Well I'll probably wait for the GBA version to come out so I can hear your guy's reviews. I've never played FFVI and I have the option of playing the original on the SNES, the PS1 remake, or this GBA version.
Hopefully next week I'll find out which I should play.
If you've got the option, play it on the SNES. The PSX version had a few niceties, but the load times it had where a massive drawback. Play the PSX version for the nifty CGI intro, then turn it off and wrap yourself up in some warm 16 bit love.
I miss my snes. I shouldn't have hit her, I should have known better when that new console showed up with her fancy discs and 3-d polygon rendered graphics.

I always like being able to identfy what musical themes are referenced. The first time I heard Aeris' theme, I was all "Fuck Yeah!!!"
Man I loved Aeris. And that wasn't her attitude at all. She liked Cloud because of who he reminded her of but on the whole was far more interested in her own shit.
Tell me the final game doesn't have that kind of slowdown in the battles...
You're kidding right? There was hardly any slowdown at all. A little bit with some of the bigger spells, but most of them went that speed in the SNES version.

No way... that's far slower than it was. Everything.. spell effects, weapon swings, even the flashing speed of the fingers pointing at targets. It was all far slower than I remember playing through a few months ago.
It's only been about a year since I played last (albeit not the entire way through) and I definitely didn't notice any particularly nasty slowdown. It at the very least isn't anywhere close to as bad as FFIV and FFV's final boss.
I've not played FFV on the GBA, but watching these FFVI videos make me cringe. It really seems like the videos are being played 2x slower than the game should be.
And if the original game really was that slow and my memory is tainted, then may God help us all. :?
It's not just you. I thought it was playing slow as well. It's not as if the video went faster or slower compared to the audio like I've seen happen on some YouTubes. The audio was always perfect with the video. The game was definitely slower than usual.

Still, if they can't do it right, don't do it at all(I have the same problem with DKR where they apparently took out a couple of things).
I've been playing it and haven't noticed any slowdown. I was, however, kind of taken aback to find that my beloved Whelk is now called "Ymir," like the Japanese version. Biggs does refer to him as a "lightning whelk," though.

At the end of part 2 of the video, watch the airship flying. The Mode7 section was clearly choppier than the SNES game was... it was fast and fluid then.
I'm just assuming at this point that it's a side effect of the emulation+video capturing going on. =crosses fingers=
The game looks exactly like it did at the time of its SNES release. Aside from the new dialogue portraits, no new art has been added. Despite the lack of a graphical upgrade, the game slows down during the more elaborate spell effects, though gameplay is never affected by it.

They'll just throw "WITH NEW DRAMATIC SPELL TIME EFFECTS!" on the back of the box and it'll become a feature.

The newer trailer that was released tonight looks much better, thankfully. Slowdown is there, but only in small amounts on certain spell effects, and that could even be because of the capture.

What drugs are you on? The whole video is slow compared to FFVI. The physical attack animations are noticeably slower, as are the beginning of all spells (like the "heart" that appears when you cast a healing spell). Watch these videos (spoiler alert, final battle):

Yes there is slowdown, but the more recent trailers seem to have a lot less than the video linked above (which looks like it was capture from nefarious methods that cannot be meantioned here  )
That being said, it looks like damn near the entirety of FF6 is up on youtube already, thats gonna put a dent in productivity today.
Well, time for the longest weekend yet for 2007. COME ON TUESDAY!
Needs more frontpageyness.
But yeah, Tuesday can't get here soon enough. This game is probably going to cause me to miss a train stop or two (most of my portable gaming these days gets done on the train).
Seriously.. what were people expecting from this game? To run faster than the SNES Versions? Just take a look back at the other FF GBA releases, aside from the simplicity of FF1/2. This is the kind of work SE believes it can release to the public. A slightly slower frame rate during battles, but on a system you can take with you.
Why even the shock or discussion? Of course it's going to have slow downs. It's the biggest of the games we'll see released on the GBA with FF as a name.
But at least most can agree that even with the slowdowns, it'll be a gem of a game, purchase, entertainment font.
I'd still make the trip to the Grand Canyon from Florida, even if my car only topped at 45MPH. Cause it's just that beautiful.
Also Terra in downtown Tokyo, for the Japanese Commercial, rocks.
Boo. It's the blonde hair shitty amano version. (Although I guess technically the green-haired version is amano too, but never mind!)
Still, that did look quite a lot like the art.
Speaking of art, does the GBA version have new portraits like the other FFs that have been rereleased? I actually kinda hope not, I liked the old ones.
I always imagined her as having blonde hair with chemical chlorine green. Most like the commercial.
For some reason I had no problem with Rydia. She was all green. Carpet and drapes.
But Terra to me had more depth.. more.. class? So she didn't come off as Anime-ish to me. Plus yeah, having the two huge guides for FF6, chalk full of art.. it was a very light green.
Okay whatever. Least we can all agree Locke had gray hair, right?
And no, they use the same old portraits.

Excellent.
Yeah, Terra's hair has always been all over the place, anywhere from very very green (in game spite) to full on golden blonde in some of the art. I think I prefer the green, mostly for story reasons making her more unusual.
But yeah, Lockes hair is usually grey/brownish-grey, not that anyone usually cares

Just the whole "Hi Cloud. BE MY BOYFRIEND I LOVE YOU LET'S GET MARRIED" got old fast.
Bitch was lucky she was a kickass caster.
