I came across a strange random encounter yesterday. I was wandering around and saw the telltale signs of an enclave camp. I wander up only to find a wounded giant scorpion surrounded by dead enclave and raiders. This by itself isn't strange but after finishing it off I go to loot the corpses only to find two of the raiders wearing raider armor with an enclave helmet and one of the enclave wearing enclave armor with a raider mask. I wish I'd taken a screenshot.
I've seen raiders run over and grab Supermutant Miniguns in desperation, so it's not impossible that they killed the Enclave guys and looted them...
Yes, but why wouldn't they take the armor, as well? Also, why would the enclave soldier be wearing a raider mask (that's the one that confused me the most)?
Yeah I just came across Dogmeat. Left him in my house though, it's annoying having him alert enemies when I'm trying to be stealthy. Sometimes it would work out though, because they'd focus on him and I would remain hidden.
Finally built the Shishkabab. So awesome. Fucking critical'd a dude and watched his flaming head soar away from his body in slow motion.
You may want to reconsider leaving dogmeat in your house. He went missing when I tried that.
I told dogmeat to go to the Vault and that seems to keep him from randomly popping up out of nowhere.
Finally got around to visiting Cantebury Commons last night, and did that whole "battle" scenario completely as a goody two shoes, and now have two suits displayed in my house.
Also, as it turns out, two of the caravan traders in my game are dead now, through no fault of my own. Wolfgang died really early, I heard some gun shots while I was exploring the waste, and as I rounded a barn, there he was, dead as a doornail.
Doc whatsis (the food guy) got attacked by a Yao Gui outside of Cantebury, and I killed it just as it landed the killing blow.
But then I get bad karma for stealing the crap off of their brahmin? What the hell, they're already dead.
Then I return to megaton to find that Lucas Simms has randomly died. I find him in in the pool of waste surrounding the bomb. Now I have TWO dusters 8-)
Blood content will undergo moderation, according to Bethesda (translated press release), and the game's 'Power of the Atom' side-quest will no longer feature the option to detonate a nuclear bomb. The name of a weapon has also changed as it was deemed "inappropriate" for the country.
Come on, Japan needs a game that teaches the joy of nukes.
I find it funny that they have no problem with various world war II games, where they play as Americans slaughtering the Japanese in historically acurate photorealism.
But detonating a fake bomb, in a fake town, in an alternate reality game thats 200 years in the future, is somehow bad.
I think that, perhaps, the tentacle rape has damaged their brains.
Try selling a game in the US that involves crashing a plane into an office tower. Then get back to us.
I do it quite often in San Andreas.
Well, I haven't played San Andreas, so I can't speak to that. I have to imagine, though, that there isn't an immenent building collapse that kills dozens of firemen and office workers, or a smoking crater afterwards.
There's also the fact that compared to Hiroshima, 9/11 was just another day in the park in terms of relative population decimation and lasting effect on the area.
There are lots of reasons why the Japanese would object to the idea of kids being rewarded in a videogame by setting off a nuclear weapon. I don't think they're being totally unreasonable.

On my good playthrough I am roleplaying that my character feels so bad about these random good guy deaths that she drag the corpses with her home (little use of console commands to move bodies through loading zones), so I got a pile of corpses in my bedroom (Lucy, Nathan, Railroad girl, walter, Nathans wife).
Sure it's insane but there is no reason you can't be good and insane at the same time.

If you dont gib them with the fatman the villagers will think you are using the bodies in perverted ways.
So I started a second game, wanting to play a good guy this time.
I figure I'd start with Melee and Sneaking as my main combat skills, right?
Well after a little bit of play, I'm beginning to think this is not a viable way of combat for this game. Most enemies used range combat and it is very hard to sneak up on a room full of Raiders.
I'm going to keep at it, and see if the perks that benefit melee and sneaking will help.

I did Melee/Energy Weapons and I hated every minute of melee. The best melee weapon I had found (didn't have deathclaw yet) was the shishkabob and it was a pain in the proverbial ass to find the parts to make it so I can keep it near fully repaired. I tried to use the dart gun/melee combo but having to wait for the stupid dart gun to reload before pulling my melee meant most enemys were ontop of me and untill you get Power Armour that you can keep fully repaired your a pin cushion. Also; don't bother trying to use any sort of rare hard to find armour. You'll need to repair it every other fight as a melee person.
Needless to say I am happy I accidentally saved over my only save of my melee play through.

I like to keep my insanity into small bouts of snapping and killing everyone, and then reloading a save.
It's like my guy is a really good guy, but sometimes he has visions of killing everyone in an area. Then he snaps out of it. Life in the wastelands is tough, who doesn't have the occasional fantasy about beheading Edgar Wellington III and using his head (more specifically, his smug face) to taunt his wife, and the other residents?
It's not like my character really acts on these impulses, at least not according to the game. Oh no, we're saving that for the second time through, after his sex change.

Do not go with Melee. Its completely impractical. Very few enemies use melee, especially later on and Stealth isn't sufficient enough to sneak up on every foe and I don't think many Melee weapons do as much damage as a fully repaired shotgun or rifle.
I do wonder what the game would be like, I mean there are parts near the end where you are FORCED to use some medium/long range combat while protecting people. If you don't have anything in small guns I can imagine it being a true fucking pain.

This happened in vault 101 after I sorted everything out peacefully and the bastards were still kicking me out. Of course good guy so reload and whatnot. Still, that flaming Amata skull was all kinds of beautiful.

Yeah, he's outside. Look for the green arrow on the top of the compass.
And of course Edgar Wellington II's head was on fire when I was carrying it around. Like I'm gonna carry around some non-flaming head, what's the fun in that?
e: I'm kind of glad that I didn't play the first two fallouts. Nearly all of the complaints I've seen leveled at this game are about the ways it is different from the first two games, and without that knowledge I get to enjoy the game for what it is, not what I think it should be.
I'll probably go back and play them eventually, though, just because.
The first time I got to Megaton, Deputy Weld was under attack, and killed by Raiders.
Last night, he was up and walking around again, killing moles. Does he randomly get repaired if he's "killed"?
Essential NPCs don't die, they just have happy sleepy time fun.
No, I'm pretty sure he was dead. As in, lootable dead. And his corpse was laying there by the front door for several in-game days. Usually, upon zoning out of Megaton, his corpse would spawn just above the ground, then fall with a crash.
It wasn't like the Paladins outside GNR that kept getting back up after a few moments.
Then again I've never played the original Fallouts.
Soil erosion? Am I missing a pun or something?
It isn't twitch gameplay, it isn't rated T, the level scaling is probably a bit less net result than Fallout 2's level based encounters, and the only Fallout canon it steps on is the Fallout Bible, which Black Isle said regularly wasn't canon anyway.
Ventured around NMA a few days back, was kind of impressed about how nearsighted they are. There was whining because the Brotherhood in FO3 has refurbished/ramshackle power armor, but nobody seems to remember that they already did this in Fallout 1, as well, decades earlier - Fixing a set was one of the ways to get power armor, in fact.
And why is there this obsession that somehow killing two figurehead leaders and a small garrison of troops will permanently wipe out the Enclave on a national level? It was mentioned here in one of the past threads, too. Knocking out a government that's survived the apocalypse isn't that easy. In Fallout 3, after killing the president and vice president, it doesn't even break the Enclave's power in California - they're still all over the place. Taking out Eden and Raven Rock probably won't be a long term setback even.
Then again I've never played the original Fallouts.

I don't get the wee Linkin Park guy. The music isn't Linkin park...Is that meant to be what fans of Bethesda are like?
I was looking at NMA a bit and some guy really hated exploding cars, is there some reason why this is sacrilege or are these guys just tools?
edit:
There's Linkin park music? Is that the overworld stuff because I just listened to GNR and now listen to Tom Waits and The Clash instead.

It's also largely fallacious. It doesn't shit on cannon, and no way in hell is it "twitch gaming." Fallout 3 is not Fallout or Fallout 2, and in no way does it try to be...the comparisons are natural, but all the hate is really unwaranted. If I didn't like the game, I'd just play one of the others.

They pretty much consider anything thats not isometric and made by black isle to be some affront to their religious beliefs.
So in other words, Yes...they are just tools.

You know what kind of sucks? At the time I started playing this game on my PC, I did not log in to my XBox/Windows Live account because I could not connect to the internet on my new computer. I've since resolved the issue and signed my PC up for XBL, only now I can't access any of my previous saves! It let me Continue from my last point, but the only game saves that are available in the Save/Load menus are the ones that I created after signing up with Windows Live.
Of course, this is complete bullocks because if for some reason I can't access the internet, I still can't play Fallout 3, as all these most recent saves have been tagged with my Xbox account. Pretty dumb.

I don't listen to any music. Because it's broken. Because this game is a bug-ridden piece of shit. That I love so much, despite all it's developers needing to be flogged.

Same thing happened to me. I was going to restart anyway, so I didn't care. If I was you, I'd check the file structure, the saves may be under profile folders? U may be able to get them back, the Achievements probably won't grandfather in, but maybe u can get ur saved games back.
Where's the Linkin Park music? Even if it's the worst shit they put out, it'll be a welcome change from GNR's playlist. Shit, I've been listening to the old lady with the violin for the last few hours I've played.
It seems a lot of you guys haven't found Linkin Park in the game.
You can find a couple quests there, like "Find a razorblade and cut yourself for attention." It's also the only place you can find the schematics for the Aural Assault Gun, which cripples heads immediately.
It's one of the only towns you can completely wipe out and gain karma by doing so.

Thanks, I'll do some digging and see if I can get the saves back. I'm not too worried about the achievements. I'll get them on later playthroughs.
Also, I require a duster. I'm guessing the only way to get one is to waste Lucas Simms. This is unfortunate, as I am basically a saint of the wasteland. Also, my house is in Megaton and offing the Sheriff might make living there somewhat inconvenient.

I like listening to Scenic World by Beirut for LOLirony.

You can get dusters from Regulators who hunt you for being evil.
There are Talon merc camps in game though so I assume there are regulator camps as well where you could kill a few of them to gain their dusters; I just haven't found them.

Essential NPCs don't die, they just have happy sleepy time fun.
Was he killed or "knocked unconscious?"
Because he can die.

They pretty much consider anything thats not isometric and made by black isle to be some affront to their religious beliefs.
So in other words, Yes...they are just tools.

You can find a couple quests there, like "Find a razorblade and cut yourself for attention." It's also the only place you can find the schematics for the Aural Assault Gun, which cripples heads immediately.
It's one of the only towns you can completely wipe out and gain karma by doing so.
There really is nothing like killing dudes in a post apocalyptic wasteland while listening to Sinatra croon "I've got the world on a string."
What a world, indeed.

Much laughing was had.
I like listening to Scenic World by Beirut for LOLirony.
edit:
You can get dusters from Regulators who hunt you for being evil.
There are Talon merc camps in game though so I assume there are regulator camps as well where you could kill a few of them to gain their dusters; I just haven't found them.
