So I'm running PCLinux OS on a hella old laptop. I want to reduce the resolution, but when I do, it reduces the size of the screen area (i.e. creates giant black borders). How do I fix my resolution without it shrinking the viewable screen size?
There may be scaling built into the LCD for the laptop. I know my old laptop had an option to scale or to show 1:1 pixels.
If it's hardware scaling, it might be in the Bios, but I think this is an OS issue. I haven't played with Linux enough recently, and have never touched PCLinuxOS to know where to look though. Maybe the xorg.conf files, or of there are any graphical tools for screen resolution.
On laptops, it's usually Fn + one of the F keys, usually F3 or F4. What you're looking for on the keys is something that looks like two monitors (usually).
