I'm going to ask again since it kind of got buried in the middle of another post which itself was buried by the flood of other posts:

    About the Talon Mercs:
I snuck into a base of theirs (THE base?) and killed Commander Jabsco, but I still get Talon Mercs trying to collect contracts on me. Now, I didn't really clear out the base to avoid this, but I'm wondering if there's more to it than what I know or if it's even possible to get them to stop in the first place.

I FUCKING SLAUGHTERED THEM ALL. They better not come back. I assumed that by killing their commander they can no longer receive contracts.

Man new thread already, so many end-game spoilers to avoid. Y'all will have all beaten the game like 2+ times i'm done. I'm 50+ hours in and i'm just barely starting the GNR stuff. Think once i finish Washington's quest i'm gonna go sidetrack to Paradise Falls and make some new friends and get myself a travelling companion. Then, MAYBE, i'll get back too the main quesdt. Thank god there's no time limit like in Fallout 1.

Anyone know the day and date when you escape the vault? I wanna see how long it's been.

In Fallout 1, yes. In 2, no, I've levelled characters up by massacring the first couple villages for xp. Only works with melee/unarmed dudes, though.

Im on my 2nd playthrough and Im level 16 without having been to megaton yet.

One caveat though - since I got sick of almost dying in some areas I console added knowledge on power armour use.

I was NOT going to leave my sweet ass outcast armour I found just lying there.

EDIT: I'm killing anyone rude to me. There is no paradise falls anymore. They met the wrath of the lincoln repeater rifle.

Question, not a huge spoiler since it's at the very beginning, i don't think, but in case:
at the beginning of the game when heading to the overseers office I heard them questioning Amata, so i busted in and beat mack and the overseer to death with a bat. After, Amata wouldn't talk to me and so I went to the previous save and bypassed them this time and went straight for the tunnel. Should I have killed them or does it even matter?

God, I was having a complete blast with this game, what with the Rock It Launcher and Bloody Mess, but then I got through the story up to Vault 112. This game just continues to climb to new peaks of awesomeness. The first thing I tried to do? Pull out my Pip-Boy to see what the hell was going on, and all I got was
    a little kid's pip-boy watch! Hells yeah!
Then I talked to "her" and did a few tasks...then it took a turn for the evil

The Laser Pistol sucks. I repaired one to nearly full condition, and it still deals like 8 damage. They're not really that scarce, and if you're short on ammo or want to save wear on your other guns, then it may be worth carrying around for the 3 weight. But investing the points into Energy Weapons to use it in VATS would be a complete waste. I just picked up a Laser Rifle, and it appears to have a good deal more kick, but so far, they're light on the ground.
For anyone who's wondering exactly how wrong this guy is, I'll tell you right now: he's dead wrong. That laser pistol you find in the Super-Duper mart will last you up until the goddamned Citidel, where you can trade it in for a laser rifle, and even then it nice to keep for raiders and weaker critters.

I'm playing through right now with high perception and intellegince, and the energy weapons skill has been great. You make so much money selling all the small guns and ammo you find, and Moira generally stocks enough energy cells, that you never have any problems. And you can just get traders to repair it. The only creatures that give me problems are the super mutant brutes, but frag grenades and bottlecap mines work well enough on them.

tl;dr Energy Weapons is a perfectly viable skill choice, even in the early game.

You lose karma for furthering their torment, and gain karma for releasing them from it in the only way possible. It isn't so much odd as morally ambiguous.

    MONUMENTAL SPOILERS
The little girl is the doctor who runs the vault. He's been doing sick social and psychological experiments on the people in it using various artificial scenarios, playing them against each other to probe the limits of what their psyche can handle and so forth. The people are kept only subconsciously aware of the situation, at least one of them seems to have a vague idea upon direct questioning, though. The doctor implemented a safeguard system so he could end the entire mess when he was through, but the vault was designed to prevent him from killing himself, even with the safeguard program activated. By killing the people, you leave him stranded in there forever, alone.

Meh, energy weapons are viable perhaps, but I'm still not really interested...there is a small gun (or two) for most of the combat situations you can find yourself in, but putzing around with a laser pistol for however long it takes you to get a rifle (which is not astoundingly better) just doesn't appeal to me.

The energy weapons are fine, I'd just take the variety of all the small guns over them any day. And if small guns don't appeal to you, then melee and big guns are both fun options too.

The overseer created that vault project as a means to basically live forever and keep working on whatever he wanted but as the years went by he found out that all he wanted to do was make people suffer and be miserable. Since he has total control over the matrix like world he just invents new situations for him to watch the same people get killed over and over.

If killing the people who have been killed over and over for 200 years isn't doing the right thing I dunno what you think it would be.

Good or bad doesn't come down to kill or don't kill. It is very dependent on the situation, especially in Fallout.

Also you know you could get the
    alien blaster
at the start of the game and have a god like energy weapon for the whole game. Not to mention just go out with 10 luck
and you will have a decent supply of alien powercells from the ship crashes
