Did you know Cap'n Magneto now runs under OSX? It's true:

    http://www.capnmagneto.com/download.html

I know I'm not the only one who played that. I had a friend who somehow got that manticore thing at the end to become friendly. I was impressed.

The only reason I don't have an active game of EV Nova running is because I have an active game of X3.

EDIT: I know very little about Mac gaming, but in related puzzle-gaming goodness, I remember being insanely jealous that I wasn't able to play 3 in Three.

I'll never remember the name on my own, but there was one a buddy of mine had which was a 2D platformer/puzzle game. Every enemy and your own character was displayed as a silhouette. There was no save function, so I remember the beginning very vividly: You get sucked through a portal while sitting at your desk programming something, and pop out of nothingness underwater. You have to start swimming upward or some crazy tentacle thing grabs you and sucks you down to your death. After perhaps a minute of running and evading guys, someone whacks you over the head and you end up in a cage suspended over a gorge. The only option for escape is to swing the cage until the chain breaks and it falls on a guard.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

You are talking about Out of this World. It was released for a lot of different platforms. Good stuff.

    Also called Another World.

This shit is like the scariest game ever made. And it's more or less the first fps ever made, the first horror ever made, and the first best game ever made.

Abso-fucking-lutely. There was no music (that I can remember), and the aliens were about as far from the mutated monstrosities of Dead Space as you can get, but the game was utterly nerve-wracking. I'll never forget turning a corner and saying "OH SHIT A QUEEN BACK UP BACK UP RUN RUN RUN!" I'd usually get vaporized at that point.

If we mention Number Munchers where is Sticky Bear, Gertrude's Secret or Below the Root?
I guess those are too classic.

Since Glider came up, anyone interested in getting a Glider leaderboard going?

Maybe pick a specific House, and for a week or two everyone plays it and posts their top scores. Maybe some sort of Grand Prix, which awards points according to placement on the board for the week, and after five or six weeks declare a "grand champion."

I'm bumping this because I just acquired an old fruity iBook with 64 meg of RAM and OS 9.2. I'm giving it to my little sister and need free software for it.

Anybody got any links? The internet is not very helpful. I did get Glider from last page, thanks for that.

I was thinking about this game the other day. I remeber playing the shareware first level. There was some cool stuff. I hated the stupid witch with the glowing dagger. "oh here I helped you, Now let me into the damned shop, No? *quit* *reload* *restart*. "ok dumb bitch, That dagger is mine now!"

I'd play it again honestly just to see what I missed.

Harry the Handsome Executive! Nothing says classic like scooting around in a swivel chair fighting evil, malfunctioning office-place robots with a stapler gun.

Also a second on Ares, that game was fun as hell.

Don't know if it's exactly old enough, but Battle Girl was freaking great on OS 9. Might have had a PC release too. I used to play the hell out of it on my G3 with my Firebird joystick. The high hat was perfect as it had a Robotron-ish move with one stick and shoot with the other setup.

Also, on our Mac Plus there was a Pinball making game that I loved. A google turns up Pinball Construction Set, so maybe that was it? It was great. You could lay out the field and then put clip art on the level too, so a bumper could become a skeleton or some such thing. Good times with that one.

I don't think Seventh Guest was strictly Mac-only, but I sure as hell played it on a Mac with pretty much my entire family: mom, dad, uncle and his then-girlfriend (and now my aunt).

That was years and years ago. My mom still quotes the "FEELING... LONELY?" you got when you ended up in a dead end in the maze under the house.

God, such a great game, and the nostalgia--family meetings were more fun when I was younger.

My dad introduced me to several classic games with our old Apple IISE – yes, such a thing exists; I can embed a picture later if you guys want – via Mac OS System 7 and our horizontal PowerMac G3 with Mac OS 9 by delaying the completion of our transition to OS X for quite some time. I remember Sticky Bear, Tank, Kid PIx, Ozzie's Travels, Myst, and Sammie's science House quite fondly. Dad has also gotten quite mad over losing his original floppies for the old, black-and-white version of Crystal Quest; I told him that there is a version for iOS, but he doesn't want his nostalgia to be ruined by color graphics even if they maintain the retro look of the original game. I'm pretty sure that Kid Pix is available for OS X, but what about the others? Are there versions for Mountain Lion, to which my family is in the process of updating?
