I wish John Keegan had a podcast. Though he might not have the chops to match his own writing. It would definitely need a charasmatic British narrator and I would listen to that shit hours on end.
what's another good podcast that doesn't suck or involve six neckbeards sitting around bitching about video games/technology
the guy has stopped doing them, but search for Classic Madmen and Dreamers.
they are classic short stories about, well, madmen and dreamers. the reading of Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man" is good, but Guy de Maupassant's "The Diary of a Madman" is even better.
i want to contact the dude who put on that podcast and tell him to do more. it's a really cool theme
my favorite is their theory that two people who don't know what they're talking about actually know LESS than ONE person that doesn't know what he's talking about
I thought the thread title was going to be a segway to The Beastie Boys. Imagine my surprise when it was just NPR.
Car Talk is pretty damn good... but the Diane Reem show is so unintentionally hilarious.

Things that I love:
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
Prairie Home Companion
Wiretap
The Vinyl Cafe
This American Life
The Writer's Almanac
Radiolab
I can't believe no one else has mentioned Radiolab, actually. I know it doesn't come on every day, or even every week, but it is one of the best shows.
Man, the recent podcast of this american life, how to win friends and influence people, was pretty awesome. had interesting stories by paul feig and david sedaris, then this one kinda cool, kinda sad story about a guy who dresses up in a homemade superman costume every chance he gets after his wife died.
I heard this! That story was really cool. The short story about dating Lois Lane was also very good. i actually thought it was one of the better superman stories I had heard in a while.
I know it's not story production, but I really like Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and the world. It's nice to get news that doesn't focus entirely on domestic events, but when it does, they report in unique ways. All Things Considered had a running report called the Road To Ruin that I thought was very well done. The two reporters drove across the country and interviewed people at their houses about the financial crises.
Also Fresh Air is clutch. Her interview last night was very good.
Wait Wait is more about current news, Says You is about ummm word play? And definitions and shit? It's way dorkier.
I caught this about two weeks ago. It is really, really fun to listen to. The games are like, what's the difference between two words (like predilection and predisposed, or plate and dish). Or something like, which word doesn't belong, and you have to figure out the ridiculous connection between four things that the fifth word doesn't have.

They do a lot of weird word play games on the show and it's fucking hilarious.
We also used to listen Wiretap every Tuesday, but sorta fell out of that habit. That one's damn funny too.

I think I will be getting it for Christmas so I am holding off or I would have ordered it already.
