Moving to Kanata/Ottawa

Hey all,

As the title implies, I'm moving to Kanata/Ottawa. I was wondering if anybody who lives in Kanata would be able to check out a place for me? I'd like to have an unbiased person have a look and take some pictures. I'm going to spend 4 months of my life there and before I send some people I've never met my first and last months rent, along with a security deposit, Id love to have it looked at.

SO! If anyone is in that area and willing, PM me and we can set something up.
Thanks much!

    I'm 20, and will be making about $3,200 - $taxes CAN a month.

I'd prefer to live in Ottawa itself and enjoy the nightlife etc, but from what I can tell it looks like it would be an hour and half busride, to and from work (which is in Kanata) every day. I can't justify that, so i figure Ill just live in Kanata and spend my weekend days out in the city.

    It's spelled "Canada", not "Kanata".
    Totally joking

That's pretty much it. The only thing there isn't a lot of one person residential areas... There are good areas between the two, like Westboro or Nepean which may work a little better.

Kanata is really for old people and young families. Trust me, I live in Stittsville which is even further away from downtown.

I'll second Nepean. My sister and her husband live there, around Baseline Road. Their place is 5 minutes off the highway, which means it takes them maybe 20 minutes to drive right into the heart of downtown. Their neighbourhood is fairly typical apartment/condo residential, with good access to grocery stores, so they pretty much have the best of both worlds.

If you're going to be commuting in the Ottawa area, you want to be heading *out* of the city every morning, not into it.

That's exactly where I live, so I can third that. :P

A lot of student housing around here because of Algonquin. The buses are decent, even on weekends.

I'm busmap retarded, and have an incredibly hard time understanding them. Are there basically express routes that can get to Kanata in around 20 minutesish from Nepean (during peak hours, aka, in the morning/after work)? Route 101 looks like it'd be the one I'd need.

Is there much in Nepean in terms of nightlife, or would I still probably need to head into downtown to experience that. Any guesstimate what a capfare like that might be?

Thanks for the help so far guys. Living in Kanata itself looks like it would be lame, so I'm glad to maybe have some options.

Where in Kanata are you working? It's actually not a terribly small place in area. Busses can take a while to get around.

To put it into perspective you can fit the metro centres of the five other big cities in Canada in the area which is called Ottawa.

But yeah no nightlife in Nepean except for a couple bars on Merivale. Cab fare is 70 out to Kanata and probably about 50 to Nepean from all the good downtown spots.

I'll be working at Alcatel-Lucent (on March road), from what I was able to glean for the Ottawa Transport website, it looks like theres great busses from Nepean to Alcatel.

I guess I'm just wondering where a young man like myself might want to live to try to enjoy the experience of Ottawa, without being majorly inconvenienced by commute times. I won't have a car, so Ill have to rely on the ol' legs and public transit.

    Thanks a ton.

(P.S. You get major fucking bonus points for being an EnB fan.)
