Underappreciated Movies

This thread is all about movie that didn't get the love and admiration they so obviously deserved.

Here is my contribution:

Stranger_than_fiction.jpg

I saw this on a whim when it first came out, and absolutely loved it. It was to Will Farrel what The Truman Show was to Jim Carrey; the odd, semi-serious role where he showed that, yes, he can actually act. People need to force him to do more work like this. Plus, it had Maggie Gyllenhaal looking hot, and Emma Thompson being really crazy and awesome. It also had a sweet and interesting story with a life-affirming ending.

Hara-Kiri - total bad-assery throughout the entire film and it often gets ignored.

but they speak to the angsty, bitter, secretly hopelessly romantic teenage girl in me

also, mean girls, but that got way overappreciated for a while.

I never saw television ads! I feel like I've missed out on an important cultural experience.

Or do you mean in the movie itself, it's been so long I can't remember if there were silly ads in the movie.

also the fact that all the people in the movie were absurdly attractive and athletic and intelligent

and that they lived in a fascist society in which most rights were denied to anyone but citizens who earned those rights through military service

and that they had a scene in which mormons traveled to a bug-infested spot to spread the good word but they were all viciously killed by the aliens

Would you like to know more?

man, pony, children of men isn't underappreciated. people here either love it or hate it because of clive owen.

i love it. and the one-shot long scene is awesome and the baby crying and everyone pausing scene is great, if a bit ridiculous and implausible.

Like I said, it's been a looong time since I saw it, but mainly I remember the parts on space ships and the fighting CG bug aliens on the planet and the guy getting his brains sucked out and that one sex scene. The satire didn't stick with me so much.
