Awwww man, why did they have to bring over Oblivion's crappy level scaling for the wastes? Just because I'm level 20 doesn't mean I want to burn hundreds of microfusion cells wiping out waves upon waves of werebears and giant scorpions while I explore. What the fuck is wrong with placing enemies based on the area!? It's worked well for every other publisher than Bethesda, and yet they doggedly insist on doing it in all their games.
Last I heard this is not at all the case
It is not, but certain parts of the wasteland are more dangerous than others. Obviously the area around Vault 101 only has really easy enemies like bloatflies and raiders wielding lead pipes, but the further you get out the more dangerous it is.
Nope, it only seems that way because, like me, you explored the areas around Vault 101 first. Go back at level 20 and look around. You'll still see the low-level enemies mixed in, but most of them are nastier beasties. It's actually funny, because the high-level areas are protected by mutants, but in the endgame supers are easier to dispatch than the stuff just randomly wandering around. The result is that it's safer to stick to guarded targets.
It wouldn't annoy me so much if there weren't giant scorpions everywhere. Those little bastards are tanks: no weak spots, tons of armor/HP. Just flat out annoying to kill.
Tell me this game is not atmospheric. I just had a shit moment. You know feeling alone in the wasteland and was searching out a building with dogmeat and then someone is pounding on the door from the OUTSIDE!
I read that, too, and while I think it's true for specific locations, I'm saying it's observably untrue for the overworld.
I've been getting more and more crashes lately, for some odd reason. I've tried adding Steam to FFDShow's exceptions, but it still turns on. How would I add Fallout 3 to the exceptions, if it's through Steam?
I was getting crazy crashes and the FFDShow fix wasn't working. Putting fallout3.exe into Windows 2000 compatibility mode has let me play the game for hours without a crash though. It only took 3 days of me trying various things to try this :x
Anyway, try that.
The 360 version isn't without crashes, either. I've had three so far. It seems to happen if I play it for enough time. Hopefully both versions will get a patch soon.
2000 compatibility mode just makes it crash without even loading for me.

One of the many things I had a lot of fun with in Fallout were all the computer terminals you could explore or hack in order to discover Fallout lore and goofy stories. I know there is a science skill in Fallout 3, and that hacking is basically a means to control those Robots. But are there other computers or terminals where science comes into play and you can find out secret game info or Fallout lore?

So I come out of a subway. Three guys are waiting for me.
While fighting said three guys, a super mutant brute with a minigun wanders into the fray as does a Centaur and my strongest gun was an Assault Rifle and I used every drug and health item I had.

Is there anything to DO here? I have child at heart, and I think I've talked to all of the kids here, but no one seems to have any quests at all. The best I could find were the two kids who would trade buffout/strange meat for cave fungus.
I already rescued the kids from the slavers... Is there anything else I'm missing?

Subways and some other places (like the Super-Duper Mart) have Protectron robots controlled by a terminal.
Also I found a Power Fist today while I was exploring. Woo!
ed: You come back to Little Lamplight later for the story quest.
So I come out of a subway. Three guys are waiting for me.

Not fun times
I had a similar situation with the Talon Mercenary Company and some Super Mutants... apparently the muties opened up on the Mercs just as I was arriving, so me and the Mercs sacked the muties... then the bastards turned on me!
So on the mirelurk quest for Moira, did anyone realize there is a place to hide the observer within the first room under the memorial? Just turn left at the first opportunity and it's in a small room to your right. Is there any incentive for exploring the whole place, cause mirelurks are bastards.
So there is a building in the game called 'The Dunwich Building'. Guess who this is a reference to? Great area, I like that both Oblivion and Fallout 3 have Lovecraft areas.
I made it through this area, but I couldn't find the book Jamie was talking about through his logs. Anyone know where is at? I also didn't get any quest to go here, I just had to check it out. The build up in the dungeon but the ending is kind of anti-climatic.

There's some really nice Metal armor behind a door marked "Clinic," possibly in the adjoining room. It's got DR >20.

You know what's a beautiful perk? Animal friends. Also I never really found the scorpions much trouble as you can easily just back up and shoot ad infinity, it does take a ton of ammo but by the endgame I have more money and ammo then I know what to do with. Now the Bears and Deathclaws on the other hand are slightly more annoying.
So power armour. How the heck can you wear it when it weighs like 80lbs suit/helmet. I tried to pick some up when I threw down with some bad power armored dudes but its so damned heavy! I won't be able to carry no loots.
Get the perk that adds 50 pounds of carrying weight. That should balance it out.
Wait what? I can control robots with my science skill?
Science is basically only used to hack into computers - and guess what computers have (hint: information).
Based on the game previews I've seen, all those terminals had a hacking mini-game that if hacked successfully, turned on the Robco Robots. You could not control them driectly, just activate or disable them to help your progress.

Well he's right mostly computers hold information, sometimes completely useless yet very interesting. They're probably some of the most awesome parts because that's where alot of back story is hidden. Also they do other neat things like opening locks to safes and doors, turning on and off turrets & robots & other traps. They're pretty essential to any sneak character. The hacking game is also really really easy. You can always just quit and retry as many times as you'd like, I've gotten passed it just by randomly selecting sometimes.
Hahaha, two things:
- I found the area that kept getting demo'd at E3. I see all the cars packed together on the road and am like, "let's not fire any rounds around here". I hear some screaming, and see a raider with a missile launcher.
- I stumbled in the Arlington Library and the computer terminal is complaining that books are 200 years late

There's some really nice Metal armor behind a door marked "Clinic," possibly in the adjoining room. It's got DR >20.
Also for those planning ahead, if you wipe out the mirelurks before you get the quest from Moria (as I did inadvertantly) you can just stroll back down over their rotting corpses and place the observer after getting the quest. You will still complete the optional quest of not killing any. It seems to only count them dead if you kill them while you have the quest.
So I really love the game, I just wish it was much more challenging (well, and a longer main quest wouldn't have hurt either).
did you play on very hard?
Yes, still not hard enough. Well it is in the beginning, but you soon level out of any problems. It's not that I want all of the battles to be really challenging, it's just that I never really had any "oh shit, run!" moments from the 30-40 hours or so I've played.

I couldn't find the exit so I spent a good part of 15 minutes going room to room being chased by a gang of mirelurks. it was awful ..... -ly funny.

Anyone else pick Black Widow as a perk and charm Mr. Burke?
He falls in love with you, gives up his quest to detonate megaton and leaves. I came back a bit later to find two love notes from him that he had given to Moriarty for me.
This should be interesting...

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
The hallucinations and shit you have in there are awesome, pure awesome, Tranquility Lane kind of awesome. But they don't lead anywhere... it would have been cool if there was some sort of character development or if you got a confrontation with someone in there who was still willing to talk to you to tell you what happened (even though this is explained through the computers).
Oh well... I would have liked more but I guess you can't always get what you want. Hallucinations were still awesome while I was having them.

There's a town up northeast that's being terrorized by constant battles between two
super-foes, The Machinist and The AntAgonist.
If you have the Lady Killer perk you can seduce
the AntAgonist and make her give up her evil ways. She gives you her armor, but not her heart.
I wonder if the Black Widow perk allows you to go another rout.

I can't help but feel I missed something there. Did you notice that the last guy you fight isn't an "insane survivor" but just a "survivor"?
