My three biggest problems with this otherwise awesome franchise are that:
1- It lacks customization. Sure, you had 4 patterns (16 if you really messed around with all 4 players), but that's not enough. Every pattern you apply on a shirt loops, it's impossible to make, say, a custom tuxedo or something like that. All custom hats were stupid viking hats. I think that most of the fun I had with this game was making the village and house look however I wanted them to look. You should really be able to have so much interaction with the town that you could make it look medieval, futuristic, gloomy or artistic or whatever. Same with your interior and clothes. It also bothered me in the DS version that people could just rip off textures from the ground. In my town, I should be able to lock textures and shit around (like, lamppoles or stuff like that). That defeats the purpose of customizing my town. I also wish there were more power to edit the music in the game. Beyong a 16 notes jingle with one instrument, you couldn't do much. Just gimme something basic, Mario-paint-like, with the ability to make my own songs play on speakers outside or in my house. That'd be neat.
2- The multiplayer is essentialy a IM software with a neat visual interface. There is NOTHING to do. Just look at the new trailers! What are people doing? Walking around. Sometimes they sit to watch a firework or to listen to K.K. Slider, but they're still just walking and sitting, chatting around. I want more interactivity in multiplayer. I dunno, just add a way to set objectives and challenges, like preparing races, musical chair, fishing contests that don't depend on the code of honor to determine a winner, etc. Hell, add a synched rock-paper-scissors emote too, ANYTHING.
3- This one isn't as important as the two others, especially the first one, but I'd love if there was more of it. Like, more clothes, more hats, more fishes, tools, furnitures, etc. More of everything. The game's good, but adding more content would help the customization further.
It's sad because if these two points were adressed, Animal Crossing would pretty much be the perfect game in my eyes.
Whats awesome is how you read the OP.
I'll give you the highlited version.
1- Clothes are custom, you can design fronts, backs, and sleeves all independantly.
3- There is more of everything, did you think this was just a port? More hats and fish can be seen in videos posted on the last page.
One thing I disliked before was, as I think Djiem noted, you can't set up items outside; they just turn into leaves or whatever.
Also, I wish more items actually did something. In WW, I have an arcade machine and a pinball machine that do absolutely nothing but make noise, and that's only in the case of the latter. And a TV that your character can watch, but you can't. Wee, exciting. Gotta me something they can show you when you watch...
I hope the Wii version has more storage space, maybe a way to save or display those little Gyroids, as you can with other stuff in the museum. I don't have room for them all, but I hate throwing them out. And trying to form full collections of anything was nigh impossible before with the limited amount of storage you had. Be nice if you could hang pictures on walls, and set stuff on tables more easily.
Yeah, I'm a bit of a packrat.

Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
Personally, I am unlikely to buy another Animal Crossing until they add vehicles, and a boat you can pilot, and trees you can climb, and houses you can customise the shape of (conservatories, towers, etc), and proper landscaping and hole-digging. Maybe swimming for good measure.
So, you're saying you are never going to buy an AC game again?
Kor, I'll admit I skimmed through the infos for City Folk, but most of my criticism remains. So concern #3 has been solved, and a small part of #1 too, but there are still many things the game is lacking, I find.
To add to what I said about multiplayer interactivity, they should add various minigames, Club House style. Nothing complex, just the basics, but that provide some more fun to be had with friends. You could even put bells or items as a prize or prize pool in which everyone pitch in before the tourney, or whatever.
Oh come on, I'm not asking for the moon. You could very well implement what I said into Animal Crossing and it'd remain Animal Crossing. I love AC, that's why I'd like to see it become better, because I love the franchise. If I didn't like it I wouldn't give a fuck about it progressing or not.
I'd love if you had a few more patterns to play around with.
I usually did some random stuff, using one of the many pattern creators on the internet, and it was decently good times. I have quite a few different images, like Space Ghost, the Thundercats logo, etc.
I wonder if those things are still stored online. I did at once make a 16-panel rendition of the cover art for the 3rd disc of the FLCL set (B&W Naota holding the guitar). I had a few friends that went all out, and made shit like sidewalks and pools and other stuff to make a layout all over town. We sort of just forgot about actually playing the game, after a while.
e: Oh Yeah. There are a few not on there, though, I used to make tons of these.
So prices for the bundle are finally getting updated in stores. Gamestop now has it listed at $69.99 for the bundle and $59.99 for the regular. I'll still be getting the bundle. :P
This game was extremely disappointing to me when it was announced. I'll probably still get it, because the wii has few enough "must haves" as it is, but when I pondered a Wii Animal crossing in the past, this is certainly not what I had in mind.
I'm calling nintendo out for both laziness and pandering to the casual gamer on this one.

What?! It's $50 for the basic on Amazon, and you get $10 off a future game! You crazy, Gamestop!

I wonder who's idea it was to not overhaul the visuals/gameplay at all. Whoever he is, he is stupid.
It looks a little more polished than the Cube version, but with that art style, you can only go so far. Even Super Smash Bros. Brawl didn't exactly make any leaps and bounds with it.
Yeah, but the Cube version was a touched up port of an N64 game. They seriously should have redone the graphics a whole lot more than they did.
I love the art style and i'm glad they didn't change it. What I dislike was the incremental upgrade for a new system.
I never got into Wild World because I thought it was too much like the original that I played to death. This one is just taking away CoD/ToS/WoG/time from me and my Wii because my girlfriend is a nut for the game and doesn't mind a bare upgrade.

Hah, that's awesome. I'm gonna use the $20 coupon I got with Wii Music for this and then I'll get another $10 coupon that'll likely go to Sonic Unleashed.
This is the one franchise that I just can't keep buying. Give me updated Mario Karts, Zeldas and Metroids and I'll play them till I die, but after putting a lot of time into the GC one, and a decent amount of time into Wild World, I have no interest in basically playing the game again. It's strange cause it's really the only Nintendo franchise I feel that way about.
Hmm. Well I didn't enjoy the DS version of the game, but mainly because I don't like portable games all that much. I loved the Gamecube version... So being able to play with my friends on my big screen on my comfy couch, with the split controller... WITH voice chat.
I've heard mixed things one the controller situation. I know you can point and click with just the wiimote or use the nunchuck joystick. I really hope the classic controller is an option as well but I will get this game either way.

Because it is impossible to play a DS game on the couch. IMPOSSIBLE!
Or, you know, that.

So, going by the "new features"-list, it's seems that little has changed since the last two games, online play is still limited to occasionaly visiting your friends place and do some things, and thereof I'll pass. I was really hoping they'd go the MMO route in this game, especially since the franchise seems so well suited for that. Well, maybe next time.

I'm not entirely sure how an MMO would work, but if you say so.
Seems too similar to take my life from me again. I'm kind of relieved actually. I was taking my DS to work and taking a bathroom break at 10am everyday to check turnip prices. Yeah.
Really, though, I didn't mind it too much because it was my DS and I could bring it wherever, but having to be at home with time to check stuff everyday doesn't seem doable for me right now.

I'm not entirely sure how an MMO would work, but if you say so.
It'd either force the game to have an entirely different style or be essentially the exact same game.
The restrictions you'd need to put visitors under to keep them from messing up your town, even excluding the type of conectivity Nintendo wants to avoid (and let's be honest, most people don't want to have to put up with the hijinx of Random von Internet), would probably keep you from doing much besides look around towns open to visitors. A lot of gamers think there isn't enough to do in their *own* towns with trees to cut plant or cut down. You'd be better off just keeping an active list of friends.
And by going the opposite route and allowing free reign to tear shit, a lot of game mechanics would need to be altered to accomodate that, if not the whole focus of the game from casual village building to griefer-defense.
I think a MMO would potentially ruin all the fun of a game like AC, but that's just me.
I would've been happy with the core gameplay and vibe staying the same, as long as they overhualed something. Going back to the GC AC after playing the DS version, it was hard to take that step back. Looking at the vids for the Wii version, they look way too similar for me. Wii Speak is nice but it looks like thats the only notable addition.
I'm only nitpicking because I'm such a big fan of the series, and I'm a bit let down. Don't get me wrong, if I get this as a present I'll be playing the shit out of it. But as it stands, it just doesn't look worth my gaming dollars.
A bunch of new information straight from the guide.
All of the new store information for the city
Can there be more people in your house?
As far as I can grasp from the guide, there is only 1 person per house, 4 houses per town, 1 town per Wii. (apparently, I was lied to before about 4 towns per wii)
Is there a store bigger than Nookington's?
No, Nookington's is still the last store expansion.
What stores are in the city?
The City Plaza is open 24/7. That means you can go to the city any time you want, but doesn't mean any stores will be open. You will run into animal friends left and right, whether or not they're living in your town. (I actually like that feature)
All store descriptions are copied out of the guide. Kicks' Shoeshinery- [Appears during fair-weather days] "Kicks is a cool dude who hangs out on the steps to the right of the plaza's fountain, but he only comes out on days when the weather's clear. Stroll up and talk to Kicks, and he'll offer to shine your shoes for just 500 bells. Kicks shines your shoes to match either the color or the style of your outfit. If you choose color, your shoes will look exactly the same, but their color will change to match whatever you're wearing. If you pick style, Kicks will transform your shoes to something that goes with your outfit (dress shoes if you're wearing a skirt, sneakers if you're wearing shorts, etc.). Wear the right outfit and you can change your shoes to any color or style you fancy!"
NOTE: You can only get one shoeshine from Kicks each day. Shampoodle- [Open 8:00am to 9:00pm] "Shampoodle is a cute little salon on the city's right side. Step inside to meet Harriet, a friendly stylist who just loves making folks look oh so lovely. Harriet can either change your hairstyle or give you a total makeover - but it's not cheap! New beauty comes at the high cost of 3,000 bells per visit. Changing your hairstyle is always fun because you never know what new do Harriet will give you. Tell Harriet you want a makeover, though, and she'll change your appearance to any Mii you've created at the Mii Channel! Just pick out the Mii you wish to look like and presto - it's a whole new you! Say, who's that looker? If you ever tire of being a Mii, just visit the Designs menu. There you can take your Mii mask off and put it back on as you please. You can have only one Mii mask at the ready, but Harriet's always there if you want to trade up for a new Mii makeover."
NOTE: Your first makeover from Harriet is free of charge, but you can get only one new hairstyle or makeover from Harriet each day.
CAUTION: Don't erase your Miis or you might lose your Mii makeovers! GracieGrace- [Open 9:00am to 9:00pm] "Pop into the fancy department store at the plaza's north end to visit GracieGrace - a schmancy little shop that stocks only the finest and most luxurious furniture and apparel. Though this is Gracie's store, the fabulous giraffe isn't always around--her assistant, Labelle, handles the store's day-to-day business. All the clothing and accessories you see in GracieGrace have been designed by Gracie. This eans you won't find any of these fashionable goods anywhere else - and you'll be seeing some rediculously high price tags."
(There is a list of all the exclusive furniture and clothing/apparel. I'll make a list somewhere down the line, if it's requested.) Lloid's Auction House- [apparently 24/7. Doesn't specify in the guide] "Stroll into the building to the right of GracieGrace to visit a special auction house run by a funky Gyroid named Lloid. Here you may take part in exciting auctions that can help you earn Bells and track down hard-to-find items. There are two phases to every auction: display periods and bid periods. You can't bid on items during display periods; you may only put items up for display. You may only display one item per auction, however, and you set the base price on how many Bells someone must bid in order to win the item. When the display period ends, the auction shifts to the bid period. Now you can place bids on items you hope to win! Here are the rules to placing bids:
-You may place only one bid per auction.
-You can't see any bids other players make.
-You must have enough bells in your pockets to cover your bid (there's an ABD machine out in the plaza if you need more bells)
-The Bells you bid are held by the auction house until the end of the auction.
-When the auction ends, all items go to the highest bidders. If your bid was the highest, you walk away with the item you bid on.
-If you put an item up for display and someone bids on it, you get the Bells and they get the item
-Bells and items are automatically transferred by the auction house when each auction ends."
NOTE:Lloid will tell you when the next display or bed period of the auction will be held - just ask.
TIP: Ask Lloid about your checkroom and he'll let you browse all the items you've stored inside of cabinets and such within your home. How does Lloid pull this off? Who knows!
TIP: Some of the best items to display at auctions are silver and gold shovels. The normal versions of these tools don't cost much to buy, but it takes time and effort to upgrade them. This means you can usually auction them off for huge profit!
NOTE: If you participate in auctions, you'll periodically receive letters from the auction house. This is the only time you'll see the auction paper.
(They didn't say whether or not you get your bells back for losing an auction.) The Marquee- [Open 10:00am to 11:00pm] "Head into the theater on the plaza's left side to visit a special place known as The Marquee. Here you can watch unique performances by none other than the esteemed Dr. Shrunk himself. Pay the clerk at the window 800 bells, then choose which performance you'd like to see and step into the theater room. Sit wherever you like - the show's about to begin! Dr. Shrunk soon takes the stage and puts on a brief and memorable performance for his audience. What a character! Watching Dr. Shrunk's acts isn't just good for a laugh, it's also the only way to learn emotional expressions performed by your character. Point your Wii Remote at the screen when the show ends and notice that you now have a special icon at the top of your screen. This is an emote icon - highlight it and press A to perform the same emote that Dr. Shrunk just showed you! Neat, huh?"
NOTE: If you're really lucky, a special guest performer may appear in Dr. Shrunk's place.
NOTE: Dr. Shrunk has lots of different emotes to teach you, so visit the marquee often. You can only know four emotes at a time, but you can always swap the ones you've got for new ones. Lyle and the HRA- [once again, no times were specified on store hours] "Duck into the building between the marquee and Gracie Grace to chat with Lyle. The guy can be a bit depressing at times, but Lyle is also your number-one source for tips and info when it comes to the excitement of home decorating. First, Lyle will bend your ear about the Happy Room Academy (HRA) - a special nonprofit organization that rates and reviews the homes in your town. Lyle can sign you up with the HRA so that you'll begin to recieve their evaluations in the mail. You can win fabulous prizes from the HRA if you're smart about decorating, so go ahead and sign up! The back area of Lyle's shop is used to show off a special model room. Lyle and the HRA hold a different contest each week to see which player's town has the best-looking room based on a certain idea (furniture theme, feng shui layout, etc.); whichever room wins gets to be on display here in Lyle's shop. Quite an honor! The neat thing about the model room is that you can actually walk around and fiddle with everything inside. This is a great way to learn the basics of proper home decoration."
NOTE: The HRA will send you regular notices in the mail about the status of your home. This is the only time you'll ever see their special academy papers.
TIP: Lyle evaluates all room of the town for every player. If you're connected to Wii Connect 24, he evaluates all room in town for every connected player, so you'll be up against some stiff online competition!
(That's actually pretty cool) Katrina's Fortunes- [Open 10:00am to midnight] "Enter the shop at the end of the city's right alley to speak with an enchanting feline fortune-teller named Katrina. For the bargain price of just 100 bells, Katrina will gladly read your fortune or place a charm upon you. Your fortune can be a bit vague, but Katrina's charms are a little more useful: They bring you good luck!" Redd's Secret Shop- [Open 10:00am to 1:00am] "Sprint down the city's left alley and knock on the door at the far end for a unique conversation with a strange voice. The person behind the door says his name is Redd, but he also says he doesn't recognize you and won't let you into his shop without an invitation. What gives? Now that you've had your initial dialogue with Redd (however impersonal it might have been), hitch a ride back to town and speak to your neighbors. Sooner or later, one of your pals will ask if you've heard about Redd's shop. Say that you haven't, and they'll tell you all about it. They'll even offer to mail you an invitation! Your neighbor's as good as their word. Check your mailbox the very next day to find a letter from them with the invitation card you need. Make sure to move the letter into your pockets so you can open it and take out the invitation card. You've got to carry the card with you if you're going to show it off to Redd! With your invitation card in hand, return to Redd's and knock on the door. He'll let you right in. Time to see what all the fuss was about! Redd's shop is small and dimly lit, but before you can browse around, you must fork over 3,000 bells as a one-time membership fee. Yeesh! pay Redd if you want to browse his selection of exclusive furniture. Redd also sells rare paintings, which you can buy and then donate to Blathers's museum. Sometimes Redd will carry furniture you could buy for fewer Bells at Tom Nook's shop. Redd does carry a number of exclusive furniture pieces as well, though which you won't find anywhere else."
CAUTION: Redd's a slippery guy and may sell you forged paintings from time to time. You won't know they're forgeries until Blathers examines them, though. The museum won't accept forged artwork, and Redd has a strict no-returns policy, so it's too bad that this shady character is your main source for paintings.
(There's a list of exclusive items here, too. At least the passwords are gone, no?) Resetti Surveillance Center- [Available at 8:00pm on random evenings] "If you're very lucky, you can sometimes visit the Resetti Surveillance Center, workplace of Sonny Resetti (whom you may have met if you've been naughty and reset the game a few times). Dash to the right after stepping off the bus to find a pair of orange construction cones in front of a small tunnel. you usually can't enter this tunnel because of the cones, but check here every evening after 8:00pm and you might notice that the cones are pushed aside, letting you enter the tunnel beyond! There isn't much to see inside the Resetti Surveillance Center except Sonny himself. Speak to him to freak him out that you snuck into his "off-limits" workplace. He begs you to leave and even hands you a silver shovel in the hopes that you'll keep the whole even under wraps. No problem. Sonny!"
NOTE: The silver shovel is just like the normal one, but it causes more bells to pop out of rocks you smack.

Equipment Info
Axe: 400 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Axe: Serena (after throwing an axe into the town fountain)
Golden Axe: Serena (after throwing an axe into the town fountain)
The difference: Silver axes will never break. Golden axes will also never break, and cut trees down much faster.
Net: 500 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Net: 500 bells from Nook's shop (after level 2 upgrade)
Golden Net: From Tortimer after catching every bug.
The difference: the Silver net is a bit bigger than the normal net, while the golden net makes catching bugs 'a breeze'
Shovel: 500 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Shovel: Resetti Surveillance Center
Golden Shovel: Bury a Shovel for four days.
The difference: a Silver shovel gives you a 10% chance for more bells when you're smacking rocks. The Golden Shovel allows you to plant Bell trees.
Fishing Rod: 500 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Rod: 500 bells from Nook's shop (after level 2 upgrade)
Golden Rod: From Tortimer after catching every fish.
The difference: Silver rods have better lures than normal rods, making fishing a bit easier. Golden Rods 'is a real fish magnet!'
Slingshot: 500 bells from Nook's Shop
Silver Slingshot: 500 bells from Nook's Shop (after level 2 upgrade)
Golden Slingshot: Balloon (after shooting at least eight balloons)
The difference: The silver slingshot fires two bullets instead of one, while the Golden slingshot fires three.
Watering Can: 500 bells from Nook's shop
Silver Watering Can: From Nook's Shop after buying 50 bags of seeds
Golden Watering Can: From Town Hall after maintaining a perfect town for 15 days straight.
The difference: The silver watering can has a wider radius for sprinkling water. The Golden can.. well it doesn't say the perks, but I'm pretty sure it severely helps the success rate of plants growing.

It doesn't officially come out until Sunday, but plenty of places (Wal-Mart) have been breaking street date. I'm not sure if anyone else has it yet here.

I'll check that tonight and get back to you. I only had time to start a new one from scratch at lunch. I'll be heading home in a second so I'll get you an answer tonight.
edit: Oh and just to verify, I'm located on the west coast, which means the game is being released on both coasts now. I'd thought it was just on the east coast until i started calling this morning.

Whats awesome is how you read the OP.
I'll give you the highlited version.
1- Clothes are custom, you can design fronts, backs, and sleeves all independantly.
3- There is more of everything, did you think this was just a port? More hats and fish can be seen in videos posted on the last page.
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
Entirely possible, person-with-worryingly-similar-name.
To add to what I said about multiplayer interactivity, they should add various minigames, Club House style. Nothing complex, just the basics, but that provide some more fun to be had with friends. You could even put bells or items as a prize or prize pool in which everyone pitch in before the tourney, or whatever.
That would solve all problems.
I'm calling nintendo out for both laziness and pandering to the casual gamer on this one.
What?! It's $50 for the basic on Amazon, and you get $10 off a future game! You crazy, Gamestop!

Fruit: Peaches, perhaps coconuts soon too!
That say, I will buy the SHIT out of this game. If it gives me as much love as the previous two games... I will be a happy man.
Yeah, but the Cube version was a touched up port of an N64 game. They seriously should have redone the graphics a whole lot more than they did.
I never got into Wild World because I thought it was too much like the original that I played to death. This one is just taking away CoD/ToS/WoG/time from me and my Wii because my girlfriend is a nut for the game and doesn't mind a bare upgrade.
Animal Crossing - 3566 5318 4585/2492 7891 0383 Deacon/Akisha in Crayon
Hah, that's awesome. I'm gonna use the $20 coupon I got with Wii Music for this and then I'll get another $10 coupon that'll likely go to Sonic Unleashed.

The answer could make or break the purchase for me...
Or, you know, that.
I'm not entirely sure how an MMO would work, but if you say so.

Really, though, I didn't mind it too much because it was my DS and I could bring it wherever, but having to be at home with time to check stuff everyday doesn't seem doable for me right now.

I'd like to call you out on this again, by pointing to DeathPrawn's post.
I know what you mean...
Now you're just being petty. Notice where I put the comma... That was splitting up the two.. You know what? Not worth it.

All of the new store information for the city
I'll make a list somewhere down the line, if it's requested.)
Lloid's Auction House- [apparently 24/7.
(They didn't say whether or not you get your bells back for losing an auction.)
The Marquee- [Open 10:00am to 11:00pm] "Head into the theater on the plaza's left side to visit a special place known as The Marquee.
(That's actually pretty cool)
Katrina's Fortunes- [Open 10:00am to midnight] "Enter the shop at the end of the city's right alley to speak with an enchanting feline fortune-teller named Katrina. For the bargain price of just 100 bells, Katrina will gladly read your fortune or place a charm upon you. Your fortune can be a bit vague, but Katrina's charms are a little more useful: They bring you good luck!"
Redd's Secret Shop- [Open 10:00am to 1:00am] "Sprint down the city's left alley and knock on the door at the far end for a unique conversation with a strange voice.
At least the passwords are gone, no?)
Resetti Surveillance Center- [Available at 8:00pm on random evenings] "If you're very lucky, you can sometimes visit the Resetti Surveillance Center, workplace of Sonny Resetti (whom you may have met if you've been naughty and reset the game a few times).

Snowman - This is the exact same Snowman from the gamecube version. Roll one snowball up to its maximum girth. Then roll the other ball to a size just under maximum. If you make the snowman happy, he'll reward you with some snowman furniture via mail.
Wendell - on weekdays between 6am and midnight, if you see Wendell give him some fruit or fish for a chance at scoring some common items, or rare items.
Wisp - It doesn't say what times you'd be able to see him, but I would imagine it's the same as the Gamecube version. If you run into him, help him find his empty lamp. He'll grant you one of three wishes for helping him out. He'll either remove all weeds, smash all roaches in your house, or give you a rare item that's tough to find in stores.
Zipper T. Bunny - Easter event big-headed bunny that 'uses your legs' ... Comes on Bunny Day. He's hidden eggs all over town. When you find one, open it up. If there's bunny foil inside, give it to Bunny for some easter furniture.

Equipment Info
