Homemade fake blood and other ways to dirty up a halloween costume

I'm going as Pyramid Head and I would like to gore/dirty up the white apron-type part of the costume.

What is a good recipe for some dark, old looking fake blood that I can splatter all over it? Also what are some other ways to dirty up the apron so it will look all disgusting and rotten like everything else in Silent Hill 2?

I would prefer some stuff that will not go all rank when I toss the costume in the corner after I'm done with it.

If possible I also want to bloody up the Great Knife but since it will be spraypainted cardboard I don't think the fake blood would work well without warping the cardboard.

    Honestly, paint is your best bet. Fake blood can have a number of bases, soap and corn syrup are the most common. Even though they can dry, you will HAVE to wash it before storage (which you should anyhow, ew).
    So yea, go with paint.

    Ashes and charcoal are good for getting that dirty look, but you will smell a bit smokey.

    Well a lot smokey, but it is totally worth it.

    Spray lemon juice on it and pop it in a LARGE oven at 120 Celcius for a few minutes until it starts to brown.

    If you want to make fake blood, oatmeal flakes make for nice chunks when mixed in.
