Shops sell it so just travel around and talk to merchants and you will find ammo for it. I usually never break 100 rounds though since I use the scoped magnum a lot.

What's the best way to do the Mirelurk quest?

Someone mentioned a super easy way to do it but I can't find the instructions. Something about sneaking through a different entrance?

Scrounger perk may have been good, but it seems like most of the .44 ammo I've found has been from merchants. 5, 10, 5.66 seems to be 90% of what I find in ammo boxes. I've got thousands of each and no use for them.

Even flamer fuel seems more plentiful than .44 ammo.

I've just finished the quest line with the Family. It is one of the most gloriously fucked-up things I have ever seen, especially if you spend the time to dig into the dialog. IAN FUCKING RIPPED HIS OWN PARENTS APART IN A MOMENT OF INSANE BLOODLUST, AND THEN THE PSEUDOVAMPIRES OF THE FAMILY DRANK THEIR BLOOD TO PROTECT HIM. It's been a while since I've played a game that rewards going through the dialog tree in that way, and I am loving it. Reminds of the old-school Lucas Arts games.

That's not what I took from that quest at all.
I was under the impression that the vampires did it, or the head vampire did it, and simply brainwashed the kid into thinking he did it so he would join their clan.

If you dig a bit deeper into his history...
He admits that he once tore a man's throat out with his teeth to save his sister's life. She used to hug him to make him not kill people when he went crazylike.

Leveling mods strike me as a really clunky deal, why not just set your level manually if you want to see low level enemies? The console commands are quick and easy. That crippling mod looks like a wonderful thing to me though.

Casey's Garage is the entrance, or some such. If you come across something with Garage in the name and it's a building with an interior go elsewhere. It's in the northern bit of the south western quarter of the map.

If you go in there you skip pretty much all of the of the city, a looooooot of gametime, but those bits are mostly skippable as you go along anyway, depending on what you do.

Since ammo weighs nothing and sells for at worse 2 bullets to 1 cap... you don't even need to bother with either perk.

One waltz through a Super Mutant infested area and I came out with 1000 5mm rounds for miniguns. That's 500 caps to buy ammo with, or whatever.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to make ammo weightless... *sigh*

    I'm glad they did.

In F1 and F2 I'd be tweaked out in power armor and have high strength and 200pounds of my inventory would be ammo.

also, with scrounger and fortune finder, I find way more than 500equivilant caps you get from selling ammo, in every place i go to.

I remember walking out of one place with about 1500 caps, between fortune finder and a good luck score.

I have about 90 stealthboys on my person, and I find on average another 4-10 per enemy I kill.

Oh wait, those are rifle bullets. But the dead can no longer see, so it's all good! I don't have ammo problems, but I choose my weapon for the situation. Almost always hunting rifle. Close combat calls for a combat shotgun. I have a chinese assault rifle for crowd control, and a 10mm smg for when I don't want to waste rifle or assault rifle ammunition.

The commando perk is awesome, combined with my 70 small guns skill. VATS quickly became an object lesson to the evildoers of the wasteland!

I don't know. That limitation made me play a little smarter. Knowing that I'd have to give up weight to carry the ammo. That level of resource management is part of what contributed to the "surviving the wastelands" aspect of the series itself...

at least up to the point when one headshot from my sniper rifle killed 90% of the mobs in the game.

Those of you doing a lot of exploring, you might want to wait until you've reached the part of the main story where you... Uh, how to not spoil anything... Where you can get taught to use power armor. It (events in the main story, not the armor) adds significantly to the random encounters you can find while exploring, and it's much more fun.
I love shooting down Enclave helis. Particularly if I notice them quickly enough to kill the guys who get out with the GIANT explosion.

On an unrelated note, I've explored pretty much all of the map but I can't find

. Any tips on locating them so I can finish the game and move on down my playlist?

Nice... I have the caps one and will take the Ammo perk right after taking Commando. Caps is nice, I randomly get 25-75 caps from random boxes AND they seem to respawn faster than the rest of the areas (read: I can leave a place, come back in, and some of the random desks will have caps in them out of the blue).

However, all things considered, I probably would have been better off skipping the Caps one and just getting hte Ammo perk, since you can sell Ammo for Caps.
