How to remove melted plastic from dishwasher?

So I had a plastic tupperware top fall on the heating element at the bottom of my dishwasher. It's melted onto the metal element and also onto part of the wire that supports it. I was able to remove most of the plastic from it, but there's maybe 1.5 inches of melted plastic that's adhered to the element. Has anyone had this happen and if so what did you do?

I've got a load of dishes I need to wash tonight and I'm worried to use the washer again in it's current state.

Thanks,

BP

I've removed melted plastic with a razor blade. It was just a single metal heating element, about a centimeter thick, bent into a large "C" shape.

Razor blade and I've had limited success heating it back up for removal with both a hair drier and soldering iron too. Razor blade worked best by far.

A hot razor knife works well, too. I had to make use of a heated razor to get some epoxy off of plastic. Epoxy is hard as fuck.
