Running the Wii through a video capture card

I'm trying to play my Wii on a computer monitor, using an Avermedia Capture Card to run it through my computer. I've been told to use dscaler, but it doesn't work, I keep getting errors on it, and can't do any video input. The software that came with my capture card does not seem to allow me any video input; the help files tell me to use menu options that I simply don't have. Does anyone know a good alternative to dscaler, or any trouble shooting ideas that may help?

I'm running vista 64, have a 4870 video card, over 3 GHz dual core.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If nobody knows how to solve this, can somebody tell me a good alternative to dscaler? WHatever program people recommend for video capture of console games, preferably free, but I guess I could pay a little more if necessary.

EDIT: Or, what do people think of something like this? It should upscale from 480i to 480p, right?

Which Avermedia card are you using?

Did the card not come with its own capturing software? Have you tried using windows movie maker?

Yes, the card came with capturing software, but I can't seem to capture video with it. The help file tells me to click on a certain menu that I don't have, and to select options that I don't have.

How do I capture with Windows Movie Maker? It seems to only accept video cameras.

EDIT: Windows just popped up an unprompted message, saying that "Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run." So if the drivers were installed properly, but they don't work... I dunno, how would I fix this?

OK, I've got the capture card working, now I have a new problem. Dscaler is all ugly and laggy, VLC is uglier and laggier, the program that came with it is great, but doesn't allow full screen, and I can't figure out how to get windows movie maker to show the captured video. Can anyone help me with the software? Thanks.

you might be able to run the card through windows media center which is in most of the versions of vista. Vista was picky and would not let me use my capture card in that but if it works it might be better than the other programs.
