I'd say you're being pretty kind to the game there.
I enjoyed the first 2 but this game kinda disgusts me. I was expecting the next Animal Crossing to be the next one, the Animal Crossing 2 that reinvents the game and sets the new standard of the series. An actual leap in the game formula like the difference between Sims 1 & 2.
Instead they trotted out the same damn game. It's the same fucking game again, with the absolute barest minimum of effort put into it. The big new feature is... city with a barbershop? Really? Really?
Fuck this game. Hopefully the next animal crossing will be an actual new game rather than the fourth consecutive N64 port.
Yes. I don't get Nintendo sometimes. They have something as unique as Animal Crossing and instead of making vast improvements and adding new content....they just plop out the same product. It's like Babe Ruth bunting for a single. Sure, it's productive, but sometimes we want that homerun or at least a double.
It dissapoints because I really loved the AC on the Gamecube. I was looking forward to this when it was announced for the Wii only to be disgusted by the, apparent, lack of effort. I was thinking that the towns would have bowling alleys where you could wii bowl, pool halls where you could use the controller like a cue, baseball/basketball games that also used the controlls etc. Head scratcher.
It's like the Wii sport games. How the hell have we not received fleshed out versions of the individual sports? Is it the fact that Nintendo doesn't even have to try anymore?

Well, Mario Baseball is out.
Super Swing Golf did a really good job I think (better than Tiger Woods '0X)
Punch-out is in development.
I'm not sure about tennis games, and honestly, Wii Sports Bowling is enough of a complete game.
I got sick of the Gamecube AC three years ago. I loved it for months, then I realized it was starting to feel like a chore, and now I never want to play one again. I avoided the DS version, and I'm passing on this, too.
That said, it is charming enough that I can see why people love it. e: Took out a line that seemed unnecessarily dickish. Sorry.

Sega Superstars Tennis, while lacking difficulty, is a decent game. And we'll be getting a CubePort of Mario Tennis I believe.

Aside from the anemic multiplayer this is exactly what they did last time and were lauded for their efforts.
Well to be fair, the big thing there was it being a portable version.
If your Wii Store purchases were brought into this as items you can interact with.

Me, I'm less irritated that this is basically a slightly enhanced port than I am that it's not a slightly enhanced port of the Gamecube version.
The DS version had some neat additions pretty much all of the things that were changed or removed were no good for me. It was good for a portable version though, and that was what made it OK. But this isn't!

I wanted to enjoy Sega Superstars Tennis so badly, but compared to Wii Sports Tennis it's a fucking travesty.
There is actually one person per house, four houses per town, four towns per wii.
Oh thank fucking god, I was worried about that. We have one too many people for one town. We had to get a second memory card to start a town for my mom.
On one hand I will agree that there doesn't seem to be much drastically different in this game. On the other hand I am a total whore for Animal Crossing. I think I will get my money's worth of fun out of this by playing it with my family.
I'm not really all that excited for the speaker, but if it's bundled in without jacking up the price, I'll take it! I guess I'll just order the version at Amazon that's offering the $10 coupon and hope it comes with a speaker.
I'll jump on the list when I get it! I want to come to people's towns and see non US-holidays!

A video showing the DS Suitcase. It's how you can transfer you Wild World catalog over. It appears that your character's appearance (face & hair) will also transfer over. I was kinda hoping that you could still make a new character if you decide to do this. Maybe I'll be wrong. :P

Actually, I read that your DS character is completely intact. I think that is the point of showing both characters in the different worlds at the same time.

Awesome. That was my only concern. Alot of games that do this kind of thing usually delete the original data.

More of this. Other than NES games, not seeing a whole lot of suggestions for improvement. I'm curious what the dissatisfied people here would add.
If your Wii Store purchases were brought into this as items you can interact with.
It would. But I think they ruled that out already.
Anyway, looking forward to this on the contingency I get to play it with friends. And I'm interested in moving my DS character over... and in the "Mii Mask" thing. I hope it acts like more than just a mask, though, and will actually emote and change expressions.

I was initially disappointed by the sameness of AC: Wii but I'm getting on release day like the whore I am. I'm still in two minds about whether to import my catalogue from WW. I guess if I get board filling out the Wii catalogue I could just import the WW a few months down the line? Or do you have to start a new character with the import?
Dunno if anyone else has read the info from the latest NP, but Labelle who runs Gracie's shop is the (other) sister of Mable and Sable; the shoeshine guy is called Kicks and looks skunkish. Additionally, there's another new character (whose name and genus escape me right now) that offers you balloons, pinwheels, and (cue my wife's giggling glee: ) bubble wands.
One of the new holidays is a Carnival(e), hosted by a Peacock dude. I'm guessing he'll be fabulous in every sense of the word.
The balloon guy is named Phineas. The Peacock is Pavé and he is the host of the new holiday Festivale. Some people think it might be the traveling carnival though.
Also, when it comes to transferring your catalog, I'm thinking it has to be the start of a new character because of the appearance transferring as well. I'm thinking that I will transfer my DS character over to have the catalog to buy things from, but keep a different character as a main. I've been playing my DS ac for just over 3 years. I bought it will the DS Lite release, so I've got a lot of things that I would miss.

This is at least what I could find from a couple pages of Q&A transcript quotes:
6:18 Q&A time. In WIld World, if one player left a town, everyone was disconnected. This time around there's the same system, and so the same problem. But this time around you can do more stuff together, like take in a show and such. Still, Yeguchi is sorry for not fixing the problem.
6:31 They thought about interconnecting with the Forecast Channel, but they were worried that some regions would be too rainy/not rainy enough, leading to too rainy/not rainy enough Animal Crossing cities. The game relies on seasonal changes, so they figured it would be better to keep the seasons consistent in the game. Seasons are still inverted for those in the southern hemisphere.
It's more that the general attitude is City Folk will be utilizing less of its system than Wild World did for the DS; it's more like a gamecube port with more imported WW content than new stuff.

Thats actually a lot of events.
I really hope you can partake in fishing tournaments while visiting friends towns.
I'm dissapointed they didn't add more, but I will be picking this game up. There's nothing like having a cute little dog come up to me and say "Hello DOUCHEBAG! Could you deliver a package for me? Thanks. See you later FUCKFACE!" For whatever sick reason, that never gets old to me. It's also great fun to go into my wife's town and put horrible messages on the board and have her say a couple of days later..."Was it really necessary to announce the half off sale on 12" dildos at Nooks?"
I wonder who's idea it was to not overhaul the visuals/gameplay at all. Whoever he is, he is stupid.
It looks a little more polished than the Cube version, but with that art style, you can only go so far. Even Super Smash Bros. Brawl didn't exactly make any leaps and bounds with it.

Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
My three biggest problems with this otherwise awesome franchise are that:
1- It lacks customization. Sure, you had 4 patterns (16 if you really messed around with all 4 players), but that's not enough. Every pattern you apply on a shirt loops, it's impossible to make, say, a custom tuxedo or something like that. All custom hats were stupid viking hats. I think that most of the fun I had with this game was making the village and house look however I wanted them to look. You should really be able to have so much interaction with the town that you could make it look medieval, futuristic, gloomy or artistic or whatever. Same with your interior and clothes. It also bothered me in the DS version that people could just rip off textures from the ground. In my town, I should be able to lock textures and shit around (like, lamppoles or stuff like that). That defeats the purpose of customizing my town. I also wish there were more power to edit the music in the game. Beyong a 16 notes jingle with one instrument, you couldn't do much. Just gimme something basic, Mario-paint-like, with the ability to make my own songs play on speakers outside or in my house. That'd be neat.
2- The multiplayer is essentialy a IM software with a neat visual interface. There is NOTHING to do. Just look at the new trailers! What are people doing? Walking around. Sometimes they sit to watch a firework or to listen to K.K. Slider, but they're still just walking and sitting, chatting around. I want more interactivity in multiplayer. I dunno, just add a way to set objectives and challenges, like preparing races, musical chair, fishing contests that don't depend on the code of honor to determine a winner, etc. Hell, add a synched rock-paper-scissors emote too, ANYTHING.
3- This one isn't as important as the two others, especially the first one, but I'd love if there was more of it. Like, more clothes, more hats, more fishes, tools, furnitures, etc. More of everything. The game's good, but adding more content would help the customization further.
It's sad because if these two points were adressed, Animal Crossing would pretty much be the perfect game in my eyes.
Personally, I am unlikely to buy another Animal Crossing until they add vehicles, and a boat you can pilot, and trees you can climb, and houses you can customise the shape of (conservatories, towers, etc), and proper landscaping and hole-digging. Maybe swimming for good measure.

So, you're saying you are never going to buy an AC game again?

I won't be transferring my Wild World stuff over as that would take away some of the sense of progressive unlocking that is central to the game.
Not sure quite how old that Let's Play is, but it's one of the funniest damn things I've read in ages.
