranged targets?
The weapon skills/hit percent are now each modified by different stats.
Ah, so its pretty much useless now?
Nope. Review the manual, but I'm pretty sure that Perception is used for 2 of the combat skills. And also, just perception in general.
Manual Spoiler
A high Perception grants a bonus to Explosives, Lockpkc, and Energy Weapons skills, and determins when red compass markings appear (which indicate threats)
Don't you have the game? And therefore the manual?
People keep mentioning having ammo trouble. I have more than I know what to do with. Do you folks have a high repair skill? I think perhaps the extra damage from this skill helps a lot.

Huh? Repair gives you a higher damage?

I have to say, lockpicking in this game is better by leaps and bounds than in any other. It's actually fun!
Now, does anyone want to bet on the existence of a Tower of Hanoi puzzle?

Good info there - thanks Fonjo.

I don't know about everyone else, but:

Unless hairstyles are a collectible item, and I'm missing the point of the question.
EDIT: Again! That's it, I'm giving my Fallout 3 character red hair in honor of today.

I wouldn't call a stat that modifies energy weapons/explosives/lockpick/ and detection range useless.
...but that's jsut my crazy talk.
