Man I dedicated like 6 months to Animal Crossing for the GCN. I skipped school on days that there were parties (I know I can set the time, but that's for lamers... I was cool, hated school).
I will probably end up buying this even though I'm disappointed it's basically just WW on the Wii. This time, though, I might not invest months and months into it.
Kupo, if you do a DS transfer, can you tell us if it asks if you'd like to rename your character?
I'll check that tonight and get back to you. I only had time to start a new one from scratch at lunch. I'll be heading home in a second so I'll get you an answer tonight.
edit: Oh and just to verify, I'm located on the west coast, which means the game is being released on both coasts now. I'd thought it was just on the east coast until i started calling this morning.
I'd like to know if the Mii masks can change expressions, or if they're just static masks.

Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
I have spent more time in animal crossing WW then I have in any other game(at least 500 hours over 2-3 years) , and I still freaking play it. I don't think I can handle a new one.

Kupo's FAQ
1) Mii Masks
-Mii masks are purchased as a "Makeover" at the beauty salon in the city. The first one is free however, like most addictive things. It also does expressions like the one in game, luckily though it doesn't show bee sting marks like the normal one. Unfortunately hats glasses etc cannot be worn on your mii mask. Once you put one of those on, it comes off and goes back to your normal face.
2) DS Suitcase
-Ok this was the trickiest thing to me and actually made me look in the booklet. I'll attack this in phases...
Phase 1- Bring your character from Wild World
The bold was done for a reason. You can only bring your CHARACTER from wild world, and not any of your billions of bells, awesome fruit, or tricked out gear. This may be a deal breaker for some but what fun is this game if you don't earn your isht. On the flip side, the game recognizes you having a DS character on the game and supposedly unlocks special items that otherwise wouldn't have been available. This remains to be verified.
Phase 2- Visiting people with your character, without you being on your wii?!
This was the confusing part, but I figured it out thanks to the handy dandy manual. The DS suitcase allows you to take your character, pack it up onto your DS, walk to a friends house, and then DL your character into their wii temporarily to wander around pick fruit and listen to music. This isn't the same as visiting, as only you may wander around the town, but it allows you to go into someone elses city without necessarily being at home. You also keep all of the items you get from your visit as well as any bells earned. This is a huge thing for me as my siblings all have this game, and having the ability to get new kk slider tunes even though I'm visiting them for the weekend is a welcome addition.
Phase 3 - Rename DS Suitcased character?
No renaming screen comes over when you import your character from WW. When I imported my ol' "Kupo" character, he appeared wearing the same pacman shirt as well as ridiculous bleached dragonball hair.
Hope I answered your questions thoroughly enough. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Does your catalogue transfer over? If not you're not getting much from the deal really. Personally I'd prefer if it didn't but I know I'm the exception.

I need to check that actually. I didn't realize. If that's the case I'm ordering myself a cabinet. I'm hurting for storage.
edit: Ok according to other players this is the case, but I'll verify for the PA community at lunch.

Thank you very much for the info, Kupo!
You pretty much answered my questions.
The only other thing I would be curios about is if you have a character on your Town named Kupo, and then transfer your DS character named Kupo, what happens?

Well...that'd take care of my weed problem pretty quick.
Some items I'm sure some people would be excited to hear about.
Tom Nook has a point system like in the ds version again this time. I haven't seen pics of any of them myself, but I've hear the hero's stuff look great.
500 points - Banana (like the Mario Kart weapon)
800 points - Triple Shells (again, Mario Kart)
1,000 points - Yoshi's egg
2,500 points - Bad bro 'stache (It's-a Wario!)
3,000 points - Toad hat
4,000 points - Peach's Parasol
5,000 points - Hero's Clothes, Varia suit, or Wario hat
6,000 points - Hero's cap, Majora's mask, or Samus Mask
6,500 points - Midna's Mask (Twilight Princess)
10,000 points - Kart (from Mario Kart)
Also the english speaking site is now finished. I've seen some new hairstyles!
I forgot to mention that according to the new site's calender there will be mushroom hunting when the game comes out.
Verified. I thought they were just weeds. Turns out you can sell them for a decent amount of bells. Need to check if those can be donated. Post your codes people! And Msg me if you add me. We need to start this fruit trade.
I've never played Animal Crossing before. What sort of game is it? (Aside from addictive as fuck, apparently)
It sorts of looks like the Sims, in a way. You're managing someone's life. The difference is that in Animal Crossing, you live in a fantasy world, it's not some sort of simulation of real life. You chop down trees, buy things for your house, put tapestry in it, you fish, dig up for fossils, plant trees, catch bugs, etc.
You also interact with a variety of anthromorphic animals who you develop relationships with. They visit you, you visit them, some move in, others out, etc.
Since the DS version, you can also visit friends and invite friends in your town, so they can fish and catch bugs with you, see how you decorated your house and town.
The time in-game follows real life. If it's nighttime IRL, it's nighttime in the game. Summer is during summer, winter during winter, etc. You celebrate New Year in the game, among other holidays, some based on real life, some made up.
As the game starts, your house is tiny and you got a debt to pay to an asshole named Tom Nook. When you pay your debt, he makes your house bigger, increasing your debt. Eventually, you get the biggest house and pay your debt. Then, you're free to do whatever you want.
If you don't take care of your town (let's say you stop playing for 3 months then dive back in), many animals will have moved away, there will be cockroaches in your house, the grass will have grown tall in the town and there will be weed around.
The game ends when you're bored and stop playing. It could take days, or years.

If you had to compare it to another game, I'd say Harvest Moon is the closest.
In wild world the animals would actually not move away. You had to be in the town while they were packing for them to actually move. I'm hoping city folk will be this way so if people want to talk a couple of months off, they can and all they will have to do it pull weeds and replant flowers. That also makes me wonder if they brought back the picture collecting. I've heard nothing about that yet.

Picture collecting is back, as is Redd. Though Redd runs his shop out of a back alley in the city now.

Damnit, I'm really tempted to just go and submit to the raccoon on the morrow, but I really can't afford it unless I sell some games, plus I just got Nuts & Bolts, Banjo-Kazooie on Live, and Mirror's Edge.
On a side note, I will be finally playing tomorrow evening. I'm hoping we can throw up our fruit in the auction house. I won't be stingy, so I'll probably do 100 bells per fruit just like Nook would take. I'm also transferring my fairly large catalog over, so if anyone needs/wants specific items, I can maybe hook you up.

Still, a massive improvement on the delay for previous iterations.
Don't expect many improvements beyond that. Badum, pisssh.
I don't think most reviewers know how to review an animal crossing game.
