I just looked over at my game collection, and winced as I saw about 5 titles that i've barely touched, much less beaten. Between that and my endearing habit of dropping games wholesale when I get to the end, I haven't finished many recently. But it didn't always use to be this way. What happened to my voracious gaming appetite? Time was I could go through 10-15 games in a month, now i'm lucky if I beat 2 or 3 in a year.
How long does it take you? Do you grab that new release and devour it, or sip slowly and then ditch it for the next?

It's counterintuitive, but the more time you spend posting on game forums, the less incentive you have to actually play games. I know, weird isn't it?
Shame I have to work to make money, I know.

I've got games that I had for over several months and haven't beaten them because I've been playing through other games and I may play through some titles completely from beginning to end within a week or two before resuming playing through older additions to my collection. One big reason why it's been taking me so long to finish the games that I have is because I've been pretty busy with college, ROTC, and exercise.
I vary enormously.
Some within a couple of days, others I stretch out over months.
Doesn't even necessarily have anything to do whether I enjoy them or not, just whether I feel compelled to rush or make them last.
New release? I haven't had one of those in a while.
Typically I'll spend a lot of time on a game and then just give up on it. For instance, I restarted Bloodlines something like 3 or 4 times, made it all the way to Chinatown, then stopped playing. It's sad.

It really depends if the game sucks me in or not. Have little to do with difficulty level actually, unless it's way too high.
Games that do suck me, I can complete very quickly since I'll spend every free minute on them. See : Persona 3, Mario Galaxy
If it doesnt, I may have it since release and still not being done. See : Fire Emblem Wii

Funny you mention Dragon Quest. I got 8 in the mail at the end of september, and I've only been able to clock 40 hours in so far. Sounds like I should be close to done, but from what I've come to expect from the series, I think I'm only half way there. Tough to find time during the weeks right now. Fuck upper division classes.
I hope for Saturday/sunday mornings when my gf is sleeping, or maybe an hour before classes monday wednesday and friday. Tough balance.
It usually takes me forever if it's a game I enjoy.
See, I have this thing where if I'm really enjoying a game, I don't want it to end. So right when I hit the point where I'm like, "THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!" I tend to put it down and not pick it up again unless I force myself to do it.
I bought the 360 for Oblivion when that game launched and I still haven't beaten it yet. I've made a few characters, gotten through the Mage's guild with one and am currently playing a thief. I wonder if I'll ever get around to the main quest line. I'm still having quite a bit of fun with it though. I bought Shivering Isles when it came out and just a month ago set foot into that world and then abruptly reloaded a save before that and went on about my business in Cyrodil.
I went on a game beating spree a year or so ago. I ended up beating The Darkness, FEAR and a couple others. It just felt like it was time to be done with those games.

If the president had any real power, he'd be able to live wherever the fuck he wanted.
If by finish we mean the developers play "guess what the hell you're suppose to do here", then about 10 hours. I hate that shit and it ranks right up there with "useless fucking mini-game that is filler" which consistently occurs around 10 hours in a game.
Otherwise, I'm a slow gamer. I just "finished" Monster Rancher 2 after 4 years of playing it off and on. My average is about 3 games a year since I'm so slow however. ((My backlog is not very large surprisingly because I only allow 20 games to rack up before I don't buy anymore, although since the ps2 is going out the door for most retailers I'm really starting to go buy crazy lately. ))
I tend to finish pretty fast and replay a lot, since I rarely have the money for games. Despite that tendency, though, I still have a huge backlog of stuff I'm 90% of the way through.

I get a fair bit of value out of my games, I spend as much time as possible exploring and completing side quests/objectives before the main plot (if it works this way) say for games like Fable 2, Fallout 3 and such, If I can do as much as possible its not just another "This game sucks I piss-bolted through it" game.
After I've worn out a few playthroughs I go to "Gamebreaking" where I try the most stupid things possible to find bugs/glitches and stuff.
I don't keep track of hours anymore, but most games seem to take about a week of playing a few hours after work each day, and then diving in for the long haul over the weekend. Fallout 3 is the first game in a long time to break that record, and I've probably logged more hours in it than my previous record of 80 for two consecutive playthroughs of KotOR.
I started playing Final Fantasy VI in high school.
Now I have been out of college for years, married, and own a dog. Still not done with it yet I still have the save game hoping that I one day might. But I think kids might put that off for another few decades.
It took me over three years to beat Dragon Quest VII, in part because about 55 hours in my PS1 memory card finally gave out on me after many years and it took me several months to get over it and start fresh.
I still haven't beaten GTA: San Andreas, although I did finish GTA IV.
I think my record is Mike Tyson's Punch Out. I finally beat Mike Tyson in 1995. You do the math.

Also MMO addiction can completely fuck up your game beating percentage.
It took me until this past year to get my backlog from 2004-2006 down to nothing because of WoW.
