Hey, for anyone who doesn't want to be evil in Megaton...
and nuke it... well, I did, and I made a save right before it goes off. It looks awesome. If you want to check it out I uploaded the save here. Just put it in your Saves folder and you'll be good to go.
It's cool, I'm saving that for me second playthrough. I normally play evil characters in RPG's but wasn't feeling it this time. I really like being a good guy in this game.
I hear you man. Call me a softy, but there's so much pain and suffering in the Wasteland already, it's hard not to want to help.
That said, I'm going to wreck shit on my 2nd trip.
Burke killed the Sheriff and now Moriarty will probably gain full control of the town, does anyone think that if I kill Moriarty the other, nice, family who has a bar by the bomb will get control instead and make the town not go all evil..
This is the first game in a very very long time where I've felt that my actions actually impact the world around me, and I want to mold the world to a perfect haven for all things good.
Edit: How do you get a picture of yourself? The best I can do is zoom out a bit so I get to look myself in the back..
Regarding your spoilers, I'm about 14 hours in and nothing remotely interesting or dynamic has happened with that.
Makes your next sentence look so sad.
Oh I don't expect anything to happen while I'm playing.. I'd have thought that the endgame cinematic takes you through the various locations and shows you what's happened - Fallout 1/2 style.
Edit: It would however be fucking sweet if it happened in real time so to speak.
I have Farcry2 and bought Pro Evo 2009 about three weeks ago, i've got LBP coming in about a week and Fallout3 coming tomorrow... how the hell am I going to do this?

I mean, I hacked Moriarty's computer after breaking into his office back door and found out what I needed to find out, and everytime I talk to him it's still "100 caps for answers lol". With no dialogue option of "fuck you bitch I already know that shit."
I wonder how the main quest proceeds and how much more hilarious "100 caps to know!" becomes down the line.
the GNR building, but I cant fucking get to it. Every metro tunnel I go through I end up 50 miles in the wrong direction, every pile of rubble I climb to try to get to it tops off with an invisible wall. HOW THE HELL DO I GET TO GNR PLEASE TELL ME before I snap and just..like...do something horrible
I've not been able to play for more than 2 hour bursts, but for people about to do the minefield...
When you approach the town, get up on the cliffs where the smokestacks and radio tower are. If you stole the hunting rifle from Simms' son or bought one from the caravan, get as close as you can and snipe Arkansas while hidden. Not only was it a fairly easy shot, but he's the only guy there, and he has a sweet ass drop. Just keep an eye out for the mines. :-)

They're fairly obvious and say something like "GNR THIS WAY ->" there's one on the wall where the quest marker wants you to go to the entrance of the subway.
My shotgun (35 damage) isn't doing dick compared to my assault rifle (33 damage).
WTF.
I was happy to finally get the shotty and expected it to rip new face-holes. Instead it just tickles everyone and I'm getting owned. It took 20+ shells to take down the glorified mud-crab. It wouldn't be a huge deal if I could switch back to the assault rife, but I'm fresh out of ammo.
Just not addicted. Haven't really done much either.
To each his own. I'm 20 hours into the game and still addicted. I've barely touched the main quest! I'm salivating at the thought of playing an evil character next.
Every word of this.

Argh, anyone else find shotties suck?
No.
I usually two-shot stupid Murkwhatevers by getting close to 'em and VATSing two shotgun shells (sawed off or shotgun works for this!) into their face.
I hate to be another guy who needs help finding stuff but....
West delivery chain:
Where can I find the Family? I've looked all over the three areas and can't find them.
That gave me trouble too. Turns out I didn't look deeply enough into one of the areas:
Y'know the subway station where you find the two ghouls, and one wants Sugar Bombs? Well, in their place there's another room with some canisters of nuclear waste around a manhole. The manhole will take you down into the Family's domain. Watch for traps.
Seriously, after exploring all three locations I spent like 20 minutes going up and down the drive-in trying to find the entrance to some hidden cave I'd missed, seeing as my target obviously wasn't the other two sites.

Those mudcrabs take some amazing hits if you shoot their shell... just get up in their grill, go VATS and shoot their face. I've one-shot a few of them that way, with a crit.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Your character can become horribly disfigured? I.. I think I have to buy this game now.
Well not really. Not really a spoiler, and someone asked about it earlier
The ghoul thing is just a mask. It allows you to go by feral ghouls without being attack, which makes going into tunnels so much better.
The helmet is called Eyebot helmet or something, and I picked it up during the main quest. You're path will go right by it and it's really big, so it's almost impossible to miss.
The armor is just metal armor, and I had to buy it cause I haven't ran into any baddies that wear it yet. It's the best armor I've seen so far besides power armors.

The fallout one-item approach to armor is pretty neat, but I really wouldn't mind a more morrowind-esque approach where I could wear like a powered armor glove and a leather glove and t-shirt and leather pants
so i didnt blow up megaton and finally made the trek out to the tower. I work my way up to the top to meet tenpenny. The meeting didnt go so well, penny ended up flying of the balcony due to my assault rifle taking his head off. Then the ghouls took care of everyone else and I reaped the rewards.

Go into the Northwest Seneca Station (the zombie drug lab guys) and go into the room on your right with the radioactive shit. There's a manhole lid at the foot of all that crap and you're good to go. I missed it too, a friend told me to look again... so don't feel bad. Watch out for tripwires and mirelurks!

Double edit - Oh man, guys, don't read the above spoiler until you've been through the town!
Triple edit - Or, obviously, the one below :P
My encounter with Arkansas was the stuff of legend...
Slowing picking my way though the town, super carefully to look for mines. *CRACK!* Hmm... Wonder what that was. Don't see anyone around. Oh well, maybe a dog stepped on a mine or something.
*CRACK!* *CRACK!* Hmm... Thats odd. I swear that car wasn't on fire a second ago... I wonde- *BOOM!* Car explodes, exploding a mine, exploding me. Crippled both legs. I dragged myself, stupidly, behind another car.
*CRACK!* sssssss... *BOOM!*
Anyway, it took me a great many stimpaks before I figured out what the hell was going on. Didn't expect any of it, and it was awesome.
EDIT - Oh, and good God were those abandoned houses in Minefield amazingly atmospheric. Very, very sobering stuff.
Man that part was great - primarily because I wasn't expecting it at all.

Man... wow....
(after the "Family" quest line)
Anyone crafted the shishkabob yet? Fucking hell this is an amazing weapon. I made three of them all at once and repaired em all together... god-like.
Here's a good spot to get at least 3 of each of the required matts:
I'm currently stuck on a part where I need fusion battery from 3rd floor.
I assume its on the floor with locked door which need 25+ lockpicking.
And I assume its behind that door and I can't get it because my lockpicking is 10 and I've killed all the supermutants.
Please tell me I'm wrong. (and point me to right direction, will ya)

That's a bug because:
If you talk to Gob and pressure him to talk about your father, he mentions Moriarty's terminal. He then tells you to ask Nova about it. Nova says he loves that thing and records secret shit all the time in there. You can then go hack his terminal, or you can just grab his key out of the cabinet or whatever, and get the info. Then, if you talk to him he will no longer try to sell you the info. I guess if you go grab the info on your own without being told about it being there, the dialogue won't recognize it.
I only figured this out because I had to start my character over when my save files went corrupt.

I haven't done that quest so I don't know the specifics, but if all you need is a regular fusion battery, you can get them from any old Protectron robot. The "deputy" in front of Megaton should do if you can't find one anywhere else.

There some
metal armor can be found on the talon company commander at the Fort Braxdon or Brinnion or whatever its called.
My biggest gripe with this game so far is that I see no good reason that I, a PC gamer, should have to call up a computer interface to switch weapons. Give me mouse wheel weapons and number keys or give me death. Seriously. This shit is getting old, fast.
Ive played for 10 hours straight with no crashes. Never had a crash. Hell.. i even alt-tab out and do other things and its fine. (oblivion used to crash when I did that)
I did fall through the floor once though... I was walking over some debris in the subway and got stuck in the wall. I moved around and fell through the ground.
Luckily the old oblivion TCL command in the console turns collision off so i could escape.
